Chapter 1034: Bi-monthly Visit

“Lawyer Xu.” Chu Xiaoran looked towards Ning Shu. “You’ve climbed up the ladder faster than anyone I’ve ever seen. You used to just be a small lawyer, but now you’re a government lawyer and even a philanthropist. You’re really quite good at currying favor. You appeared in front of the public with the identity of a philanthropist, but who knows what you’re actually like?”

Ning Shu simply scoffed. Chu Xiaoran was saying that she only got to where she was today by bowing and scraping to curry favor.

“Actually, no one cares what I’m actually like. The people that come to me for help with lawsuits don’t care because I can help them win. Those who need the help of law care even less what I’m actually like, because I can get justice for them and it wouldn’t come at a large cost either,” replied Ning Shu mildly. “I’m doing what I should be doing, so what’s there for me to feel guilty and uneasy about?”

Chu Xiaoran’s pupils dilate. He was just about to speak when there came the distinct sound of glass shattering.

Chu Xiaoran and Ning Shu looked over and found that Xia Xiaoman’s dress was covered with red wine. The wine was slowly spreading on the white dress. In front of Xia Xiaoman was a very attractive woman who was currently apologizing to Xia Xiaoman without much sincerity.

Ning Shu only glanced over briefly before looking away. It was another love affair incident. How meaningless.

Chu Xiaoran walked over and led Xia Xiaoman away to get changed.

When Ning Shu saw this, she felt like Xia Xiaoman was just a giant baby. Whenever she encountered something, she’d be completely bewildered and could only wait for her prince to save her. It was no wonder why she couldn’t leave Chu Xiaoran. She had already become dependent on Chu Xiaoran.

Chu Xiaoran would sometimes be extremely cruel towards her, but then he’d suddenly be gentle and romantic. It made it impossible for Xia Xiaoman to leave him. She used the photos and the videos to conceal her own thoughts and as an excuse for why she couldn’t leave him.

Ning Shu continued to go with the tax inspector to Chu Xiaoran’s company to check the accounts. The inspection was now more serious. It occurred once every two months or so. This situation was pretty abnormal since most of the time, tax inspection only started near the end of the year and no matter how serious the inspection was, it’d only occur every half a year.

When Chu Xiaoran saw Ning Shu, his expression turned very cold. “Lawyer Xu, do you hold something against me to be checking the accounts every two months? How is my company supposed to operate at this rate?”

Ning Shu said with a smile, “Chairman Chu, your company isn’t the only one being inspected. All the other companies are also being inspected. These are directions from the higher ups. They want to look into the issues of tax evasion that have occurred these past couple years.”

Chu Xiaoran pressed his lips together tightly. Ning Shu took a sip of the coffee the secretary brought her and sat down at the side to leisurely wait for the tax inspector.

Chu Xiaoran looked towards Ning Shu and asked, “Lawyer Xu, are you certain about opposing me?”

Haven’t they always been opposing each other?

Ning Shu’s expression was calm. “Chairman Chu, what are you talking about? I don’t understand?”

Chu Xiaoran laughed coldly. “Some things aren’t as simple as you think. Do you really think a small lawyer like you can defeat me?”

Ning Shu laughed. The fact that Chu Xiaoran said something like this showed that he didn’t have much confidence. Rather than saying that he said this to warn her, it was better to say that he was saying this for other people to hear.

There were several parts in the accounts that weren’t clear. Ning Shu immediately pulled out her prepared documents. Chu Xiaoran glanced at Ning Shu coldly, then took out a check and said to the tax inspector coldly, “How much this time?”

Chu Xiaoran was a powerful figure in T City. The tax inspector was frightened by Chu Xiaoran’s dark look and trembled. If Chu Xiaoran wanted to look into his background, he’d definitely suffer the consequences.

Ning Shu took over the conversation. “Three times the amount. A penalty of three times the amount of the questionable profits.”

Chu Xiaoran’s pupils dilated and he pressed his lips together hard. Finally, he quickly wrote the sum on the check. He had pressed on the pen so hard that some places ripped.

Ning Shu calmly put the check away, then pulled out another set of documents. “Chairman Chu, these are the suggestion documents for the price of goods. The prices of some of your company’s products need to be adjusted.”
