Chapter 48: Elite Assault
Butcher Demon
âHelp! Please help me! anyone help!!â
It was midnight.
Abigail ran into the gate of the Echo Team facility, screaming loudly.
We were in the middle of a forest on a mountainside.
It was a natural cave facility, similar to my base.
The entrance was small and difficult to detect given its size, but there was a radio tower-like structure nearby, which gave the place a very poor camouflage. The camouflage was so poor that it looked out of place from a distance. We recognized it immediately.
Even if we hadnât attacked, I think the aliens would have found and destroyed the place in no time.
The whole place was small in scale. Perhaps this is a facility for observing alien movements from the front lines, and a secret communication relay station. If thatâs the case, they should have all sorts of research equipment, including observation equipment.
Weâre going to take control of this cave base and take the equipment inside.
First, Abigail should be able to infiltrate the cave by herself, as if she had escaped from an alien facility. She herself came up with the idea.
At the entrance of the facility, Abigail talks to a soldier, and in her hand is my control terminal.
Itâs a valuable Butcher control terminal. If she could show it off as a souvenir, it would be easy to open the gates of this facility, which is desperate for information about the aliens. This was her idea, too.
She had no hesitation in coming up with one raid idea after another. As I was remembering Abigailâs reliable appearance, the door of the facility opened.
âIt really did open.
I became a little afraid of Abigail.
Isnât she actually a very good manipulator?
I wondered if I would ever be able to maintain such a sophisticated relationship with her, using her and being used by her. The next thing I know, Iâm lying in Abigailâs hands. Thatâs possible. I have to be careful.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
I was thinking about this as I watched her back as she was invited inside.
We should just go in head-on and kill them all. My grandiose plan to attack them was lightly rejected. The reason, she said, was that there was a fear that the facility would self-destruct the moment they deemed it indefensible. That makes sense.
So I waited.
It must have been about thirty minutes later.
âAll set. Two guards outside. Two guards at the gate. Commencing attack.
Abigailâs call came in.
The control terminal had been modified by Abigailâs hand so that she could handle it. It was a quick job, only an hour.
Abigail checked the inside of the facility and talked about her background as a former AASPINT to get into the controls unit. There was supposed to be an intelligence officer working there, so if she used the AASPINT code word, they would trust her even if she used a false name.
Then, at the right moment, sheâll try to operate my control terminal that she brought with her as a souvenir.
She would give instructions to me remotely in the form of explaining how to use it.
However, the Echo team, who donât understand how it works, canât make sense of her actions. It would never occur to them that she was really sending a message to the Butcher. Abigail would not be suspicious. It was her idea, too.
Everything about Abigailâs plan just fell into place. I wonder whatâs inside her head.
Iâm getting more and more scared of her.
âYes. Iâm afraid of Abigail now.
In fact, Iâm in a kind of desperate position right now.
Now, if Abigail activates the self-destruct mechanism in the control terminal, Iâm going to have a brain burn. Sheâs in a position to return to the human side, although Iâm not sure if she can remove the device from her neck.
But she said she didnât know how to make me self-destruct. She said the device itself only has the ability to send a message.
âI wonder if thatâs true.
Isnât it possible that she knows how to blow me up and is planning to kill me and escape?
However, thereâs no way I can win a game of deception against a spy. As soon as I allowed her to analyze the device, I had lost control of the situation.
She wasnât lying, and she didnât know how to blow me up. As we discussed, she hates and doesnât trust the Intelligence division, so her first priority is to save me and escape with me. She said she wanted to help me. She meant what she said. She is true to her word.
For now, I have no choice but to cling to the story that is so convenient for her.
Just as Abigail had once bet on my humanity, I was now in a position where I had no choice but to bet on her benevolence.
As a result, Iâm not dead yet.
It seems Iâve won the bet.
Abigail didnât betray me.
Letâs get started.
The Butcherâs huge body sprinted noiselessly through the dark night.
My claws chopped off the heads of two guards who were loitering near the communications tower as they passed each other. A small sound of water only scattered in the darkness of the forest.
I swung my butcher knife and swung full force at the communications tower. The tower snapped with a rattling sound.
Without pausing, I ran headlong into the entrance of the facility.
The two guards, who were not expecting the enemy to come charging in from the front, were cut down with a single swipe from the butcher knife, wiping out all the soldiers outside. The rest of the enemies were all pushed inside the facility.
The facility was designed for secrecy. There were no alarm bells going off, but I could hear the buzzing coming from inside the facility. The sound and vibration of the collapsing towers must have alerted them to my attack.
âGround floor, five people. Underground first floor, four. Iâm on the underground first floor. Commence attack.
Roger that, Roger.
I ran forward and struck it with my shoulder. Smashing through the door.
â!?â
âWhy the hell is Butcher here!!!â
There were already three men inside with guns at the ready. When they saw my appearance, their faces twisted in fear at the same time. I bet they didnât think that the attackerâs identity was the Butcher.
I crushed the head of the man on my left side, and at the same time, I used a knife to split the man in front of me.
I saw the one on my right trying to escape into the inner room, but when I threw the body of the man I was holding onto, he got caught up and blew up with it, leaving a dull *crack* sound. His neck was bent in the wrong direction, so he must be dead.
There are only two leftâ¦â¦.
I looked around the first floor, dragging the knife with me.
âDamn it!!!!!â
I found one of them. He boldly fired his assault rifle at me, but I didnât care, I swung out my butcher knife and turned it to a wall stain. Even though shooting at the apron made absolutely no sense. New recruits, maybe?
I wandered around the gory first-floor area looking for the last one.
A man appeared from the corner of the hallway. Heâs carrying a huge gun with a sparking crackling barrel â a large-caliber laser rifle.
ââDie, you bastard!!â
I used my butcher knife as a shield, and the man pulled the trigger at the same time.
The laser reflected off the knife burned the walls of the facility.
Adjusting the angle, I aim the reflection of the laser at the man.
âYouâre shitting meâ¦â¦.!?â
The reflected laser burned the manâs hair. At that moment, the man stopped the laser beam for fear that he would be burned. I didnât miss the opportunity.
I held up my butcher knife and rushed forward, repelling the man head-on with my body.
âPah!â
The man was slammed into the wall with such force as if he had been run over by a truck, and collapsed into a slump, unable to move. Just to be sure, I crushed his head with my foot.
Part of the blade, which had been reflecting a high-powered laser, had turned a reddish-copper-gold color from the high heat. If I looked, I could see a streak of red on the wall as well.
That was a close one. I would have been badly burned if I had been hit by that thing at close range. Lasers are a threat when they are brought out in narrow passages.
The first floor above ground is now under control.
Now the entrance to the basement.
I didnât need to look for it, there was a staircase to the basement in the back.
However, the door at the bottom of the stairs was tightly closed. It was a heavy metal door.
I donât think Iâll be able to smash through it with my arms.
Anyway, I try to kick the door with a yakuza kick.
The entire facility shook with a loud boom. But the door didnât budge. It is quite sturdy.
Wellâ¦â¦.
Abigail had already anticipated this situation. I kicked the door as a signal.
The truth is, a door like this can be easily destroyed using my power, but I donât want to use that ability recklessly. I didnât want my ability to be recorded on the human side by any chance. This is an information-gathering base. You never know where they might look for records.
So I quietly waited for Abigail.
Not long after, the door opened from the other side. An angry voice leaked out from inside.
âYou idiot! What the hell are you doing?
The manâs voice was interrupted by a dull popping sound.
Almost immediately, I entered the basement.
What I saw was Abigail holding a man hostage with a gun to his head. The man has his arms up in the air.
On the other side, there were two men holding guns to her head. That was the situation in the room. In addition, there was one man lying on the floor with blood pouring from his head.
âWha-!? Butcher!!!!â
One by one, I squeezed their heads and walked up to Abigail.
Abigail, seeing this, also shot the man she was holding hostage in the side of the head.
Abigail and I were the only ones left in the basement.
We were now under control.
It probably took less than twenty minutes in total since I had started to move. This was a perfect, one-sided operation.
â¦â¦Hey, Abigail, arenât you too good?
Are you really work in the rear area? Youâre as good as a Special Forces officer.
Even if I were on active duty, Iâm not sure I could have subdued them so brilliantly.
So this is what an elite spy looks likeâ¦..
You could be a Bond girl. Lovely. Iâd like to play a trapped female spy right now, imprison and humiliate her until she spills her secrets. Right here in this very room.
When Iâm done, Iâd like to be your Mr. Bond who came to rescue the captive Bond girl and hold her all night long without getting bored, trophy-wise. In short, I want to turn that gallant face into a stupid face.
âI didnât expect it to go so wellâ¦â¦. before your handiwork, Echo was bewildered and the controls unit was confused. It was easy, thanks to you.â
Abigail put her hand on my chest and looked up at me.
âYouâre a professional, Gevaudan.â
So are you.
