“Reuben witnessed something he shouldn’t have. Benjamin mentioned that Lia’s path won’t be easy,”

Evan said.

Caroline sighed. “I don’t know exactly how tough it’ll be, but Benjamin’s words make me think Lia’s future won’t be a smooth one.”

Evan didn’t add more, but he did share with Caroline what Benjamin had mentioned about Lia’s frequent fever and her third eye opening.

Caroline felt conflicted after hearing that. She remained silent for a moment before exhaling deeply. “All we can do now is support Lia.”

“Hmm, you’re back?” Evan changed the subject.

“Yes. Kenny picked me up, and he’s taking me to dinner.”

“Make sure the food is safe,” Evan cautioned.

Caroline immediately thought of Zeke when she heard that.

She replied, “To be honest, barbecue isn’t necessarily unhygienic, just heavily seasoned. You might want to give it a try.”

Evan furrowed his brow. “I remember you rarely eat things like that. Why the sudden change?”

“People’s tastes can change,” she said.

After a short conversation with Evan, Caroline hung up. Something struck her as she was putting her phone back in her bag.

She turned to Kenny and said, “I thought you said you wouldn’t drive again?”

Kenny looked helpless. “Do you think I’d drive if it weren’t for you? Look, I’m driving really slowly now.”

Caroline checked the speed, and it was only 40 kilometers per hour. She suggested, “Get out of the car. I’ll drive. At this speed, who knows when we’ll get home?”

The next morning, just as Caroline was about to leave for work, she received a call from Paige.

As soon as Caroline picked up the call, Paige said, “Carol, can you spend some time with me this morning Noticing Paige’s tone, Caroline asked anxiously, “What happened? You sound upset.”

“I’ll talk to you when you come to pick me up.” Paige replied.

Caroline agreed, “Alright, I’m on my way.”

Caroline arrived at Paige’s residential area twenty minutes later.

Paige got into the car, closed the door, and hugged Caroline’s arm. “I’m not feeling well, Carol,”

“Is it about the baby?” Caroline asked, concerned.

Paige sighed and sat up. “No, it’s not that. Alex had a heated argument with his mother over the phone this morning.”

Caroline asked, “Is it because of you?”

“Yeah, it is. But Alex didn’t mention my pregnancy. He told me not to worry or overthink before he left.”

“Why are you worrying then?”

“Of course I’m worried! I’m worried that Alex won’t be able to effectively argue with his mother.”

“Are you not concerned that his mother might not accept your situation?”

“Nope. I’m spending my life with Alex, not his parents!” Paige declared.

They continued their conversation until they reached the hospital.

Caroline and Paige were on their way to the clinic when they encountered Daniella in a wheelchair, with two bodyguards following her.

They were shocked to see her worn–out face.

Daniella looked at them in disbelief but quickly averted her gaze.

Paige gasped. “Oh my God! Is that Daniella, Carol?”

Upon hearing that, Daniella turned, glared at Paige, and snapped, “What’s it to you? None of your business!
