Sir Your Wife Already Signed the Divorce Paper
Chapter 14: Family mansion
The maids warmly welcomed them as soon as they arrived at the splendid mansion. âThe old lady is busy in the kitchen. Please sit down first.â
After greeting them, some of the maids went to bring them juice and water to drink. Some also brought fruit trays.
The old lady of the Marshall Family came from an ordinary family. Even if she had enjoyed half at lifetime of happiness, she liked to take care of children, cook, and sometimes even weave a scarf for the younger generation of their bloodline, just like the older adults in typical families.
Even among the younger generation of the Marshall Family, they all showed great respect for
Grandma.
âWhereâs our Grandpa? mogen asked as she changed her shoes.
The maid pointed upstairs and answered, âHe is resting. His mental state has been getting worse lately.â
Imogen and Troy were alarmed by what they heard, and worry was plastered on their faces. For the past years, Troyâs grandfather was busy with their businesses, passed down by the previous generation of the Marshall Family. He was so busy with their empires that, at some point,
he forgot to take care of his health, and it was taking a toll now that he was old. Recently, he had a liver transplant and has been taking medication.
âWhat did his doctor say?â Asked Troy.
Grandpaâs doctor was one of the best doctors at the prominent hospital in New York City, and he was also his doctor.
âHe said that he will do his best, Sir.â
Troy nodded solemnly.
Meanwhile, Imogen went to the kitchen to help the Grandma of the Marshall Family.
âMy dear, you should just rest. You donât have to help me. I can handle everything myself.â The old lady was trying to send Imogen out when she tried to help.
âGrandma, I canât just let you handle everything here alone. I wanna help you,â she told her, smiling.
The old lady gave her a disapproving glance. âAre you sure? You can sit in the living room with and talk to your husband.â
Seeing Imogenâs silence, the old lady asked, âDid you argue with Troy? I have also seen the news. Donât worry; I will help you teach him a lesson.â
âGrandma, you donât have to worry about me. We will handle the matter between us just fine.â âIâm aware of everything, dear. I know that Troy is such a jerk sometimes. I know him too well but donât worry, for me, you are the only daughterâinâlaw of this family. If he wants a divorce, he must go through me first.â
The old lady seemed so determined when she said those words. All that Imogen could do was stay silent; she didnât even dare to defend Troy.
Since he wanted a divorce, she would rather let him be the one to explain to them so they would understand.
Imogen was done with selfâsabotage, so she would not help him, but she would also not act as a

hindrance and manipulate the old lady to stand with her.
When it was time to eat, the maids went upstairs and helped the older man down. When they were near the dining area, Troy gave him a hand.
On the other side, Imogen helped the old lady bring dishes individually to the table.
âGrandmaâs cooking skill is as good as ever,â Troy said amidst their meal.
However, instead of agreeing with his sentiment, his grandmother glanced at Imogen before scolding him, âPraise your wife, Troy. She made all these dishes with me. Youâre losing sight of her efforts.â
What he heard made him pause momentarily. He sighed and did what was said. âHer cooking skill is also good.â
âPerfunctory,â the Grandma of the Marshall family roast.
All that Troy could reply to that was silence. He knew that the old lady was particularly unhappy with him today due to the recent issues.
Sitting down around the dining table, Grandpa Marshallâs turned to speak. He cleared his throat before looking at them.
âTroy, I heard that the girl from the Page family has returned to New York recently.â
Troy nodded and answered, âShe just returned recently.â
âI watched the news about the two of you this morning. I know you have a history with that girl, but remember you already married Imogen. So donât get too close to that girl. Otherwise, what will your wife will think? I even heard that you are cooperating with her to the point that you asked your wife to come in contact with that woman.â
Troy put down his chopsticks and looked at the old man earnestly, âGrandpa, I plan toâ¦â
Before he could finish what he wanted to say, they saw how the older man coughed continuously, interrupting his words.
âYou know that Imogenâs father saved my life before, right? Thatâs why I promised that Iâd treat her as family. When I asked the two of you to get married, you, my grandson, agreed. I know youâre mature and responsible enough, and I know youâre true to your words. Donât let me down, son. Donât let me regret bringing you back.â
The air was filled with silence right after those words were spilled.
Grandpa spoke heavy words so that Troy clearly couldnât refute him. His silence was a silent resistance, a silent persistence.
At that moment, the atmosphere became oddly solemn and heavy simultaneously,
