Chapter Five.
Alpha's Awaited Mate *Re-uploaded*
Leon
"Leon!"
A voice shouted and before I could even see who it was, a body jumped over the table, tackling me. But luckily, I was sitting on my chair so in the end, the force only pushed the chair back. Small arms wrapped themselves tightly around my neck.
I looked down at my small attacker, only to see a head of familiar strawberry blonde hair.
"Bella. Shouldn't you be in school?" I asked with a chuckle and she pulled back, her small lips in a pout but then it turned into a smile.
"I con- conv-"
"Convinced?" I supplied and she nodded eagerly. I chuckled and pinched her cheek. "Sneaky girl. Is there a reason why you did that?" I asked and she nodded eagerly again.
"I want to learn everything!" She said and I couldn't help but laugh.
"Everything?" I asked and she nodded. "Everything." She repeated. I smiled mischievously and opened my mouth but then a voice stopped me.
"If you're going to tell her what I think you are, please don't." My mate suddenly called and I chuckled, looking at her over Bella's head.
"She said she wants to know everything." I said with a chuckle and Jennifer gave me a look.
"I hardly doubt your 'everything' and her 'everything' is the same." She retorted and I chuckled.
"Sorry. I was just messing with her." I said and Jennifer gave out a reluctant chuckle. Today, she was wearing something similar to what she had worn in the day of the interview, but today, her shirt was white instead of the pink. I couldn't help but admire how beautiful my mate looked in working attire. Her clothes weren't figure hugging, yet they were modest enough to show the slightest hint of her curves.
"Leon, tell me!" Bella whined, snapping me out of my admiration. That's when I noticed that my mate was blushing brightly, looking away. My cheeks burned when I realised I wasn't being subtle in my admiration. Bella tugged on my suit jacket and I looked down at her. Before I could say anything, Jennifer cleared her throat.
"Um, I'm going to get to work. I hope you don't mind Bella. She's very demanding when she wants to be... Just give me a call if she becomes a trouble." Jennifer said before exiting the office and I looked down at her daughter. I picked her up and placed her on the table so that she was sitting on the desk instead of standing on my lap.
"What do you want to know, Bella?" I asked and she smiled brightly, knowing she won.
"How can we do this? Turn into wolves?" She asked and I sighed, knowing by the time she's done questioning me, I might as well be an old man in his late eighties.
"You see, Bella, many, many years ago, there was a Royal family. They were humans like your mom. In their era- time." I corrected myself for her to understand properly. "Werewolves didn't exist. It was only a story for them." I said but Bella interrupted me, frowning.
"Is this one of the stories where one man wants all the power?" She asked. I looked at her surprised but then shook my head with a laugh. "No. It-"
"What is it about then?" She asked and I gave her a look.
"Do you want to listen to the story?" I asked and she smiled sheepishly at me. "Sorry." She said and I chuckled.
"The prince of the Royal family, he was fascinated by the whole story of werewolves, vampires and even witches. So one day, he went out in the forest, where he wasn't supposed to go in because it was a very dangerous place. The next morning, the guards of the palace found him dead." I and Bella gasped.
"It was a shock for everyone. He was only sixteen. And do you know what happened?" I asked, increasing the suspense and Bella's eyes widened even more.
"What?" She asked and I internally chuckled at her shocked expression.
"On the day of his funeral, a shout came from the coffin he was resting in. When everybody opened the coffin, they found that the prince was alive. But there was a change in him. His eyes had darkened and when the coffin had opened, he shifted into a wolf and ran out of the funeral. That was the time werewolves were born." I finished and Bella looked at me expectantly. When she realised I was done with my story, she gave me a pout.
"That's it?" She asked and I nodded with a chuckle.
"It's the oldest history recorded. No one knew where the prince disappeared to after that. Or how was he able to turn into a werewolf. That has still remained a mystery." I said and she pouted even more, but with a thinking face.
"But wouldn't it be a werewolf that bit him?" She asked and I nodded.
"It might. But like I said, no one knows who, or what, turned the prince into a werewolf. No one was there to witness it or record it." I said and she nodded with a disappointed look. "Aw, it's alright, Bella." I said and tickled her stomach. She giggled and pushed my hand away.
"How did you know about me?" She asked and I smiled.
"Your scent. It seemed strange for a human." I said and she gave me a confused look. I chuckled.
"Smell me." I said and she did as I instructed, leaning forward as she did.
"What do I smell like to you?" I asked and she frowned.
"I don't know the smell..." She trailed off and I chuckled.
"It's alright, Bella. Once you grow up and learn about the smells, you'll know. But this smell is my scent. Your mother smells like jasmine, no?" I asked and she nodded. "That's your mother scent. Just like yours is lilac." I said and she grinned.
"I like lilacs." She said and I chuckled. "Do you have an Alpha? Mom read me stories where werewolves have Alpha's." Bella said and I nodded hesitantly.
"Packs have Alpha's. Packs are where people like us live together. But yes, my pack has an Alpha." I said and she looked at me, her eyes shining.
"Can I meet him!?" She asked eagerly and I chuckled.
"Keep a secret, will you?" I asked and she nodded. "I am the Alpha." I whispered and her eyes gleamed.
"That is so cool! Do you have any powers!? Can you do whatever you want!? Do you get away with everything!?" She asked rapidly and I chuckled.
"I don't have any powers. Only mind-link. That's the way I talked with you when we were both wolves. I can do whatever I want, but I have to be careful because I'm responsible for everyone. And as for the last question, sometimes, unless my mother catches me." I said and her eyes widened.
"Can I be the Alpha instead? Mommy doesn't let me play much as a wolf. It's only before bedtime that I can." She said and I couldn't help but laugh.
"Oh, Bella. I didn't become an Alpha just like that. I had to work hard for it. My dad gave the Alpha title to me. Think of it like a king gives the throne to his son to be the next king. And your mother just wants to protect you. People don't like things that are unique, but when I take you to meet the pack, you can be a wolf whenever you want to be. Because you're a really special little wolf, princess." I said, the nickname coming out of my mouth easily. Bella smiled brightly but then blushed.
"Does that mean you'll my prince?" She asked and I chuckled.
"If you want me to be." I said and she smiled brightly. She leaned forward and hugged me around my neck.
"You're better than my daddy. Thank you, Leon." She said and I felt myself getting sad for her. A daughter needs her dad. And poor, Bella, she doesn't even know how he looks like. Much less his name.
That's when I promised myself. I'll be the dad Bella needs. She'll want for nothing as long as I'm alive. I'll take care of her every need. Beat up anyone who breaks her heart. Kill those who threaten her. I may be an overprotective father at times, but I won't care. I'll take care of her with all my heart and soul. Just like I'll take care of her mother. I wrapped my arms around Bella's small waist.
"You're welcome, princess."
