This can't be... How is this possible? My wolf asked in a whisper, both of us frozen like a statue.
It was impossible for a werewolf to shift into their wolf before they turned sixteen. But Bella, she was a living evidence of a miracle. I took a step back, but I didn't see where. The sound of a twig breaking came, alerting the two in the embrace. Bella's head snapped towards where I was. Her eyes shone deep violet, making it evident that her wolf had taken over.
Amazing... I breathed out.
She growled. Moving away from her mother, she shifted into her small wolf. Crouching in a warning position. Warning me not to come near.
"Bella, sweetheart, what's wrong?" Jennifer asked as Bella growled again.
As an Alpha, it could've been taken like a challenge. The way she was threatening me. But this was Bella, my mate's daughter. Who was also trying to protect her, sensing me as a threat.
With a sigh, I stepped out of my hidden spot.
Calm down, pup. I said just as my mate gaped at me. I was a large werewolf. Perks of being an Alpha.
Bella stopped growling, tilting her head at me in confusion instead.
I'm not going to harm you or your mother. I said softly to reassure her and she slowly walked over to me. Jennifer hadn't said a word the whole time. She just stared at me in shock.
Are... Are you like me? Bella asked as she stood in front of me.
I am. Very much. I said in return. Bending down, I licked her on the head before using my paw to pat it. She grinned up at me and then started bouncing excitedly.
I thought I was the only one who could do this. Bella said and I chuckled.
You aren't. And neither am I. There are so many of us. I said, making Bella yap again. She started running around, yapping happily as she did. My wolf chuckled at her excited-ness. She ran over to my mate and shifted back into herself on her lap.
"Mommy, he's just like me!" She said excitedly and my mate's head snapped towards me.
"What do you mean? He can become a human like you?" My mate asked and Bella nodded excitedly. Jennifer swallowed and looked at me.
"Can you... show me who you are?" Jennifer asked but I hesitated.
Tell your mom I don't want to scare her off. I told Bella and she frowned, but nonetheless gave her mom my message. Jennifer looked at me confused.
"I assure you, after finding out about your kind through my daughter, there's not much that can scare me." She said and I chuckled.
Brave mate.
You'll be scared of my identity. I told Bella and she being the excited pup, gave her mom my message, stumbling at 'identity' which made me chuckle at her cuteness. Jennifer just gave me an expectant look.
It's too soon. Don't do it. My wolf said and I sighed.
You do realise now that Bella knows that there are more of us, she'll keep sniffing for us? I asked and my wolf hesitated for a second but then nodded in defeat.
I do. But... He trailed off and I sighed. Nodding at the two girls, I went back towards the forest.
"Hey, come back!" Bella called but I didn't acknowledge it. Only whipped my tail. Hidden behind a thick tree, my bones cracked as I shifted into my human self. Thankfully, our clothes stayed on when we shifted back into a human. Taking a deep breath, I walked out from behind the tree.
As the shadows of the trees were left behind, the moonlight shone on me, making both the girls gasp.
"Leon!?" They both exclaimed and I nodded.
"Jennifer. Bella." I said and then Bella ran towards me. To my surprise, she hugged my leg.
"Oh my! This is so cool! Can you teach me everything you know!?" She asked excitedly and I chuckled, resting my hand on her head.
"Patience, Bella." I said and looked up at my mate. "It's alright. I'm not going to hurt you." I said but she shook her head.
"What are you doing here?" She asked instead and I looked down at Bella.
"I'm here because of her." I said and a panicked look came in Jennifer's eyes. I shook my head. "I'm not here to take her away. She's special. Really special." I said and Jennifer's eyes relaxed.
"How?" She asked and I smiled, ruffling Bella's head.
"A normal werewolf can't shift into its wolf until their sixteenth birthday. At what age did she turn?" I asked and Jennifer hesitated.
"Three." She replied and my eyes widened.
"Amazing." I breathed out, looking at the small girl who hadn't let go of my leg.
"Bella, come on, it's time for bed." Jennifer said and have a look when Bella tried to protest.
"It's alright. I'll see you tomorrow." I said and Bella nodded before running back inside the house, leaving me and Jennifer alone. I stepped towards her hesitantly. "I hope you won't quit because of this." I said and Jennifer sighed, shaking her head.
"I couldn't even if I wanted to... What will happen to her now?" She asked and I frowned.
"Nothing. She's just a pup- I mean, child." I said correcting myself. Jennifer gave me a look but then shook her head with a chuckle.
"Pup. What is this? Typical werewolf stuff? Territories, Alpha's, beta's, mate's?" She asked and I cleared my throat, rubbing the back of my neck.
"Yeah..." I said and she looked at me astonished.
"You mean... Oh god! They'll take my baby away." She said frantically, her hand went up in her hair as she started pacing, muttering the last sentence again and again. I ran over to her and took hold of her arms, ignoring how my skin heated up and tingled when my skin touched hers. Even though she was wearing a sweater, it felt like I'm touching her skin.
"No one is going to take Bella away from you. No one will dare do that. Calm down, Jennifer." I said, running my hands on her arms to reassure her. She slowly nodded, looking down and took a deep breath.
"Excuse me. I need to check up on her." She said and escaped from my hold before quickly walking inside the house.
Follow her. My wolf said and I did as he instructed. It was homey. Pictures of Bella and Jennifer were hung on a wall. A small TV and a small couch were also there. A fireplace that kept the cold air of late November warm inside the house.
I followed my mate's scent towards one of the rooms. She was there, sitting on the bed where Bella was already asleep. Jennifer was running her hand over her head in a calming motion.
"Who is her father?" I asked. Jennifer didn't move as I startled her, just kept running her hand on Bella's head.
"I don't know." She whispered, making me freeze.
"Sorry?" I asked dumbfounded at her reply. She sighed and took a deep breath.
"I don't know who her father is. When I was eighteen, I was going back home from the library and this hand grabbed me out of nowhere..." She trailed off and I felt like someone threw an ice bucket at me. The hair on the back of my neck raised themselves and a low growl escaped my lips. Thankfully, it was low enough for her to not hear.
"Bella was the result of that night." She said and my wolf growled, but a feeling of understanding came from him as well.
That's why she smells pure despite having a daughter. He said and I nodded my head in acknowledgement.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have prodded like that." I said and she gave me a small smile.
"It's alright. Something's telling me you're a man I can truly trust." She said and a sense of extreme happiness rise within me.
She trusts me. Trusts us. Even though we just met yesterday. I said to my wolf who was grinning madly.
It's time. Time, we tell them all their Luna is here.
