Chapter 1

Chapter One.

Alpha's Awaited Mate *Re-uploaded*

Leon

It's hard.

Hard to be an Alpha's son. Hard to be an Alpha. Hard to be one of the most successful businessmen and an Alpha of the world's largest pack at the same time.

Everything is hard without a mate.

I'm twenty-six and still mateless. All my friends have found their mate's. My beta, my second in command and my best friend, Andrew, didn't have to wait long. He found his mate a day after he shifted into his wolf at sixteen. Unfortunately, his mate was my sister.

It was gross watching them being all lovey-dovey in front of me. They didn't care if they were in public either. When they were together, it was just them in their own bubble. But it's also been ten years since then and now, everyone in the pack house has gotten used to their... romantic antics.

Ever since I took over the Alpha position from my dad, I've worked my butt off to bring the pack, and the business empire, to the glory it has now. Since I took over, I've worked for more than twenty hours a day, both for the pack and the business. Expanding the territory for the pack as well as the business empire in more than five countries after my dad started it, it has been a tough time. And without a mate, it's been even tougher.

There were so many days I'd return home exhausted, and the only thing I'd want is for have someone with me, someone who could share my burdens, someone I could talk to about everything going on, in the pack and in the business. But life hasn't been so giving.

You've got work to do. My wolf said suddenly, breaking me out of my thoughts. I sighed.

Work seems more like a burden these days. I replied and my wolf scoffed.

If you would only take it easy. You're making all this a burden on your own self. Our mate would've made you see, and helped you through this. My wolf said and I grew angry.

Well, she's not here! I snapped at my wolf. He knew for me; our mate was a sensitive topic. We had longed, searched far and wide for her, but yet, she wasn't found. We had visited almost every country in search for her. Attending parties in the wolf and human world, had almost every packs girl brought in front, or near me to see if they were my mate. But the result was always negative.

Leon, she'll come to us. We've searched and searched, used all our resources to find her. She'll come to us, Leon. And soon. I can feel it. My wolf said, trying to cheer me up but I sighed and went towards my desk.

I was in my business office currently. I was hiring a PA for myself. My old one turned out to be the usual girls. She was a she-wolf from the neighbouring pack. At first, all was alright. We had a proper employer-employee relationship until she tried to seduce me.

That was one thing I never tolerated.

I hated when she-wolves did that. Forcing themselves to be my mate for power. I knew, and still know what's it like to be without a mate. I couldn't let other wolves go through what I do on a daily basis.

A knock came on the door and I sighed.

"Come in." I called. When the door started opening, my wolf went crazy. He kept howling, jumping around in glee and excitement. It left me confused.

That's when the smell of jasmine hit me.

I took a deep breath, my nostrils filled with even more jasmine. Then the scent of honeysuckle came as the door opened even more, however the person behind still wasn't revealed. The sleeve of a navy-blue jacket appeared. As the door opened even more, a baby pink collar appeared over the blue jackets collar. Ivory skin that looked like the softest thing in earth, pink full lips that seemed like they were just dying to be kissed, a straight nose. That's when my blue eyes met her violet ones.

Mate! She's our mate! I told you she'll come to us! My wolf shouted in excitement and I felt my eyes widen. My eyes, and ears not believing what I see or just heard. She had an oval face; her hair was strawberry blonde. It was a shade that made me think for a second that it was dyed, but when I paid more attention to its roots, I could see that they were indeed natural. They fell over her back, but were cut short from the front so that they cupped her face. Much like I wanted to.

"May I come in, sir?" Her voice felt like silk. It was so soft, sweet sounding, I could've given her my Alpha title if she asked me to right there and then. I snapped out of my thoughts and nodded.

"Please, come in." I said. As she walked in further, another smell came. I frowned, sniffing slightly and caught the faint smell of baby powder.

She must have been babysitting. My wolf said to assure us but I shrugged it off, focusing on my mate instead.

"How have you been, mate?" I asked, 'mate' coming out of my mouth instead of 'miss'. Her eyes widened slightly but then she frowned.

"Sorry?" Her sweet voice asked.

She's human. My wolf breathed out in shock, and awe. Awe, because the Moon Goddess thought that she, a human, was capable of taking care of me. An Alpha. And his large pack where even the strongest of she-wolves failed.

"Sorry, I meant to say 'miss'. Forgive me today. My heads not in work. Take a seat, please." I said and to my surprise, she giggled but quickly covered her mouth. I raised an eyebrow at her confused.

"Something amusing?" I asked as she took her seat.

"Sorry about that. I thought I was the only one feeling like that today." She said. That's when I saw a folder in her hands. She saw me gaze at it and with a small 'Oh!', she passed the folder to me. "It's my CV." She said and I nodded, taking it from her. Our fingers brushed against each other during the exchange, causing her to give out a small gasp as heat came from where our fingers touched.

She's not immune to the bond. I noted and felt my wolf nod in agreement.

I asked her random questions about business while I went through her CV. My mate was smart, I'll give her that. Graduated freshly from an Ivy League college, she had gotten a job instantly after graduating. She replied to my questions with thought and intellect. When I asked her a question in riddles, she'd know what the correct answer is and give it to me within a minute. I counted the longest it took her.

"So, Ms. Jenkins, or do you prefer Jennifer?" I asked my mate after reading her name on the CV. Her name rolled off my tongue as if I was singing the most beautiful song. Even if I can't sing to save my life.

"Jennifer, please." She said and I nodded with a smile.

"Jennifer, you've really impressed me. More than my previous PAs." I said and she blushed. She blushed.

Who blushes these days? My wolf asked in surprise that we both felt.

Our mate, apparently. She truly is something. I said and my wolf growled in pride.

She is. And all ours. He said and I grinned like a mad wolf at that.

"Mr. Wolf?" My mate called, snapping me out of my conversation with my wolf. I cleared my throat.

"Sorry. As I was saying, I'd really like you have you-" Up against that wall. My wolf growled but I ignored him and continued. "In my company. Congratulations, Jennifer. You can start work tomorrow." I said and my mate light up. Her eyes shone the deepest violet possible, her full lips spread wide in a smile.

"Thank you so much, Mr. Wolf! I rea-"

"Leon." I said interrupting her. She looked at me confused and I gave her a smile. "Call me Leon." I said and she nodded slowly. She cleared her throat, looking a little hesitantly at me.

"Mr. Wo- Leon, I... If you don't mind, can I have a longer lunch break? I mean, it's not like it takes me time to eat, but I need to go pick my daughter from school." She said. I froze as soon as she said 'my daughter'.

She's already mated. I breathed out in disbelief, but I felt confusion come from my wolf.

She's not. I would've smelt it. We would have felt that the moment she stepped in. She's not married either. There's no ring on her finger. She smells pure... But not completely. My wolf said and I nodded, knowing it was a topic better to be left alone until later.

"Will you be bringing her here after that?" I asked and she hesitated.

"My previous boss didn't like kids. So, I'm used to dropping her off at our neighbors before coming back to work. I could do the same now if you wish." She said and I sighed.

Bring her. She's a part of our mate. And if our mate accepts us, she'll be our daughter as well. I'd like to meet her. My wolf said. Sometimes, he was too wise for his own good.

"No, it's alright. I love kids and would love to meet yours. Bring her in tomorrow." I said and my mate nodded, a slight relief present in her eyes.

"Thank you. I really hate leaving Bella alone." She said and I smiled brightly inside.

She has the traits of a mother. A perfect Luna. I said to my wolf who beamed with pride. But then I frowned.

"And her father?" I asked and knew I hit a sensitive topic as soon as her eyes flashed hurt and pain. She looked down.

"He's not in the picture. Never has and never will be."
