Chapter 18
Bride Behind The Mask
2 Marguerite had a pretty chill first day at work, basically did nothing. Just as she was about to clock out, Robert popped up behind her. She was so startled when she turned around and saw him, blurting out, âMr. Fitzgeraldâ¦â
Robert just grinned, âReady to head out? Come with me, Iâll show you where youâll be staying.â
She was surprised he remembered his promise. She thought sheâd be spending the night in the hospital corridor again. She had nothing to carry, so she followed Robert emptyâhanded to his car in the parking lot.
The ride was fast and silent. Marguerite didnât ask where she was going. Even though sheâd just met Robert, she felt he was more reliable and friendly than Frederick. So she trusted him.
But Robert totally let her down.
Because when they reached their destination and Robertâs car pulled into Sapphire Valley Estates and stopped in front of Frederickâs mansion, Marguerite was gobsmacked. This was Frederickâs crib! Why did he bring her here?
Marguerite looked at him dumbfounded, incredulously asking, âMr. Fitzgerald, youâre not telling me Iâm staying at Frederickâs place, are you?â
Robert raised an eyebrow, âYou knew this was hisâplace? Youâve been here before, huh. Howâs the bed?â
Margueriteâs face turned beet red, totally mortified.
Robert just smiled, turned off the engine, got out of the car, and gentlemanly opened the door for Marguerite, helping her out.
âMarguerite, now that Frederickâs not around, thereâs something I need to tell you. Heâs a toughâtalking softie, so be patient with him.
Marguerite felt even more awkward, âIâm not his girlfriend, and you should be telling this to his girlfriend.â
Robert didnât argue with Marguerite. He just nudged her, âMarguerite, just chill out. Youâre Frederickâs antidote and your presence is important to him. Thatâs why I want you to stay here: I hope you two can get along.â
What the heck was he talking about? Marguerite was lost.
Being with Frederick was like a disaster. Antidote? Important?
She was resisting and wanted to argue. But Robert was already back in his car, smiling at her through the window, and then he drove off.
His car zoomed off, leaving Marguerite in a cloud of gas emission. She was coughing uncontrollably, still in shock, when Frederickâs luxury car pulled up in front of her.
Frederick stepped out of the back seat, looking so handsome and cool that she couldnât look away. The anger in his eyes was like fire, and the moment he saw Marguerite, he gave off a powerful vibe.
Marguerite felt guilty under his gaze and unconsciously stepped back. Just then, he charged at her like a beast. She opened her eyes wide trying to explain, but Frederickâs icy voice cut her off, âHow did you get in here? Get out!â
