Chapter 43: Broken her

Dominic held Athena’s small and cold hand tightly in his large fist while looking at her carefully.

Her face was filled with different wounds and cuts. He slowly and shakily raised his hands and touched her face delicately as if she would break down any moment. And all the places he was touching, the marks were vanishing into thin air.

The power of mate bond…

“A…Ace… Ace… Ace…” He immediately pulled his hands away when he heard her coming back to consciousness.

He was shocked to see her coming back to consciousness so fast. And he was more astonished seeing her calling for her son for the first time after coming back to consciousness from such a big accident.

Maybe it was just her strong motherly instinct…

She opened her eyes and groaned in pain when she went to sit up abruptly.

“Careful! Don’t move so fast. You are going to open up your wounds.” He warned while holding her hands. She looked at him confused first and then in anger before she pushed him away with a hard push, not caring about the pain she was in.

“Stay away from me! Do you hear me?!” She shouted as she looked at him in pure anger.

“Athena?” He looked at him in confusion.

“Don’t fucking call my name! Stay away from me. Get out! All these things are happening because of you.” She cried out loud while suddenly looking around with fearful eyes. That’s when he realised something was wrong with her.

“Athena… calm down… what’s wrong?” He asked in a slow yet careful tone.

“How dare you ask me that?! Because of you I am going to die! He is going to kill me! I need to save myself. I need to save myself for my son. Or he would kill us.” Athena shouted before quickly getting down from the bed, shocking him. He took a step toward her and she instantly stepped away.

“Athena! What’s wrong?! What are you talking about? Calm down! Are you absolutely okay!” He shouted at her but she wasn’t having it. She threw everything off of the side tables and threw things at him.

“Stay away from me, you monster! Stay away.” She shouted as she kept throwing things.

He quickly took large steps toward her when he realised that she wasn’t in the right state of mind and injured herself even farther. He needed to calm her down. So, he forcefully went toward her, despite the abuse she was implementing at her.

“Leave me! I said leave me!” She shouted but he hugged her tightly. He didn’t let her move at all as he kept his hand wrapped around her with no intention to leave.

“Shh… shh… everything is okay. You are okay. Ace is okay. You both are safe. Calm down please. You are safe with me. I will never let anything happen to you.” He whispered and she looked up at him with droopy eyes.

“Do you promise?”

“I promise.”

And that was it, after that she lost her consciousness once again. In his arms, leaving him in a messy state.

NEXT MORNING Dominic stood behind the Doctor who was examining Athena on the hospital bed of his pack hospital. It had been so many hours since she was unconscious again. She wasn’t back to consciousness yet.

The rest of the room was still scattered and looked utterly disoriented after the havoc she created last night. The Doctor injected some sedatives and then stood up.

“Is she fine, Doctor?” Nathan asked worriedly and Dominic looked at him with a frown which he ignored.” Why did she fall unconscious?”

The Doctor exhaled.

“She got an anxiety attack, beta and it seemed like it wasn’t the first time.” The doctor said with a frown.

Dominic looked at him in shock and disbelief which he quickly hid behind his blank look but Suzanne and Nathan looked at each other. From Suzanne’s face, it was clear that she knew about it.

Yes, that might sound impossible for a strong woman like Athena but it was true. She has gone through a lot in her life to be broken beyond limit. Still the way she keeps fighting everyday was beyond fascinating.

“This all happened because of you! You pushed her button and broke her so much to cause this to me!

It’s all your fault.” Suzanne shouted at Dominic while crying, holding Nathan.

“Yes. This usually happens when the person is in stress from an over longed period. I don’t want to know what happened here but with what I see around myself right now and the symptoms you explained to me about how she reacted before falling unconscious, points out the same. Thankfully it wasn’t a severe attack. Her current health might be one of the reasons as well that she reacted this way. Also, her wolf is not engaged with her, that’s a really bad thing as well. I think they need to be released as it seems that they haven’t gone for a run for a long time.” The doctor explained.

“Doctor, can you please check her wounds?” Suzanne said while looking at her worriedly.

The doctors checked them all and sighed in displeasure.

“What is it?” Dominic asked emotionlessly.

“Well, the wounds are not healed properly. But they are not fatal anymore. It’s just her healing ability has become completely like a human. We need to think of a way to recover it as soon as possible.” The doctor explained.

Dominic had no words to say. He still couldn’t believe Athena is suffering from all these and he knew very well that she started to have them after his rejection.

Did his heart just clenched for her?! “How much longer can you not acknowledge that you feel for our mate?’ his wolf growled which he ignored just like all the time.

“Anyways, I have given her the sedatives which should relax her body and mind. When she wakes up.

make her eat something and take those medicines And alpha, if you are really her mate. Please be as close to her as possible. You closeness can help her a lot to recover fast. Let’s hope for the best.” The doctor said and got up to leave.

“Thank you so much, doctor.” Suzanne thanked her and the doctor nodded at her.

“Take care of her.” The doctor said one last time and left the room.

None of them said anything to the doctor. But when the doctor left Suzanne bursted at Dominic.

“Are you happy now? After all that is what you wanted, right? Destroy her? You knew how much she was going to get affected by this rejection. You still did this to her. But that wasn’t enough, in her presence you were going to mark another woman and literally kill her! Do you realise what would have happened if you had actually done that? She would have died!” She snapped in anger.

“But she didn’t die, right? Nor did I mark another woman. So, stop this banter and leave.” He ordered using his alpha tone and Suzanne was forced to follow it. She groaned and unwantedly stormed out of the room. Now it was only Dominic and Nathan in the room.

“Remember once I asked what you would do if your mate turns out to be a rogue. If you would be able to destroy her? You said that you will but I didn’t believe you. But today I already got my answer. You don’t need to destroy her, you have already destroyed her. I can bet she lost her healing abilities because of you. You broke her. You shouldn’t have done that you did exactly like how a rogue would do….” Nathan vented out.

“Out.” Dominic said without any emotion.

“What?” Nathan exclaimed in disbelief and confusion “Get out of the room.” He gave Nathan a heated glare.

“Fine! But call me immediately after she wakes up. We are worried for her, unlike you.” Nathan said with a roll of his eyes.

Dominic glared at him again and he glared back but nevertheless left the room after closing the door behind him.

Dominic looked around the room and sighed. Then he looked at the woman who was lying lifelessly on the bed.

He walked toward the couch, avoiding the scattered things. He kneeled down in front of her and brushed away some hairs from her face. She looked pale and sick. There were dark circles below her eyes. Tears had dried away and left marks over her cheeks.

He sat next to her and held her hand hesitatingly. It was cold, lifeless and lacking energy. It felt dead and the thought itself was terrifying like the last time. Yes, he was scared last time as well, though he didn’t know it was her who was injured. That’s what the mate bond does. He bent his head and kissed the back o f her palm unknowingly.

They were right. It was his fault. He did all this to her. He was really an asshole toward her. He still remembers the innocent and happy smile she gave him the next morning after that night. He didn’t take a moment to snatch that smile away from her.

He sighed again while closing his eyes, he was still holding her hands.

The woman whom he never wanted in his life was back in his life. And now he was slowly breaking every rule he made against her.

What a tragedy!!

“A…Ace… Ace…where is my son?”

He was brought back to present hearing her voice and immediately left her hand which she was holding.

“You? What are you doing here? Where am I? Where is Ace?” She asked with a deep frown while sitting up slowly. He wanted to help but stopped himself at the end moment.

He was trying to show he didn’t care at all and all he was doing was just for humanity. He walked back to the table which was completely broken and picked up the sandwich which he had ordered for her. He walked back to her and threw the sandwich on her lap.

“Eat it.” He ordered her, without answering her questions. He looked directly into her eyes and ordered her strictly to eat it without making a fuss. When he realised that she was going to create a scene, he immediately spoke up again.

“Doctor said to have those medicines after eating something if you want to stay alive.” He said coldly.

Athena frowned at him but nevertheless picked the sandwich with shaky hands and started to unwrap it slowly Her shaky hands didn’t go unnoticed by Dominic. “Your hands… they are… shaking.” He said while pointing at her shaky hands with a frown.

“I.. know. They will stop once I take.. the medicines and food.” Athena mumbled hesitantly in a low voice while looking down.

She was ashamed of herself. She wasn’t supposed to lose her calm like this. She wasn’t supposed to let them know, let Dominic know her weakness. She wasn’t supposed to let Dominic see how much he broke her. She doesn’t want him to think she was weak.

She shouldn’t have mindlinked him in the first place. She should have thought with a calmer mind and found a solution. But what to do? Derrick came all prepared. Also how weak she was, wasn’t helping as well.

She didn’t look at Dominic for once. She just wanted to leave this place as soon as possible and for that she has to get her energy back soon which will be possible only when she eats the sandwich given by Dominic and takes those medicines, She was eating the sandwich pretty fast, while ignoring the pain on her body. She felt his pricing eyes on her and that made her eat more hurriedly. Suddenly food stuck in her chest and she started to cough loudly.

“Careful!” Dominic shouted and immediately walked toward her. He sat down beside her and poured some water for her. At the rate she was eating, he knew it was to happen. He held the glass at the tip of her lips and she gulped it down quickly.

When she was okay, she put her feets down hurriedly and forwarded her shaky hands toward the treat to get her medicine. Dominic stopped her by holding her shaky hands by one hand and taking those medicines by one. He put her hands back to her laps; she didn’t object. She just wanted to get over it.

He opened all the medicines one by one.

Athena forwarded her hands to get the medicines which he ignored and feeded her the medicines by his own hand. Athena looked at him in shock and opened her mouth unknowingly. He fed her the medicines and water. He was behaving like everything was normal between them.

There is no way in hell everything was okay between them.

When he looked down to see her shocked face, he looked at them in satisfaction. He even breathed a sigh in satisfaction as if he felt peace by taking care of her. Suddenly sense knocked into his head and he realised what just happened.

‘Did I just get satisfaction by showing her my rights? Wait, right? Where did that come from?’ He thought and started to curse himself in his mind.

“How do you feel?” He asked in a low tone as she sat there while looking away from her.

“That’s none of your business. What are you doing here? Can you just leave?” She asked in fury while looking away from him still. She felt her heart burning and she could feel the bond between them once again. What was happening?

“Athena, listen-…” Dominic had just started to talk when there was a knock on the door. They both looked at the door and immediately a frown fell on her face which he noticed.

“Stacey?” Dominic asked in confusion when he saw standing there.

“The responsible Luna might have come to wish me quick recovery.” Athena mumbled under her breath which Dominic heard but didn’t say anything. He waited for Stacey to speak up.

“What is it, Stacey?” He asked.

“Can you please come with me for a second? I want to talk to you.” Stacey said in a blank tone.

Dominic looked at Athena once who was already looking at him with a frown. She didn’t want him to go with Stacey, it was clear from her face.

“Let’s go.”

And yet again, he disappointed her and she disappointed herself by having expectations from him.
