Chapter 428
Lord Protector Novel
After a short silence, someone shouted, âSeventy million.â
The crowd murmured as they turned to the source of the voice.
No one had expected the voice to be Hadleyâs, the woman who had condoms in her LV bag?
That woman was so rich that she could bid a resounding seventy million?
Then why was she so nervous and upset when she lost that coin pouch with only a thousand in cash inside?
Nancy and her family thought that it was strange because Hadleyâs previous behavior was simply too weird.
Nancy stared at the stone and murmured, âSeventy million... Seventy million...â
âAunt, should we add another five million to the bid?â
Hannah took a deep breath and replied, âItâs better if we personally check it out first.â
âSeventy million, is there a higher bid?â asked the auctioneer.
âSeventy million going once, seventy million going twice...â
Nancy suddenly asked, âHang on, can we take a closer look?â
âOr course. Please step up to the stage, miss,â said the auctioneer.
Nancy quickly dragged Hannah up onto the stage, and they used some professional tools to examine the rock.
Everyone had their eyes on the duo as they waited.
After examining the rock, Nancy and Hannah returned to their seats. Nancy whispered, âAunt, I am certain that the gemstone inside is of high quality. If there arenât any flaws nor inclusions, we should make at least one hundred and fifty million.â
âAs such, weâd make a profit even if we bid a hundred million on it.â
Hannah sighed and replied, âBut what if the gemstone is flawed?â
âBesides, we donât know if the stone is filled with high-quality gemstones? What if the gemstones are only on the surface?â
âThe latter is virtually impossible. In short, I think itâs worth the risk,â said Nancy.
Zeke took a deep breath and advised, âPlease take my advice. That rock is nothing but a horrible book with an incredible cover.â
Nancy refuted, âShut up. You think Iâm judging this rock like an idiot who judges a book by its cover?
Dumbass!â
Zeke wanted to say some more, but Lacey stopped him. âItâs obvious that Nancy doesnât like you, so donât butt in at a time like this, okay? Youâll just be scolded.â
Zeke sighed, âYouâre going to regret it.â
Nancy put her hand up and shouted, âSeventy-five million!â
There was complete silence.
Hadley suddenly said, âI want to take a closer look, too.â
The auctioneer said, âNo problem.â
Hadley checked the stone out before she returned to her seat and stopped talking.
The auctioneer shouted, âIs anyone going higher than seventy-five million?â
âSeventy-five million going once, seventy-five million going twice, sold!â
Nancyâs beating heart finally settled down. She was rather satisfied with that result.
Everyone came up to congratulate Nancy.
Nancy grinned as she turned to Lacey and said, âLacey, Iâll treat you to a grand dinner after we cut that rock open.â
âThereâs no need for that. The country is encouraging us to not be wasteful and keep ceremonies like funeral simple?â
Nancy glared at Zeke and asked, âWhat is that supposed to mean?â
âIâm worried that you might die of dehydration because you will cry so much after we cut the stone open. The dinner you intend to treat us will therefore turn to be a feast at your funeral.â
Nancyâs face darkened, âLacey Hinton, give me the car keys right now. I am going to run this piece of sh*t over!â
Lacey and Hannah were both exasperated.
Those two mustâve been a cat and a dog in their past lives. That was probably why they fight like cats and dogs whenever they got together.
After taking the stone away, the auctioneer said, âAlright, settle down, everybody.â
âThe previous gemstone has found it owner. Letâs see who is taking the next baby home.â
âPlease take the second stone to the stage.â
When the second stone showed up, everyone couldnât help but hold their breath.
