Chapter 35

The Taking

I know this story ended a little to fast but after almost 2 year of being on HIATUS my imagination circuits are not working for my old stories. I'm trying to squeeze out all that I can muster just to end all my uncompleted books.

[Greyson]

It happened instantly, but the seconds stretched into minutes as I watched Celeste close her eyes, her finger pushed the trigger and the bullet disappeared between me and Remington. I told her to shot, but I didn't expect her to aim accurately. With nothing left to lose, I prayed that luck would be on our side and the bullet would hit the right mark.

"AHH!" Remington roared and arched above me.

At the same time, Celeste screamed in horror of Remington's state of undress.

I shove him off me and he rolls sideways with his front pressed to the ground.

"You nearly blew off my nuts!" Remington hissed between teeth and cringing on the ground. He was bleeding rather profusely from leg.

"Where did he come from?"

I look over my shoulder and see Gran followed by the three humans. They were looking at me with astonished faces and I held back a bark that would have had them running to the hills.

I stiffened at the sight of them. This was the first time seeing humans in the daylight when there was no eclipse.

"He just arrived here." Gran explained. "He's my---uh---He's the cardiologist who I hired from out of state to monitor my heart problems."

First it was a gardner, next she makes up a cardiologist. What else does this old lady have in her sleeve of tricks?

Celeste hesitantly walked up to me. Relief washed her features. Relieved she wrapped her arms around my neck and cried. "I didn't kill you! Thank god!"

With one hand I held her around the waist and rested my head on the curve of her shoulder. "I'm fine." We're just fine.

She was in my arms safe and in one piece.

"Why are they all naked? Do all men who employed by you work in the nude?" The human asks Gran who simply shrugs her shoulders and isn't bothered by the fact that these men may in fact think she is running some sort of nasty business in her house basement.

"Another question: Where did those wolves go?" The shorter human asks.

"Would you believe me if I said the wolves in these parts like to strip men out of their clothes?" Gran muttered.

They didn't believe her. "What the hell is going on?!"

"Before you get those answers, can someone please lend him clothes?" Gran asks them.

The guy in plaid, unbuttons his shirt. Thankfully he had another shirt beneath it, but the cloth reeked with disgusting human oder when he handed it to me. Since it was rather short, I tied the sleeves around my stomach to cover my front.

"Nice back view." Gran whistled.

"Gran!" Celeste said, moving behind me to prevent anyone from taking a peak from my behind.

It was still to early for us to relax. Remington remains to live and although he just had a silver bullet penetrate through him, he was flailing about like a fish out of water.

"We have to kill the cardiologist." Gran says looking at me.

She was so deep into her make believe world that this whole situation was starting to sound idiotic.

"You're trying to pull our legs, Diana?" The human asks the little old lady. "You're not seriously thinking of killing your cardiologist, right?"

She looks over her shoulder and face the men with utmost seriousness, "It's for the good of the people, Ricky."

With a salute, she snatches the riffle from the palms of one of the humans.

The three men look mortified.

"You're off your rocker if you think we are just going to stand and watch you kill a person!" One of the humans say.

I groan. "Someone please knock them out." They were a distraction that I couldn't deal with right now. In fact, I would really like to to knock out Gran too, but her family might not appreciate that.

"My pleasure." Vincent comes up from behind them and presses his fingers into a pressure point behind two of the guys necks. Both men faint to the ground. The one that is still awake starts screaming in horror.

"Get away!" He shrieks.

"Oh for the love of..." Gran kicks his balls and he faints in an instant.

Vincent looks at me and Celeste in what appears to be fear and moves slowly away from her keeping safe guard of his groin.

"That was completely unnecessary." I tell her.

"Too late." She cautiously walks towards Remington with Riffle at hand.

Remington remains to be twisting in pain with the silver gunshot wound.

Gran gams the butt of the riffle into his injured leg. "So you are the little piece of crap that's been harassing my family for years. I may not have liked your son for charming my daughter out of my life and home, but she made my baby happy. The type of happiness that I wasn't capable of giving her as her mother..." She jammed the butt of the riffle into Remington's wound once more, but this time it hit directly over the bullet opening. He shot up in excruciating pain. "Now you dare mess with my grand babies?!" She turns the riffle around and unlocks the safety. "you're and dead dog rolling."

"Wait," I stop her. "We need to find out what else he has done during his years in hiding. We need to know all his dirty secrets before we get rid of him...permanently."

"Kill me, you're not getting anything from me." Remington spat.

"You heard him!" Gran pulled the trigger and it fires into his other leg.

The pain must have been unbearable because he becomes unconscious.

"Celeste!" Trent was in his wolf form, carrying his mother on his back.

"Mom!" Celeste runs to her mother along with Gran.

"Tracy!" Gran inspects her daughter. "I can't believe you. I can't believe all this!" She gestures to the air. "Who knew you were as reckless as me? You fall in love with a dog--

"Werewolf." Vincent and I say in unison.

"Whatever--You have hybrid kids with him. Your daughter ends up becoming the legendary Beast's Bride. Your Dog lover's killer psychopathic father tries to kill you and the kids! This is going to be a new part of the legend I can't wait to tell my great grandchildren." She stares off at me and Celeste as if the bun was already in the oven.

I wish.

Celeste's face heats up at what her grandmother was implying.

"She's too young to have children." Tracy mutters glaring at me as if daring me to break that rule.

"What are you going to do with him." Celeste asks me.

Her strength was what was holding me up right. I leaned on her finally being able to relax. My bride was at my side willingly with her family by her side.

It looks like we both got what we wanted.

"My dad will deal with him. We'll lock him in the dungeon and get some answers from him." I tell them. "Vincent, have the pack doctor give those humans a small dose of hallucinogens. Just enough to make them think they had gotten lost in the forest and lost their minds from starvation."

"As a nurse, I completely do not agree with that idea." Tracy mutters.

"it's either that, or they're going to tell the whole town I employ nudists in my house." Gran smirks.

Trent's wolf groans and turns his large head to his mother as if saying "don't let her ruin our good name."

"Greyson, do we have to go back to the pack house? Can't we live in the town like all the other wolves in your pack? Vincent, Leo...they are able to live outside the sanctuary. Can we?" Celeste asks me.

She looks at her family hopeful. I knew why she was asking. she didn't want to be separated from them. When we return to the house, she wouldn't be able to leave, or see anyone outside unless they come visit her.

Imagining her caged inside and forced to remain in the house with me made me feel like the type of monster that the legend portrays.

I didn't want to sadden her.

"I'll talk to my father." I said.

Vincent looked at me shocked. "But Greyson, none of our alphas have lived outside the protection line."

"Don't you think it's time for us not to hide anymore? What kind of alpha hides? I don't understand why my ancestors made that rule, but from here on out we need to make changes." I tell him.

"What gives you that authority son?" Dad appeared from behind us with a scowl on his face.

"As future alpha I would like to process that new order." I face my father.

"You have to discuss this with the pack. Many of our elderly would not be pleased by that change. They are very traditional--conservative."

"Changes are made to better the back. If we stay as we are others will surpass us...who knows--they could have already."

Dad narrowed his eyes at me and glanced at everyone listening. "We will talk about this later. Right now we need to get the wounded back to the house for care." He looked at Remington on the floor. "As for him...be careful in his handling. We need to get him locked up. Torture him for answers if we have to and end him once we get the info we need."

Vincent nodded with the command. "How's my brother?"

"Restless. He's severely injured but is in stable condition."

Relief washed in all our faces.

"Let's get out of here before other humans find us." I tell them.

Two days later, Celeste and I are resting in my bedroom. I had bandages all over my body that I nearly looked like a mummy.

"Go to sleep Greyson." Celeste scolded me.

I couldn't sit still. My wolf was still feeling defensive. After over a week of action, my adrenaline was still high.

Celeste's fingers twirled the small strand of hair dangling over my forehead around her finger. I grabbed her finger and placed the back of her hand to my cheek loving how her hand warmed my skin.

"I want you to stay with me forever." I tell her.

She chuckles. "You think I have another choice."

I tug her hand making her fall a little closer to my face. "You always have a choice...I just can't live without you. Wherever you go, I will follow you woman."

Her gaze soften's. "I...I don't think I can live without you either..."

She leans down staring at my lips. Finally....she intends to kiss me. Both me and my wolf are jumping for joy--

And then...

"GREYSON!!!!!!!" Two brats charge into my room.

Liam and Caleb split different directions and leap into my bed making my body jump up and down.

I haven't seen these two in days and I sure haven't missed them.

"GREY GREY GREY!!!!! You're not dead!" They sing happily.

As they bounce around my wounds ache.

"Boys, boys, get off the bed!" Celeste scolds them. "Your brother is hurt!"

The two brats jump off and then run to tackle my girl to the ground.

"CELESTE,you're back!" Liam grins.

"You're back!" Caleb repeats.

"What did mom feed you?!" I ask them.

They were so freaking hyper it was abnormal.

"We kept asking Charlotte for candy." Liam said with an evil grin on her face.

I groan. Looks like I have to reinforce the house rules now that we have no members.

Rule #1: Don't give the twins sweets.

There was a knock at the door.

"you're awake."

Leo came limping in. "Glad to see you with all your limbs."

"Why is everyone deciding to visit me now?" I complain.

Celeste giggles and leans down to whisper in my ear. "Don't worry, we have all eternity."

I smile at her.

Leo clears his throat. "Your mom wanted me to tell you that she is planning your wedding. 'It's highly over due' her words exactly."

Both Celeste and I groan. "Can't all that wait until we have all gotten over the last few days?"

"Talk to your parents. They wants you two be married by the end of this week."

"My mom won't agree to that." Celeste says.

"Actually she did." Leo said surprising us.

"What?" Celeste says flabbergasted.

"Alpha Bennett convinced her. According to him, 'A couple that sleeps in the same room--"

"Don't even finish that." I tell him.

Leo smirks. "I'm just relaying a message."

"We haven't done anything!" Celeste says. Her face red as a tomato.

"Rules are rules...just warning you two." Leo raises his hands in defense.

"I hate your rules." Celeste mutters.

"Greyson, Remington was eliminated this morning." Leo informs me.

We all grow silent at that.

"Did they get information from him."

"Not much, but before he took his last breath he said, 'He lives.' What ever that means--We are trying to find out."

He lives...

Even in death he still has us running in circles.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE send me some predictions. I need some inspiration!!!

URGGG...Who knew writing after 1.5 years would be so hard. Never NEVER take a break and leave a story unfinished. I should have just finished writing this while it was still fresh in my mind. Anyway...hopefully the ending isn't too disappointing.

This was one of my best stories and it ended flat...I think. I'm honestly just done with it...I'm ready to move on.
