Chapter 53

Previously

"When I called her to tell what happened, she said she couldn't leave from where she was. If she would leave, she would lose her job and seeing that she is the only one who is providing for us, she couldn't take the chance to risk it. I have called her every day to update her. I first thought that Mark was with her, but turns out he wasn't. I have no clue where he is and to be fair, I don't really care either"

Mason nods his head and pecks my lips. I smile at him and snuggle closer. His arms wrap around me and slowly we fall asleep.

Now

"Jade, come help me over here please"

Jade walks over to me and raises her eyebrows.

"Daniel, you're the tallest of us three, come help us" Jade shouts and I chuckle

We're trying to decorate the house, but Jade and I are too small and seeing that we also forgot to bake cake and Daniel is the best cook of us three, he has too help us out all the time. Jade and I are pretty much useless right now.

"Jade, could you watch the cake while I help Alex?"

I smile at his attire. He's wearing a cooking hat that Jade and I made him wear. He also has an apron of a half-naked man on, which we also made him wear. He, oops.

"Pss, jeesz, I didn't realize that you were so small that you couldn't even reach the ceiling while standing on a chair, dopey"

"Blame my genes, not me" I smile as he places the decorations in the right places, "and thanks for the nickname, he's the cutest from all the dwarfs, bashful"

"Why bashful?" Daniel turns around and raises one eyebrow at me

"Because at first you were a lot quieter and now you're finally opening up to us and showing your inner weirdness" I wink at him as his cheeks turn slightly red

"Aw, you're blushing, how cute"

"I think I'm going to have to talk to Mason and Jayden soon" he sighs deeply as he gets up from the chair

"Why?"

"Someone has to teach you that teasing people isn't nice" he grins and winks at me

"Pssh, then you shouldn't be going to the kings of teasing aka Mason and Jayden, they'll only help me" I smile wickedly

"We'll see about that"

"Uh, Daniel? I think the cake is about to get burned" Jades panicking voice from the kitchen says

"Shít" he curses and quickly runs to the kitchen

I walk outside and with the help of a ladder I get the 'WELCOME HOME' sign up. The moment I put the ladder away I get a text from Mason, that's saying that they will arrive in 5 minutes.

"Guys, they're here in 5 minutes"

We quickly put everything together and wait in the living room. Soon the door opens and Jay walks inside with a big smile on his face, followed by Jake, Mason and Tyler.

"WELCOME HOME" We scream in unison and I jump in Jay's arms with a big smile on my face as well.

After talking about everything that happened the past few weeks, we were just having fun. Everyone, except Mason, Jay and I of course just left and Jay is right now upstairs, while I'm getting extremely bored.

"Let's go get ice cream" he smiles down at me and my face lightens up at the mention of ice cream. I skip around the room in happiness and clap my hands together excitedly. I guess you could call me a child.

"You speak my language" I smile happily as I quickly run to my room to get changed.

"Jay! We're going out"

"Okay, be safe" he shouts back

We walk out the door and towards the park where I once ran into Mason, Jake and Tyler. Ha, good times.

Mason's hand entwines with mine and I smile down at our hands.

"You look beautiful, Lex" I look up at him as my cheeks slowly turn red

"Thanks," I whisper, "you don't look too bad yourself" I smile up at him

We reach the ice cream shop that's placed in the middle of the park.

"What can I help you with?" the girl, who looks to be in her mid-twenties, asks

"Can I have one cornicle with one scoop of cookies and one of hazelnut, please" I say

"And can I have one cornicle with one scoop of strawberry and chocolate"

"Here you go, that'll be 4 dollars"

I make amends to pay her the money, but Mason stops her.

"Mason, just let me pay for once" I sigh deeply

"No"

"You're not going to pay again" I quickly grab his money from his hand and hand the girl my own

"Thank you, have a nice day" she smiles and turns around

I give Mason his money back, but he doesn't want to take it, seriously?

I pull him into a hug. First he's surprised, but a few seconds later he hugs me back. I move the hand with the money in it, to his back pocket and quickly put it in there. I pull back and smile sweetly at him. He frowns, but then smiles back.

"Thank you" I say and quickly turn around, ready to walk towards a pretty big pond with ducks in it.

"Come back, you" I look over my shoulder at Mason, to see him with the money in his hands and narrowed eyes staring directly at me

I quickly look in front of me and start running. I keep my eyes on my ice cream to avoid spilling it, then all of this would be for nothing.

I squeal as an arm wraps around my waist and I collide into a stone hard chest. Mason.

"Just let me pay, it's just 4 dollars for goodness sake" I turn around and chuckle

"Fine, only this once"

"Yay!" I smile brightly as I finally eat my ice cream

We sit down on a bench and talk about everything and nothing.

Suddenly Mason's expression turns all serious and he sighs deeply as he looks into my eyes.

"What's wrong?" I ask worriedly

"No, don't worry" he shakes it off and plasters on a fake smile

"What is it, Mase? You can tell me anything, you know that right?" I smile softly at him as I grab his hand

"Today it's been exactly 5 years since they left" he mumbles and looks down in embarrassment

I scooch closer to him and softly grab his chin to make him look at me. A single tear rolls down his cheek and I wipe it away with my thumb.

"They're ássholes for leaving you like that, no one deserves to go through something like that." I whisper and look him closely in the eyes

"I was 13, just 13. I had to cook for myself, do you know how many times I burned myself? I stopped counting after a while. I had to do everything myself and no one ever noticed that I was living on my own. I would be dead right now if my grandma didn't leave me all of her money when she died. What kind of parents would do that? They're no parents of mine, they've lost that term 5 years ago"

I pull him in a big hug, "you're right, you were way too young to be living on your own, they should've never left you like that. They don't know what they're missing out on. You're amazing and I don't want you to blame yourself. It's not your fault"

"Look at the person you've become; you've turned into this amazing boy-"

"Man" Mason interrupts me and a small smile spreads across my lips as I pull back from the hug

"you've turned into this amazing man without them"

"I don't want to turn into them, I don't ever want my children to go through that"

"You won't turn into them, you're nothing like they are. You're a loving and caring person. You have a good heart and I'm 100% sure that you will be the best father for your children"

He smiles down at me and I mirror his expression. Mason starts to lean in and so do I. We're mere inches apart, when a voice interrupts us.

"Mason?"

I groan and turn around to look at the person who interrupted us oh so rudely. A man I've never seen before looks at Mason with wide eyes.

I frown in confusion and look at Mason for an explanation. When I look at Mason, hurt flashes his face, mixed with other emotions as anger, disappointment, shock and hatred. I look back at the man and see that he has the exact same eyes as Mason and that their facial structures match too.

Who the héll is this man?

Mason rapidly gets up and grabs my hand as he puts on a cold expression.

"Let's go Alex" he says sternly, leaving no room for discussion

I nod and Mason pulls me away from the man.

"Masy boy, please. I've missed you"

Masy boy? He missed Mason?

Wait... No, it can't be right?

"Don't ever call me that again" Mason says angrily and let's go of my hand. He turns around to face the man, who has a face full of... regret?

"Mason, who is he?" I whisper and grab his hand

"This Alex, is the person who was supposed to be my dad all those years ago"
