Chapter 914
Comeback Of The Adored Heiress
Chapter 914:
Evita gripped her phone tightly, her mind racing. Had Andrew not noticed her post yet?
Hours ago, at a nearby restaurant, Luka and Vienna were still waiting for Elaine and Glenn while Madisynâs unease grew. Finally, after much anticipation, the couple walked in.
âApologies, we ran into some issues on the way and got delayed,â Elaine explained.
Luka kept his expression neutral. âNo problem, as long as youâre here now. Letâs start eating.â He signaled the waiter to bring out the food. While he remained composed, the slight disappointment in his eyes was unmistakable. It had been twenty years since they last met, yet Elaine seemed indifferent.
Vienna, too, felt disheartened. Sheâd hoped that with Madisyn bridging the gap, Elaine would show a sincere effort to mend things. If she truly cared, would she have shown up almost an hour late?
Luka and Vienna had been so worried about being late that they had arrived thirty minutes early themselves.
Vienna couldnât fool herself any longerâperhaps Elaine just wasnât as invested in this meeting.
Elaine caught their looks and felt a sharp pang of guilt. Glenn attempted to strike up a conversation, but their responses were quite lukewarm. Madisyn found herself stuck in the middle, feeling awkward and unsure. She couldnât fault her uncle for his frustration. She would feel the same if it were her, especially on such an important day.
Still, she was baffled. Her mother had been so eager about this meetingâhow could she have shown up this late?

The mood at the dinner table was nothing like the warm reunion they had imagined. Barely half an hour into the meal, Luka set his fork down.
âIt looks like youâve been doing fine all these years. Thatâs good to know. Weâve got work to tend to, so weâll leave now.â
Elaine quickly apologized, âIâm truly sorry, Luka. I didnât think it would take this long.â
Vienna glanced at Elaine. She had long wished for her husband to mend things with his sister, but now, thinking about his nervousness when they prepared to leave home and Elaineâs indifference toward the meeting, she felt it was unfair.
âYou can all carry on. Weâll head out now,â Vienna said softly.
Years ago, it was clearly Elaineâs mistake. If she wasnât interested in patching things up now, why would she and her husband bother to be so warm and friendly?
Elaineâs eyes grew misty. Glenn, feeling for her, said, âLuka, Vienna, this delay was on us, but Elaine truly wanted to meet you.â
Lukaâs lips curled into a faint, bitter smile. He found it hard to believe that Elaine genuinely wanted to reconnect.
Elaine could see the disappointment written all over Lukaâs face, and it made her heart sink. âIâm so sorry, Luka. Iâve let you down again. Maybe Iâm just too foolish to get things right. Here, this is for you. I promise I wonât bother you anymore.â
