Chapter 1288
Comeback Of The Adored Heiress
Chapter 1288:
âOne day, youâll have the same.â
Madisyn smiled, giving Evieâs hand a gentle pat. At that moment, a voice suddenly chimed in.
âWaylon used to be here for every birthday celebration. Itâs a shame heâs abroad this year and couldnât make it back.â
As soon as Waylonâs name was mentioned, the conversation shifted. Several people began reminiscing about past celebrations, recalling moments when he had been present. The room remained lively, but Evieâs smile faltered ever so slightly.
And as if on cue, Andrewâs phone, sitting on the table, lit up with an incoming call. Everyoneâs eyes instinctively flickered toward the screen.
âItâs Waylonâs video call,â Madisyn remarked.
Andrew picked up the phone, swiping to accept the call. Waylonâs face appeared on the screen.
âAndrew, happy birthday. Sorry I couldnât make it back this time. Howâs the celebration? Let me see.â
Andrew turned the camera toward the room, letting Waylon greet the others one by one. Then, as the lens settled on Evie, Waylon froze.
Waylonâs gaze met Evieâs through the screen, his sharp eyes catching the faint trace of sadness on her face. Almost instinctively, he looked away.
After a brief pause, he finally spoke.
âHey, Evie! Okay, you all have fun.â
With that, he swiftly shifted the topic.
âAndrew, the gift I got for you has already been sent. It should arrive in a few days, so be sure to check for it.â
As he spoke, a womanâs voice drifted in from behind him.

âDear, are you ready yet?â
The woman never appeared on screen, but the warmth in her tone alone was enough to make Evieâs chest tighten.
Waylon turned his head, saying something to the woman before looking back at the screen.
âAndrew, Madisyn, have fun. I have something to take care of, so Iâll hang up now. Letâs get together later.â
Madisyn responded, âOkay, see you later, Waylon.â
With that, the call ended, and the room regained its previous liveliness. Conversations flowed freely, laughter rippled through the air, and someone even brought up the latest rumors about Waylon. But amidst all the lighthearted chatter, Evie sat there, her expression quietly betraying the ache in her heart.
Madisyn noticed the shift in Evieâs demeanor and made her way over.
âEvie, what happened?â
Meeting Madisynâs concerned gaze, Evie found herself unable to put her feelings into words. Instead, she forced a small smile.
âIâm just a little tired. Itâs nothing, Madisyn. You donât need to worry about me. Iâll just sit here for a while.â
Madisyn frowned.
âDonât be silly. How can I not worry about you?â She glanced around the lively room before pulling Andrew aside to quietly tell him about Evieâs state. Andrew, too, turned his attention to her.
