Chapter 1281
Comeback Of The Adored Heiress
Chapter 1281:
Then, she came across the news. And just like that, she got her answer. Waylon hadnât missed her at all.
He was living a completely new life, surrounded by different women, moving from one romance to another without a second thought.
A wave of frustration tightened in Evieâs chest. But beyond the frustration, there was something deeperâworry.
The Waylon she knew wasnât like this. He had always been disciplined, never the kind to entertain fleeting romances. But now? He was labeled a playboy, constantly seen with different women. Had he really changed that much? Or worseâhad he hurt someone in the process? And the most painful thought of all⦠was she the reason he had become like this?
Evieâs gaze lingered on the familiar number on her phone screen. She wanted to call, to hear his voice, to ask him if any of it was true. But no matter how much she wanted to, she couldnât bring herself to press the button.
Just then, the door opened. Sadie walked in and immediately noticed Evieâs distant expression. Holding her phone, lost in thought, she looked⦠troubled.
âEvie, are you okay?â Sadie asked, concern in her voice.
âYou donât look well. Did something happen?â
Evie lifted her gaze but couldnât find the words to explain. She simply shook her head.
Sadie placed a glass of water in front of her, her tone softening.
âMaybe youâre just exhausted. Get some rest. Iâll wake you up later.â
Evie nodded faintly.
âOkayâ¦â
Setting her phone aside, Evie lay down on the sofa.

If she couldnât make sense of her thoughts, maybe sleep was the only escape. At least in sleep, she wouldnât have to think, wouldnât have to feel.
With a deep breath, she closed her eyes, choosingâfor nowâto shut out the world.
In Madisynâs office, she rose from her desk, having wrapped up the dayâs work. Making her way to the tea station, she prepared herself a fragrant cup of flower tea, the delicate aroma filling the air.
Her phoneâs gentle chime broke the peaceful silence. A glance at the screen revealed Damariâs name.
âMr. Klein,â she greeted warmly.
A familiar chuckle resonated through the line.
âMadisyn, are you busy these days?â
âNot too busy,â Madisyn replied, settling into the plush sofa.
As their conversation flowed, it was clear that Damari treated Madisyn with all the affection of a true grandfather. After their usual pleasant exchange, he said, âMadisyn, it feels like ages since your last visit. Iâve missed you dearly. The fish in Klein Manorâs pond have grown wonderfully plump and fresh. When might you come by? Iâll have them caught specially for you in advance.â
Despite his reputation for being strong-willed and hot-tempered in his younger yearsâand even now maintaining a certain rigidity with othersâDamari had developed a genuine soft spot for his future granddaughter-in-law. The moment those fish had reached the perfect size, he couldnât wait to call her, knowing her appreciation for fine food.
