Madisyn smiled faintly.

“I just see more than others. It’s not that big of a deal. But some variables are beyond my prediction, like Lilian. Luckily, the overall direction is right.”

Jared couldn’t deny that he was a little jealous of Madisyn’s brilliance. But then, he thought to himself that he wasn’t as skilled in fighting as Madisyn either and let the jealousy go.

If Madisyn weren’t so impressive, why would he ever accept her as his boss? It was natural for the boss to be more capable than the subordinates.

Jared looked at Madisyn, who stood as composed and elegant as the first time they’d met. A sense of respect and self-satisfaction filled his heart.

He comforted himself inwardly, thinking becoming the subordinate of someone as powerful as Madisyn was, in fact, a form of strength in itself.

On the top floor of the Klein Group building, Andrew was on the phone.

Once the person on the other end finished briefing him, he asked, “Mr. Klein, Miss Johns and Mr. Cooper of Homelight Enterprise seem very close. Should I investigate?”

“No need.” Andrew dismissed the suggestion without a second thought.

“Just finish your work. Don’t get involved in anything else.”

“Yes, sir.”

After hanging up, Andrew lowered his eyes to the files on his desk. Madisyn had mentioned she was going on a business trip, so he hadn’t pushed for details, assuming it was related to the Johns Group. But his people had reported the truth.

Andrew propped his chin up with both hands, his dark eyes thoughtful and distant.

He had noticed long ago how close Madisyn and Jared seemed, as though they’d known each other forever. But Madisyn had only just arrived in Ansport back then.

Homelight Enterprise was growing rapidly in Ansport, with a solid financial foundation. Andrew had long been aware of Jared’s background—his life was normal, with no apparent reason why he would’ve crossed paths with Madisyn.

Andrew felt he was missing something. But since Madisyn hadn’t told him, he wouldn’t resort to investigating further. However, if Jared ever did anything to harm Madisyn, Andrew would make sure he paid the price.

Just as his thoughts wandered, Madisyn’s call came.

“Baby, are you done with work?”

The video call connected, and Andrew noticed the background behind Madisyn—she was in a hotel.

“Yeah,” Madisyn nodded.

“I’ve been running around all day. I’m exhausted. Now I’m just resting, so I want to know what you’re up to.”

The coldness in Andrew’s handsome features softened into something tender.

“I’ve been working all day today.” Andrew’s voice sounded a little worn as he replied to Madisyn.

“Anything besides work?”

“I had dinner with a partner.”

“Nothing else?” Madisyn asked, sensing that Andrew had been pushing himself too hard today.
