Chapter 1165
Comeback Of The Adored Heiress
Chapter 1165:
Several department heads invited her to dinner, but she politely declined.
âI have an engagement, so I wonât be able to join you.â The place where she was meeting Andrew was only two streets away. She called her driver, asking him to take her assistant back to the office while she strolled there herself at a leisurely pace.
The evening rush was in full swing, with traffic bustling along the streets she walked. As she neared a small alleyway that led directly to her destination, Madisyn decided to take it, avoiding the congestion ahead. She turned and entered the alleyway.
The alley was remarkably clean, with occasional children whizzing by on bicycles. Just as she relaxed, thinking sheâd soon exit the alley, the shriek of car brakes pierced the air.
âAre you blind? Didnât you see my car coming?â The sound of a car door slamming echoed through the air, followed by the sharp scolding of a young man. His angry words were quickly drowned out by the cries of a child and the apologetic murmurs of an older man.
Madisyn frowned and turned toward the commotion. The young man, dressed in trendy clothes and facing away from her, was reprimanding an elderly man and a small child in front of a sleek BMW.
The elderly man, likely in his sixties, was helping the child who had fallen. The child, no older than three, caught Madisynâs attention as she squinted in their direction. From their distance to the BMW, it was clear the child wasnât crying from being hit, but from sheer fright.
This street, unlike the last, was quiet, with tall trees lining the road and few people around.
Madisyn was the only one who seemed to have noticed the situation. Based on the young manâs posture, it seemed heâd continue berating the elderly man and child unless someone intervened.
Madisyn pursed her lips and approached them.
âHey, itâs a blessing there was no accident. Theyâve apologized, so just let it go.â
âWhy should I let it go? Just because theyâre weaker?â The young man sneered at her words, his eyes narrowing as he turned toward her. His expression shifted when he recognized her.
Madisyn hadnât expected to see Austen again, and she was taken aback by how much heâd changed. The last time theyâd met, he had seemed like a handsome young man with a touch of youthful charm. Now, he appeared to have transformed into a vain nouveau riche.
For a moment, Madisyn was speechless, unsure of what to say. However, the sound of the elderly man trying to calm the child quickly snapped her back to the situation at hand.
She looked at Austen and said, âTraffic laws are clearâvehicles yield to pedestrians. You didnât even hit them. And after scolding them for so long, it seems like youâve already let out your anger.â Turning to the elderly man, she asked, âWhat happened here?â
The elderly man shook his head, still holding his grandson.
âWe were just walking, and I didnât see his car turning inâ¦â
Madisynâs frustration boiled over. She had assumed the elderly man and child were at fault, which had made Austenâs anger seem justified. But now, it was clear that Austen himself had been in the wrong.
