The Klein Group and Johns Group were located in opposite directions, so the couple parted ways at the crossroads with a final wave goodbye.

Upon reaching the office, Madisyn snapped into work mode. She promptly finished the previous night’s documents and sent them out. By afternoon, she had launched the first phase of her improvement plan.

In Madisyn’s mind, once an improvement plan was set in motion, it demanded immediate execution—there wasn’t a moment to waste.

This drive led her to work extended hours for several days straight. For efficiency’s sake, she even declined Andrew’s lunch invitations, choosing instead to eat at the company cafeteria.

At Klein Group’s CEO office, Malachi Robles, Andrew’s secretary, noticed Andrew’s demeanor growing increasingly frosty with each passing day. Gone were his requests to reserve restaurants for lunch with Madisyn, and he no longer made his usual trips to Johns Group to pick her up after work.

Employees from various departments observed Andrew reverting to his characteristically decisive and forceful management style during meetings. After one such meeting, several department heads lingered behind to corner Malachi.

“What happened to Mr. Klein? Did he and Miss Johns have a fight? He doesn’t even glance at his phone during meetings anymore.”

Malachi sensed something was amiss between Andrew and Madisyn, but Andrew didn’t act like he had had a fight with Madisyn. Something else was brewing beneath the surface.

Meeting the concerned gazes of his colleagues, Malachi offered diplomatically, “I’m not certain either, but focusing on work at a time like this is certainly the right approach. Let’s all maintain this momentum!”

Following Andrew into the office afterward, Malachi found his boss sitting at his desk, lost in thought.

He had to look twice—the files before Andrew remained unopened, his eyes fixed on their covers without actually seeing them. It was unlike Andrew to waste time staring at file folders.

After a moment’s hesitation, Malachi ventured carefully, “Mr. Klein, are you feeling unwell?”

Andrew lifted his gaze to meet Malachi’s. “Have you found yourself a girlfriend this year?” Malachi was speechless.

That was quite an abrupt change of subject, he thought.

Despite his internal protest, Malachi responded earnestly, “Mr. Klein, have you perhaps had a misunderstanding with Miss Johns? Though I’m single myself, I do understand a thing or two about relationships. Feel free to confide in me—I might be able to offer some perspective.”

Andrew met Malachi’s sincere gaze and intertwined his fingers as he slowly spoke. “There’s a slight issue.”

Malachi looked at him intently. “I’d like to hear more about it.”

Andrew sighed. “I haven’t done anything wrong, and neither has she, but it feels like the relationship between us isn’t the same as it was.”

Malachi’s eyes widened in surprise. “Mr. Klein, why do you think so? I thought you and Miss Johns were deeply in love.”
