Chapter 148
The CEO's Amazing Ex-Wife Is Back!
Chapter 148 +25 BONUS Krisâs good mood evaporated the moment he stepped out of the kitchen; Zeke hadnât left the house. And, to Krisâs further annoyance, he didnât look like he had any intention of leaving.
He was sitting in the living room beside Thalassa, and they were talking. Krisâs jaw clenched. To make matters worse, Thalassa was smiling. Krisâs chest tightened as jealousy reared its head.
He knew he should be happy to see that beautiful smile of hers, but it hurt that she was only smiling in Zekeâs presence even though with him, she was nothing but cold.
Swallowing the bitterness rising in his throat, he forced himself to walk to the dining table, knowing Thalassa wouldnât like it if he went to the living room.
A few minutes later, Luisa came out of the kitchen and announced, âBreakfast is ready. Kris, can you help me set the table?â
Nodding, Kris got up and helped her. Once they were done, Zeke and Thalassa moved to the table.
Kris could barely focus on his food as they ate. Zeke kept talking about something Kris didnât bother to listen to, and every time Thalassa looked at Zeke, responded, or smiled at something he said, Krisâs mood soured further.
He wanted to tell Zeke to have some manners and shut the fuck up while eating, but he couldnât risk Thalassa getting even more upset with him, so he bit his tongue.
After they were done and cleared the table together, Zeke announced. âI actually came by to help with the expansion issue you mentioned last week regarding the fashion house.â
âOh, right!â Luisa said. âI completely forgot we asked you about that. You two can start without me. Iâm going to take a quick shower and join you in the study afterward.â
Kris froze as the implication dawned on him. Zeke and Thalassa were going into the study together. Alone.
Seeing that they were about to go, he quickly spoke. âUh, which problem is that, Thalassa?â
For the first time that morning, she finally looked at him, but it wasnât with the same warmth with which sheâd looked at Zeke.
Swallowing, Kris quickly added. âPerhaps, I should go with you. Perhaps I can help you with something or give you advice that will help if you tell me what the problem is.
She stared at him. âWhat makes you think I need your help, Kris?â
Hearing the disdain in her voice, Zeke couldnât be more happy. It pleased him to see that Thalassa wasnât giving Kris any time of the day. He stepped forward confidently, his eyes mocking Kris.
âYes, Kris. What makes you think she needs your help when Iâm here? Believe me, youâre not a better businessman than me.â
Kris ground his teeth together, jealousy clawing at him as he watched them go and disappear into the study room.
Fuming, he walked to the living room and such on one of the questions where he could clearly see the door to the study.
Minutes ticked by. Krisâs mind raced with thoughts. What were they doing? What were they talking about? Was she still smiling at Zeke like earlier?
Zeke was probably taking advantage to sit extremely close to her. Kris didnât trust that guy one bit. He said he was waiting for Thalassa to heal first, but what if heâd said it to make Kris relax while he took advantage and snatched 1/2 Chapter 148 Thalassa from him?
+25 BONUS He looked up the stairs. What the hell was taking Luisa so long? Itâd been a solid twenty minutes now, so why wasnât she down yet? If she was inside the study too, it would ease his mind.
He shot to his feet, on the verge of barging towards the study even though he knew Thalassa wouldnât be pleased. Just then Luisa appeared, coming down the stairs. Kris let out a breath he didnât know he was holding âKris, whatâs the matter? You look... agitated.â Luisa observed with a frown as she approached the living room.
âOh, itâs nothing. I was just going to grab some water from the kitchen.â Kris forced a smile. âWhy donât you go to the study, Luisa? Thalassa must be waiting for you.â
âOh right. I took my time, didnât I?â Luisa chuckled before hurrying to the study.
Kris would like to say that he was relieved, but he felt far from it. Thalassa was obviously more welcoming of Zeke, and that scared him.
What if Zeke managed to convince her to give him a chance before Kris could? His stomach churned.
He couldnât allow that.
