Chapter 137
The CEO's Amazing Ex-Wife Is Back!
Chapter 137 +25 BONUS Clark knew he was cornered. There were three police cars and at least six officers in front of him, along with those idiotsâKris, Alden, Luisa, and Zeke.
His eyes darted around. If he could run around the house into the backyard, maybe he could scale the wall and escape. Before he could even take a step, one of the officers warned him.
âDonât even think about it, sir, or weâll be forced to shoot.â
Clark froze, knowing the officer wasnât bluffing. He would be an idiot to try and escape now. Even if he tried, his wounded thigh would keep him from getting far. He was fucked for now, but far from giving up.
Three officers came towards him, spreading out on each side of him until they finally got to him. Though he wasnât trying to resist, one of them swept his legs from under him, sending him crashing down on the hard, rocky pavement.
Pain shot through his thigh, but he bit back a cry, refusing to give them the satisfaction. He lay still as they cuffed his hands behind his back.
Once they were done manhandling him, the officers hauled him to his feet and began leading him toward one of the police cars.
He glared at Luisa as he limped on. Why couldnât she have just died? Why the fuck did she have to survive.
âDonât you dare fucking look at her, you bastard!â Alden spat, storming forward and slamming a fist into Clarkâs mouth. âHow dare you send those goons after her?â
An officer immediately held Alden back. âYou have no right to hit him, sir. You could be charged with assault.â
âAssault?â Zeke stepped forward, his voice hard with anger. âThat scumbag tried to have my sister killed! Heâs a criminal!â
âHeâs only a suspect,â the officer reminded him. âThe court decides whether heâs guilty or not.â
Though Alden and Zeke were the ones attacking him, Clark didnât look at them. His eyes were still burning with hate as he locked gazes with Kris.
âDonât think youâve won, Miller. Iâll bounce back.â
At that moment, the only thing Kris cared about was Thalassaâs safety. His nostrils flared as he glared back at Clark. âPray you didnât hurt Thalassa, because if you have, then jail would be too easy for you. I will kill you myself.â
âSir, you canât make threats in front of law enfor-â one of the officers started to speak but Kris didnât wait to hear the rest.
He stormed towards the house with Luisa, Alden, and Zeke along with two officers following. Getting to the porch, Luisa quickly locked the door.
âOh God,â she gasped when the door opened, revealing a trail of blood.
They rushed inside, but Kris was the fastest. Thalassa stood in the living room, her gun still raised. She lowered it when she saw that it was them.
Without hesitation, Kris cupped her face in his hands. Thalassa tensed as he gazed at her with his frantic eyes. â Lassa... are you okay? Did that bastard hurt you?â
He wanted to hug her but he didnât want to stain her dress with his blood. He was also afraid sheâd push him away.
1/3 +25 BONUS Chapter 137 However, she didnât step back from his touch as she responded.
âIâm fine. I was the one who shot him.â
âOh, Lassa, Iâm so glad youâre okay,â Luisa said, rushing rushing forward.
Kris reluctantly released Thalassa so her best friend could embrace her. Stepping back, he felt a wave of dizziness but forced himself to keep steady on his feet.
Thalassa noticed the blood that had soaked through his shirt from his sleeve to his chest, but before she could say anything, Luisa engulfed her in a hug.
Luisa breathed a sigh of relief. âWhen I called and you said Clark was already here, I was so scared he would hurt you,â
The two women hugged for several moments as the men watched. One man wished he was in Thalassaâs place, while two of them wished they were in Luisaâs.
âI hate to interrupt, but I have a few questions for you, miss,â one of the officers said, causing Thalassa and Luisa to break apart.
âDoes that gun belong to you, or is it Clark Morganâs?â the officer asked.
âItâs mine. Itâs registered.â
âEven if it wasnât registered, would it matter?â Kris snapped. âShe was the one attacked.â
âSir, I donât doubt this was selfâdefense. I just need to establish the facts to build a case,â the officer replied calmly. He turned back to Thalassa. âIâm sorry, but the gun is evidence and I have to take it with me.
Thalassa didnât protest. She handed the gun over, and the officer placed it in a plastic bag before sealing it. âItâll be returned after the investigation. Thanks for your cooperation. Iâll also need you to come to the station to give a statement, like the rest of your friends.â
Before leaving, the officer glanced at Krisâs blood soaked shirt. âYou really should get that checked out, sir.â
After the officers left, Thalassa turned to Kris. âWhat happened to you?â
âOne of the men who chased me was about to shoot me, but Kris pushed me out of the way and ended up getting shot in the shoulder,â Luisa explained.
Thalassaâs eyes widened. Sheâd noticed the blood on his shirt but assumed it was someone elseâs since Kris had showed no signs of pain. She stared at him.
âYou were shot and you still havenât gone to the hospital?â
For the first time, Kris saw an emotion in her eyes that he hadnât seen directed at him in a long timeâworry. His throat tightened with emotion.
âItâs not that bad. It doesnât even compare to the pain I wouldâve feel if that bastard had hurt you.â Kris assured her, but his voice had gotten weaker.
The police had insisted on calling an ambulance after arresting Clarkâs men, but Kris had refused. He barely felt the pain on the way there because his only concern had been Thalassa. But now that he knew she was fine, he was finally began to feel the effects.
Thalassa shook her head firmly. âYou need to get that bullet out, Kris. And look at how much blood youâve lost. I know you hate hospitals, but you have to go.â
âYouâre worried about me,â Kris couldnât help but point out as a small smile stretched his lips. âThatâs enough to 2/3 +25 BONUS Chapter 137 take the pain away.â
But even as he spoke, his vision blurred, and his legs wobbled. He tried to stay upright but Alden noticed the shift and asked, âKris, are you okay?â
âOf course I am. Itâs not... itâs not like I was shot in the head. Itâs just my shoulder andââ
The room spun. Kris tried to keep standing, to fight the wave of dizziness, but his body had endured the blood lost for too long.
His legs finally gave in, everything turning black.
