“If preparations are almost complete, why hasn’t he made his move yet?”

“What do you think?”

Betty’s eyes widened incredulously. “Because of Caroline?”

“Yeah, Caroline being here alone unsettles him.”

Betty laughed and said, “Kirk is already married. When is it going to be your turn?”

Sean quickly glossed over the subject and hung up when Betty started to urge him to consider marriage.

His phone immediately rang again after the call had ended.

Sean checked his phone and sighed in relief. It wasn’t a follow-up call from Betty, but rather a call from Kirk.

He answered the call. “Hey, you must be calling to ask about Caroline. She’s doing well now. She went out to seaside with my mom today.”

Kirk smiled. “Thanks.”

Sean responded, “No worries. After all, we’re best friends. When are you coming back?”

“It might take me a couple more days. There’s still a bit of unfinished business here.”

“Oh, I almost forgot. Adrian told me to let you know that he’s not giving up on Caroline, even if she’s not in the country. He says you better watch out.”

Kirk froze for a moment. “I’m heading back tomorrow.”

“I thought you needed two more days?”

“It’s not a big deal.” Kirk ended the call after that.

Sean shook his head in resignation. Was Kirk really that afraid of losing Caroline to Adrian?

Meanwhile, Yvonne, who had been driven off the beach, regained her composure after venting out her frustration. Suddenly, a thought struck her. She grabbed her phone and dialed a number.

“Look into a woman named Caroline Evans for me. Find out why she left the country all of a sudden.”

Yvonne proceeded to provide details about Caroline.

Just a few days ago, she had learned from Aurora that Caroline had been on the verge of marrying Eddy.

So she couldn’t help but find it strange that Caroline had shown up here all of a sudden.

Furthermore, Yvonne realized that Caroline’s expression during their conversation had been completely different from before.

It had been like Caroline was talking to a complete stranger. She couldn’t possibly have been pretending.

Her reactions had been too natural.

“Understood.”

“One more thing…

Yvonne collected her thoughts and asked, “Is Adrian back yet?”

“Yes, he is.”

Yvonne’s face lit up. She said in a honeyed voice, “That’s big news! Why didn’t you tell me about it earlier?”

The person on the other end of the line remained silent.

“When did he return? Is he at the office, or did he go home?” As she spoke, she started the car, heading out to find him.

Yvonne had pestered Adrian every day since she had gone abroad.

She had experienced a sense of emptiness when Adrian had gone back to the country. She hired a private detective to keep an eye on him because she was worried that he had gone back to the country for Caroline.

The detective replied, “Neither.”

Yvonne was puzzled. She replied, “Where else could he be going? It can’t be …”

Her eyes widened, and she clenched her fists when she heard the detective say, “He went to Yates Manor.
