“Kirk lied to Caroline. He’s at fault, and I joined hands with him to lie to you two. I was wrong,” he said.

She continued, “Thank goodness Kirk went in that day. Otherwise, I would have hated myself for the rest of my life.”

“Yeah.” Sean sounded grim.

“He’s probably at the boxing gym right now.”

Gwen sighed. “How did things come to this? Do you think it’s a good thing that Carol lost her memories now?”

Sean couldn’t answer. “Based on our understanding of her, she would surely marry Eddy out of spite after finding out that Kirk lied to her.

“We anticipated this, after all. At least she doesn’t know that Kirk lied to her for now.”

He continued, “In a way, it seems to be a good thing.”

Gwen smiled wryly, but it didn’t reach her eyes. It was as though her eyes had lost its luster.

“Do you think Carol will remember Kirk in the future then?”

Sean couldn’t give her an answer. They both fell silent as they stared up at the night sky.

A while later, Sean broke the silence. “Gwen, can we get back together?”

He subconsciously held his breath after posing the question.

With her phone in one hand, Gwen quirked an eyebrow.

A moment of silence passed, and she said, “Sean, you have to be frank with me. Is there anything else, that you’re hiding from me apart from Kirk’s identity?”

“No! I have absolutely nothing to hide from you!”
