Chapter 781
Bogus Billionaire
A shadow fell across Eddyâs face after he left Carolineâs room.
Sure enough, it was the same as before. She resisted him from the bottom of her heart.
Otherwise, she would have happily agreed to marry him since she had forgotten Kirk.
Uncle Kirk. Eddy couldnât stop himself from clenching his fists at the thought of him. Caroline had forgotten all about him. Yet â¦
Eddy raised his fist and was about to punch a hole in the wall when he spotted a car parked on the ground floor.
The Morrisons had dozens of luxury cars. Naturally, he couldnât recognize all of them, but this one right there⦠they definitely didnât own a car like this.
The corners of Eddyâs mouth tilted upward in a smile, and he gradually made his way downstairs to the car.
When he reached the car, he saw the person inside. It was Kirk, just as he had expected.
âUncle Kirk!â chirped Eddy as he rapped on the car window.
The window rolled down, and he saw Kirkâs bleak face staring back at him.
It was obvious from the bags under Kirkâs eyes that he hadnât rested well for a couple of days.
It was Eddyâs first time seeing such a dejected and dispirited side of Kirk.
For some reason, a wave of guilt washed over him. It was as if he had stolen a beloved item of Kirkâs.
Kirk took a glance at him and continued downing a bottle of wine, his eyes cold.
Eddy watched him gulp down a mouthful of the drink and said, âUncle Kirk, donât be so upset. Things have only returned to how they were supposed to be now.â
He added, âCarolineâs been my fiancée since the beginning-â
He had barely finished his sentence when Kirk yanked his necktie.
The force behind it was so immense that Eddy, who hadnât anticipated the sudden move, stumbled forward, his face just inches/away from Kirkâs.
Staring at Kirkâs side profile from such a close distance, Eddy subconsciously held his breath in fear.
Uncle Kirk-â
2. 2.
âEddy,â said Kirk, his piercing eyes staring right into Eddyâs like a Grim Reaperâs.
âListen up. Iâm only temporarily letting Caroline stay at your place.â
âOne day, sheâll remember everything,â Kirk said.
âAnd sheâll get over your grandfatherâs death. By then, she and I will be together again.â
Eddy exhaled slowly and forced a smile. âHow are you so sure that sheâll remember all that? What if she doesnât regain those memories for the rest of her life? Sheâll be with me-â
Eddyâs words were cut short because his necktie was yanked with such force that he couldnât utter another word.
âUâuncle Kâkirk-â
âCaroline will remember me!â Kirk narrowed his eyes and glowered at Eddy. It seemed like he was warning Eddy and also as if he was talking to himself.
The suffocating air of doom Kirk emanated snuffed out Eddyâs courage to talk back. He didnât have the guts to say more.
âUncle Kirk ⦠L-let go of me-â
Kirk cooly shoved Eddy away after the latter begged for mercy over and over again.
After steadying himself, Eddy glanced at the second floor where Caroline was staying.
He turned to Kirk and yelled, âJust give up! Caroline will never remember who you are! Besides, she and I are getting married soon!â
That said, he darted back into the house, fearing that Kirk would come after him. Once he reached the door, Eddy even ordered the housekeepers to shut the gates.
To his surprise, Kirk didnât come after him and merely stayed in the same spot. His posture remained just as before.
It was as if he still hadnât snapped back into reality after hearing those words. Eddy started questioning if he had gone overboard.
