Caroline could finally confirm that she had heard it right. But it was weird. She didn’t feel overjoyed at all.

This was supposed to be something that she had been looking forward to the most, after all.

“What’s wrong?” Eddy’s heart leaped to his throat when he saw Caroline keeping silent.

“It’s nothing.” Caroline shook her head.

“Then… Are you willing to go home with me?” Eddy asked again.

Caroline nodded.

However, she didn’t feel happy at all.

Perhaps it was because Eddy had kept rejecting her. Thus, she felt surreal when he finally did as she wished.

However, the feeling didn’t fade, even when she moved into Morrison Manor after getting discharged.

As she lay on the soft bed that Eddy had specially arranged for her, Caroline still couldn’t feel an ounce of happiness.

This was supposed to be the life that she dreamed of.

Caroline suddenly thought of Mr. Y.

She decided to call the number hesitantly.

The call was answered almost immediately. It was as if he had been waiting for her to call.

“Is this Mr. Y?” Caroline hugged her thighs, trying hard to get a little warmth by doing so.

A deep yet powerful voice soon sounded from the end of the line. “Yes.”

Although it was just a simple word, Caroline found herself relaxing.

“Do … Do you have time right now?” Caroline asked carefully. She was scared that she had disturbed him with her sudden call.

“I always have time for you.” His voice was a bit hoarse as he answered.

However, Caroline didn’t capture the meaning behind his words. She let out a sigh of relief. “Can I rant about something with you?”

“Of course, you can.”

Hugging her thighs tighter, Caroline realized she didn’t know how to start. She finally found the right words after a while. “I’m now living with my fiancé.”

Kirk felt as if his heart had been pierced by something sharp.

When he heard Caroline gently continue, he felt his heart get pierced again. “This is something I’ve been dreaming of.”

This time, the knife had pierced into the depths of his heart. It felt like his heart was bleeding.

“So…”

“But I’m not happy at all,” Caroline continued in confusion.

“I thought I would be happy to be with him. After all, this is something I’ve been looking forward to for eight years.”

Kirk’s heart was once again resurrected by her words.

“You’re confused because you don’t know why you’re unhappy. Am I right?”

“That’s right.” Caroline seemed to have found someone who understood her.

“Mr. Y, do you know why? Honestly, do you think I’m someone who plays around and doesn’t cherish something after getting it?”

“No way,” Kirk immediately denied.

“You’re definitely not someone like that.”

He had answered so quickly that Caroline noticed something was off. “Mr. Y?”

Kirk seemed very emotional. The way he had stood up to protect her was just like a fan defending their idol.

“Do… Do you know me?”

“No. I don’t know you.” His denial came as fast as his defense just now.
