Chapter 733
Bogus Billionaire
Unfortunately, no one answered the call. In haste, Layla remembered that someone must be working at the bank right now, so she quickly called the bank.
Her call was answered almost immediately. âWhereâs Mr. Donovan? Pass him the phone right now!
How could something like this happen? The man must have a death wish.
The staff member on the other end of the line sounded confused. âMr. Donovan? Nobody here goes by that name.â
âWhat?â Layla roared into the phone.
âDoes he think he can hide for all eternity? Tell him that Iâll fire him if he doesnât answer my call!â
The staff member was flabbergasted. Still, he replied, âMiss, thereâs no âMr. Donovanâ here.â
âOh right.â He seemed to remember something.
âThe former chairmanâs surname is Donovan, but heâs been sacked. Just call his number if you have any other questions.â
With that said, the staff member hung up, leaving Layla staring blankly into space.
A while later, a thought occurred to her, and she picked up her phone to call Eddy.
When the call went through, she seemed to have forgotten where she was and who she was surrounded by.
Weeping, she said, âEddy, didnât you say that you would hand Collins Group over to me? How come itâs in Carolineâs hands now?
âShe caused your grandpaâs death, yet nobody punished her for it.â Layla continued.
âAnd now sheâs taken over Collins Group. How is this fair? This isnât fair! This isnât fair at all!â
âEddy,â she pleaded.
âYouâve got to help me and take revenge for me!â
However, Layla wasnât aware of the fact that Eddy hadnât listened to a single word that she had The only thing on his mind right now was the bankâs announcement. Just a few days ago, a mysterious person had appeared out of nowhere and purchased the entire bank.
Eddy had a hunch that said person was his second uncle.
To test his hypothesis, he had agreed to sell the bank off. Now, the bank had made its announcement, proving that he was right.
All of his guesses were correct! Carolineâs husband was his second uncle. It was true! All of it was true!
Eddyâs hands balled into fists. He couldnât make himself believe that his second uncleâthe person he once admired the mostâwas married to Caroline.
How had this happened? How could Kirk marry Caroline?
Even if Eddy himself disliked her, Kirk shouldnât have married her. What was more-
âEddy!â Laylaâs piercing voice came from the other end of the line, pulling him out of his thoughts.
âAre you even listening? I donât care who decided to hand Collins Group over to Caroline. You have to fire the person behind this!â
âWhat if I say that the one youâre talking about is me?â Eddy spat, his expression icy.
Layla froze. She couldnât believe it.
âNo way. You told me that you would help me become the Collins Groupâs new owner,â she muttered.
âYou wouldnât do something like that to me, right?â
âI said that I would help you, but I never promised to make you that companyâs owner,â Eddy replied as he stared right ahead, âLayla, you saved my life once, and Iâve helped you over and over again because of that.
âThis is the final time Iâm helping you. You have to depend on yourself from now on.â
âNo!â Layla screeched.
âHow could you do this to me? How could you be so cruel?
âHave you forgotten how I had saved you so selflessly back then? How could you-â
Glancing down at his phone, Eddy said, âI can help you find a match if youâre thinking of marrying someone and living a good life afterward.â
He continued, âI can also help you if you want to start a small business or need a sum of money for it.
âJust know that I will never see you again.â
âNo-â
âIâll marry Caroline. It was Grandpaâs dying wish,â he said.
âIâll take good care of her, love her with all my heart, and start a family with her.â
His words stabbed Laylaâs heart. Hearing those words from him made her feel worse than it would if she were to take her own life.
