Chapter 706
Bogus Billionaire
Kirk continued, âCarrie, youâre the kindest person in the world. All you want is a home of your own, but God has put up so many barriers between you and that tiny wish. Do you think youâre the one being selfish, or is it God whoâs being cruel?â
Carolineâs tears kept falling out of her control.
âKirk, stop talkingâ¦â If he kept going, Caroline would feel she didnât deserve him even more, someone who understood her so well.
Kirk gave a light laugh and tweaked Carolineâs nose. He waited until she stabilized her emotions before speaking, âDarling, next time, you should tell me if you have any problems. You should think about yourself more. You have to put yourself first, not me. Understand?â
Caroline nodded.
âThen would you ⦠worry that I might leave you?â Caroline had never said this because she was worried Kirk might overthink it.
âNo.â Kirk kissed Carolineâs fingers. âWe will never part.
Finally, a smile appeared on Carolineâs face.
âYou talked about a psychiatristâ¦â Caroline wiped the tears from her face. âWhatâs that about?â
âYou need to undergo drug or physical treatment. Either of those would involve some measure of pain.â
Each word Kirk said felt like a hammer swinging at his heart. âDarling This was the last thing he wanted for Caroline. That was why heâd always asked Michael to do his best to treat Carolineâs issues painlessly. Now, it seemed that his reluctance to hurt Caroline had caused her more suffering. It had made her condition worse.
Even though there was a rational voice telling him that letting Caroline go through the treatment was the best way forward, he still couldnât set his heart on that path. He couldnât bear to her Caroline hurt.
Caroline guessed what Kirk was worried about. Smiling, she said, âItâs alright. Iâm willing to go through the treatment. As long as I donât have to leave you, I can handle whatever painful treatment it is.â
For all she knew, it might even lessen her feelings of having sinned.
Kirk held onto Carolineâs hand tightly. The two of them looked at each other in silence. Neither of them spoke, but nothing needed to be said with words anymore.
After a whole halfâhour, Caroline remembered that there were people outside the bedroom door She wiped the tears on her face. âKirk, Gwen and Sean are still outside Letâs let them in. We donât want them to worry.â
Kirk nodded. He got up to open the door.
Seeing the door finally open, Gwen was the first to stride inside. She clutched Carolineâs hand and said, âCarrie â¦â
Caroline smiled at her. âIâve decided to seek treatment.â
Hearing Caroline say this so calmly, Gwen felt her heart twist. Tears began to fall. âCarolâ¦â
âDonât be like that. Iâll make it through this.â
Caroline gave Gwen a big hug, making Gwen feel even worse inside. Sometimes, she felt Caroline was just too kind, like what had happened with Judeâs death.
No one wanted such a tragedy to happen, and Howard was the one at fault. Yet, the person who had suffered the consequences was Caroline. What kind of divine justice was this?
Gwen got angry the more she thought about it. She held Caroline even harder. In the end, Caroline had to comfort Gwen instead.
Seeing the two women hugging each other so tightly, Sean looked at Kirk, whose gaze was very grim. He patted Kirkâs shoulder and said, âKirk, I have something to say to you.â
As he said this, he headed out of the bedroom.
Kirk shot another glance at Caroline before following him.
