Chapter 700

Caroline felt like she had lost something very important to her.

“Alright then,” Caroline said. “Then let’s see each other tonight.”

“Great.”

After Marietta ended the call, Caroline put her phone down dejectedly. Actually, she had gotten the feeling long ago that Marietta would leave Easton. She never expected her to leave so soon.

She sent Kirk a message and immediately got a reply. His text made Caroline frown in pain.

The scene of Jude before he died floated in her mind. Grandpa had died because of her.

She had been haunted by this all this while. This and Jude’s final wish were etched deeply in Caroline’s heart.

If she and Kirk weren’t together, she definitely would have gone along with Jude’s dying wish and married Eddy. It didn’t matter to her if she lived the rest of her life like a puppet on a string.

However, she now had Kirk, and there was no way she was going to abandon him. It wouldn’t be fair to Kirk.

Once again, Caroline let out a deep sigh.

Even if… Even if she had to endure the pain of nightly nightmares, she would stay by Kirk’s side.

She would do anything to make it up to him, but she couldn’t abandon Kirk.

Caroline looked up.

In the afternoon, after getting off work, Caroline went downstairs and noticed Jack’s car parked by the entrance. Without thinking about it, she knew that Kirk had to be in there.

Opening the car door, Caroline found Kirk in the car.

“Have you been waiting long?” Caroline took a seat in the car, doing her best to pretend that nothing had happened.

However, Kirk immediately saw that Caroline was feeling down.

“We just got here. What is it?” Kirk took Caroline’s hand in his own. “Is work giving you trouble?”

“No.”

“Then why are you feeling so down?”

“I’m not.” Having been seen through by Kirk, Caroline immediately looked away, trying to hide her emotions but showcasing them instead. “Mom’s going to leave soon. I’m going to miss her.”

It was true that she was feeling dejected in part because of this.

Kirk didn’t suspect anything. “If you want to see her, I can go with you.”

Caroline lay her head on Kirk’s shoulder. “Alright.”

They were quiet during the car ride. Soon, they arrived at the restaurant. They were led to the huge private room Marietta had reserved.

When they pushed the door open and went inside, the room fell silent. Three people looked at Caroline and Kirk.

Both Aurora’s and Yvonne’s eyes lit up when they saw Kirk.

“You’re here. Quick, come in,” Marietta called out to Caroline.

Caroline walked in, holding Kirk’s hand. Meanwhile, Aurora and Yvonne were still staring at Kirk.

Unsettled by this, Caroline coughed. “Mom.”

“Is this your… husband?” Yvonne asked. Suddenly, she understood why Caroline would rather stay with this broke bum than get with Eddy.

While Eddy was rich beyond measure, he wasn’t as blessed in the looks department. On a scale of 100, Eddy could easily get 98 points when it came to looks. However, the man before them now could get 1000 points.

Besides, it wasn’t just his looks. His bearing was also astounding. Yvonne thought about shifting her interest somewhere else.
