“No wonder Eddy has allowed Layla to do whatever she wants all these years. So it’s because of this,” Gwen continued. “Even so, he shouldn’t be so cruel to you just because Layla saved him.”

Gwen always remembered how Eddy treated Caroline in those eight years. Plus, there was the matter of Layla faking her illness and wanting Caroline’s kidneys.

Cheryl asked worriedly, “Now that Mr. Eddy is getting involved in this personally, does this mean the Collins Group will end up in Layla’s hands? She must still hate us after we caused the Evanson Corporation’s failure last time. The first thing she’ll do after getting the Collins Group will be to take revenge on the Evans Group.”

Things would be totally different then. In the past, the Evanson Corporation was just a small entity. With the Collins Group in her possession, Layla would have a lot of power. If she wanted it, squashing a business she disliked would be as easy as squashing an ant.

Caroline had yet to tell anyone that Eddy’s second uncle was going to sponsor her. But even with his support, she didn’t dare act recklessly and think that she could definitely obtain the Collins Group. That was why she didn’t think it was necessary to announce this news.

“Things will work out for the best,” Caroline said, comforting Cheryl. “Things aren’t set in stone yet. The bank still needs to approve the request. If the bank rejects it, then it doesn’t matter who’s endorsing whom.”

That was the only way Cheryl could make herself feel better. However, she was still plagued with unease, worried that Layla would one day do something to cause trouble for the Evans Group.

At the Hackett residence, Aurora brought a bowl of chicken soup to Yvonne’s room. She knocked on the door before heading in.

Noticing Aurora standing there, Yvotte was so angry that she picked up a pillow and threw it at her “Get out! You’d better get out!”

She was very aware that Aurora was there to see how wretched she was.

Aurora ducked to avoid the pillow flying at her. Tauntingly, she said, “Do you think hiding out in your room will solve the problem and make you the Hackett family’s rightful heiress?”

Yvonne’s eyes widened as she glared at Aurora. “I don’t need you to get involved in my business Aurora chuckled. “Indeed, I don’t want to get involved in your business. I’m only here to see you because we were once romantic rivals.”

Yvonne didn’t believe it. She turned her back on Aurora and said, “You’d better get out now!”

“Do you know what Mom and Dad did today?”

Yvonne spun around. She stared at Aurora, astonished. For a moment, she forgot to retort that Aurora wasn’t going to be her parents‘ daughter–in–law.

“They did another DNA test. The results show you’re definitely not their daughter. Although they’re not sure what happened, Mom and Dad have already gotten a private investigator to dig things up on you.

“Yvonne, you can be as stubborn as you want and try to stick things out here. But have you thought about how badly things will go for you once they find their actual daughter?”

Yvonne’s body shook.

“You’d better think it through. As a renowned playwright, Marietta Weiss might not have riches comparable to that of the Hackett family, but she only has one daughter–you. When she passes on, all her assets will go to you. Are you really unwilling to return to her?”

With that, Yvonne stopped crying.

Seeing this, Aurora continued, “Besides, if you acknowledge Marietta Weiss as your mother, your identity and position in life will change.

“Now, you’re only the heiress of the Hackett family. But once you become Marietta’s daughter, you’ll be able to use all her connections. Yvonne, do you think Adrian will look down on you then?”
