Chapter 687
Bogus Billionaire
âSay no more, Layla will definitely win! Eddy will surely help Layla. He even helped her with Evanson Corp. He didnât say a word when she failed to manage it and gained some backlash. Instead, he helped her out of the mess!â
âI am aware of this as well. Itâs precisely why I think Eddy will help her take over the Collins Group.â
âThatâs bullshit! That was in the past. Eddy doesnât even want to talk to Layla anymore. Otherwise, she wouldâve been long out of prison.â
âIf you donât have pictures of it, you canât prove it. If Layla reads this, she could sue you for defamation.â
âHilarious! Do you think she can view these posts now? If you know nothing about this, just keep your mouth shut. At Jude Morrisonâs funeral, it was obvious who was supporting who.â
âCaroline was in charge of all the preparations for his funeral. Isnât the problem clear enough?â âWhat did I just read? Caroline took it upon herself to make the preparations for the funeral. Wow! Doesnât this mean that the Morrisons have acknowledged her as family already?â
âI feel the same way. Even though Eddy and Layla kept appearing publicly together itâs in the past now.â
âThatâs enough. It was just a funeral. Maybe it was Judeâs dying wish, and Eddy was forced to oblige.
You sure enjoy overthinking, donât you? Donât forget that Carolineâs married now.â
âCaroline doesnât stand a chance to be a Morrison. Do you really think the Morrisons would accept a once married woman as their daughterâinâlaw?â
Things were chaotic online. Yet, Caroline and Marietta were having a ball on their trip together.
As their trip came to an end, Marietta hesitated to let go of Carolineâs hands. Thanks for keeping me company today, Carrie. I feel much better now.â
âHavenât I said before that you donât need to thank me?â said Caroline. âCome and look for me if you ever feel upset. I have lots of time on my hands, anyways.â
âIs that so?â Marietta smiled. âWhat about the homework I assigned you last time?â She was talking about the unfinished script that she had asked Caroline to carry on writing.
âThat goes without saying. I even wrote more than you asked me to,â said Caroline. âIll show it to you when weâre back.â
âOkay.â
Suddenly Kirk chose to speak. âCan we leave now?â His tone made it obvious that he was very much displeased Marietta laughed. âKirk, youâre doing it wrong. I was simply speaking to Caroline, yet youâre already upset. Should I be mad at you for keeping her by your side all day long then?â
âMom!â Caroline exclaimed.
âI was only joking with him, but youâre already coming to his defense.â Marietta just wouldnât stop teasing them both. âIt seems to me that nobody will ever love me.â
They continued chatting on their way back home. When they arrived, Caroline still couldnât stop worrying about leaving Marietta alone. She asked Marietta to spend the night at her and Kirkâs place.
âI can show you my script.â Caroline pulled at Mariettaâs hand to stop her from leaving. âWill you go upstairs?â
Marietta grinned from ear to ear. âIâm afraid someone wouldnât want me to stay.â Her gaze fell on Kirk.
Kirk undoubtedly didnât want Marietta to spend the night at their place. However, he knew all too well just how worried Caroline was for her.
âLetâs go,â he said as he held the elevator doors open for Marietta, who tried to hide a smile.
If she didnât see it for herself, she would never have believed that Kirk would ever give in to somebody.
Caroline had truly changed him.
When they reached the house, Caroline led Marietta into the study. Kirk sat on the couch to look over some documents.
He had to be discreet and inconspicuous whenever he wanted to work, as he had told Caroline that heâd already resigned. When she was nearby, he would switch tabs on his laptop. It appeared as though he was playing games.
Having lived like this awhile, Kirk somehow found it quite enjoyable. Sean teased him when he learned of his working condition at home. He commented that Kirk was now the exact opposite of a workaholic.
