Chapter 678
Bogus Billionaire
Caroline frowned at Eddyâs words. He was insane.
The fact that Layla was his savior didnât have anything to do with whether she remembered the past.
âSo is that why youâll indulge her unconditionally, even if she almost killed me? You did that just because she had saved you once?â
Eddy looked at Caroline questioningly. âDo you really not remember what happened when we were children?â
Caroline asked, âWhat?â
âIâm talking about the time when we were kidnapped.â
Then, Eddy recounted precisely what had happened more than a decade ago. After speaking, he looked at Caroline expectantly, hoping to see some changes in her expression.
However, his expectations were dashed.
Caroline shook her head. âI have zero recollection of that incident.â
âYou must have shut those memories away. Grandpa said that you went abroad after that incident.
Several vague fragments of her memories crossed Carolineâs mind. She tried to focus on them, but she couldnât recall anything. âBut I remember leaving the country because of you.â
At that time, Sarah had constantly nagged her about how she had to be a bride suited for Eddy. So sheâd had to leave the country to get a better education and become a better daughterâinâlaw for the Morrisons.
âDid you remember it wrongly?â Eddy was silent for a moment. Then, a look of realization appeared on his face.
âItâs not that you forgot about the incident or shut those memories away. Instead, someone must have tampered with your memory.
âYou went abroad because of the kidnapping incident. Grandpa said you needed psychological support.â
âPsychological support?â Some more memories crossed Carolineâs mind, but they were clear as day this time.
She had been around six years old back then. One day, Sarah had taken her to a doctor, and Caroline had even pronounced the word âpsychiatristâ perfectly.
Sarah had praised her intelligence. She had been really gentle back then, completely different from how she was now.
Caroline pulled away from her thoughts and raised her head. She asked, âCan you tell me what happened again?â
She didnât believe that memories could go missing out of the blue. There had to be a reason for this.
Eddy was about to start talking, but Caroline stopped him. âHang on, let me use a voice recorder.â
He waited for Caroline to turn on the voice recorder before recounting what had happened more than a decade ago.
By the time he was done, it had been over an hour. He had added many details to jog Carolineâs memory.
âOkay, Iâll listen to this story again after I get home. Iâll see if I can get back the memories Iâve lost.
âIt was clear that Caroline was done with this conversation.
Eddy frowned, feeling as if she were throwing him away after using him. But Caroline had already lowered her head and started to work.
Eddy stood up in resignation. But after taking a few steps, he remembered the actual reason he had visited Caroline.
He turned around and asked, âCaroline, do you know that Collins Group is about to be auctioned?â
Caroline looked up at Eddy silently, waiting for him to continue.
However, Eddy couldnât say what he truly felt. He said in a roundabout way, âWhoever gets Collins Group will also be able to join the big four families.
Caroline blinked at his words. âWhat are you trying to say?â
Eddy looked into Carolineâs eyes. After some hesitation, he asked helplessly, âDonât you want to take over Collins Group?â
