Chapter 657
Bogus Billionaire
âCarol, whatâs up with you?â Gwen nudged Carolineâs arm.
Caroline came back to herself in a daze and looked down at Jude in his casket. His eyes were tightly shut, not open, which finally made her realize that she had been mistaken just now.
âCarol?â Gwen called again softly. âAre you alright? Why does your face look so pale?â
Caroline shook her head. Her bad sleep the past couple of nights had probably caused her to see things.
âLetâs go.â
The next guest had come forward to place their flower.
Caroline nodded and followed Gwen back to their seats.
After the flower portion of the ceremony, Thomas came up to say a few words, bidding Jude farewell.
Gwen used this opportunity to ask Caroline lowly, âWhy canât I see Eddyâs second uncle? Isnât he coming?â
Looking around, Caroline said, âMr. Zellen said that he had called to say he would attend.â
âBut why donât I see him?â
Those who were attending the funeral today were rich and powerful. Most of them were people Gwen knew.
Of the few people she didnât recognize, all of them lacked the bearing that Eddyâs second uncle should have.
After all, that man controlled Sarcoziaâs economy.
Caroline looked around but didnât see him either.
âI suppose he must be rushing back from overseas and needs time to get here.â
As the two spoke, Gwenâs elbow suddenly poked into Caroline. âIsnât that Asherâs girlfriend, Aurora Jenner?
âIâve noticed her looking at you a few times. Does she have some sort of grudge against you?â
Caroline followed Gwenâs gaze and indeed found Aurora looking at her. The womanâs gaze held three parts disdain, three parts animosity, and several parts amusement, as if she were looking at a joke.
Shifting her gaze away, Caroline said blandly, âShe must still hate me because I said a few words against her last time.â
â1 âWhat? Then will she get Asher to take revenge on you? I heard that he quite likes her and would give her anything she desires. To put it simply, heâs a simp.â
Caroline replied, âI donât think so. I only said a few words.â
Gwen didnât feel relieved by that. âI think you should be more careful. Sheâs not someone whoâs easy to deal with.â
In response, Caroline nodded.
Right then, one of the staff members rushed to Thomasâ side and whispered in his ear. With that, Thomas showed a disbelieving expression and said, âReally?â
âReally. Thatâs what the person said.â
Thomas replied, âI understand. Where is he now?â
âHeâs at the door.â
Seeing Thomasâ speech get interrupted, Eddy stood up and asked, âDad, whatâs going on?â
âYour second uncleâs here.â Thomas walked toward the exit as he spoke.
Eddy rushed to follow. When he passed Caroline by, he intentionally turned back for a look.
When the others heard what Thomas said, they quickly stood up and looked toward the door.
Excited, Gwen also turned back to look. âCarol, I didnât expect Eddyâs second uncle to really come here. I wonder if weâll be able to see his face this time. Iâm really curious.
As she spoke, the smile on her face suddenly froze. She looked at the person who walked in and felt as if she had been turned to stone.
Caroline blinked, confused, as she looked at the person coming closer. It was Sean.
âHow â¦â She raised her hand and pointed at Sean.
By then, Sean had already followed behind Thomas to stand before Jude. He placed a flower in Judeâs coffin.
