Chapter 649
Bogus Billionaire
Caroline only answered the call once she got outside. âHave you gotten home?â
âYes.â
Caroline stole a glance behind her. âI just got here.â
âDarling.â
âYes?â
âI miss you.â
In response, Caroline blushed. âIâll be home very soon.â
âRemember that you said that.â Kirkâs voice suddenly became stern. âYou canât go back on your word.â
Exasperated, Caroline didnât know if she should laugh or cry. âWhatâs going on with you? Why are you making it sound like I wonât go home after coming here?â
Kirk replied, âIâm afraidâ¦â
âWhat are you afraid of?â Caroline didnât get it. Also, this was the first time she heard Kirk say he was scared, wasnât it?
On the other end of the line, Kirk was silent for a while. Then, he laughed a bit as he said, âDarling, you know the way back, right?â
âOf course I do.â
The smile on Carolineâs face faltered. She felt like Kirk knew something.
âDonât worry. Iâll go home as soon as I finish things up here, because I miss you too.â
Kirk didnât give any response. The two of them held onto their phones, listening to each otherâs breath and basking in each otherâs presence through the line.
After a very long while, Caroline straightened and glanced at Eddy, who was curiously looking over from the living room.
She couldnât bear to part with Kirk, but she said, âIâm going to get to work here. You take good care After Kirk responded in the affirmative, Caroline finally ended the call.
A bit later, Caroline went back into the living room.
Eddy was still in his previous stance, looking taken aback.
Caroline called his name, but he didnât react at all. Because of that, she had no choice but to wave a hand in front of him.
This made Eddy come back to earth. However, his gaze was still stricken. He looked as if he had been hit by lightning.
Caroline frowned. âEddy, whatâs going on with you?â
Had he been struck dumb?
Eddy looked at Caroline dazedly. After a moment, he muttered, âTâThat ⦠KâKirk ⦠Mo-â
Even after a long while of patient waiting, Caroline found that Eddy was still in a state of astonishment.
Thus, she said, âFrom the looks of it, you should be fine. If so, Iâll go and settle the seating arrangements.â
With that, Caroline went off to see Simon.
Meanwhile, Eddy was left alone, still stuck in his flabbergasted state. He was unable to move on from his shock.
Caroline managed to find Simon and asked him to give her the list of invited guests.
Simon looked behind Caroline and found no trace of Eddy. Thus, he asked, âWhereâs Mr. Eddy?â
Caroline responded, âHeâs ⦠in the living room.â
âIâll go check on him,â Simon said.
âAlright.â
Nodding, Caroline lowered her head and went back to the guest list in her hand.
Simon walked over to the living room. When he got there, he found Eddy still sitting there like a fool, looking like his soul had been sucked out of his body.
âMr. Eddy, what happened to you?â
Eddy slowly raised his head to look at Simon. After a long moment, a weak sound escaped his throat.
âMr. Zellen, I saw a caller ID on Carolineâs just now. It was⦠my second uncleâs name. When did they get to know each other? How come I donât know about it at all?â
Simon was even more affected by this news than Eddy. âWas it really your second uncle?â Eddyâs gaze fell on Simon.
