Chapter 554
Bogus Billionaire
Judeâs expression changed as he sat up straight. âOh? Are these two incidents related?â
âAfter Brie lost her mind, the Collins family has been wanting to make a move against Caroline to avenge her. I also only found out about this inadvertently.
âBack then, she was on the outs with her family. I was worried that she wouldnât be able to handle it since she was a woman all on her own.
âThatâs why I partnered with Collins Group. It was with the condition to let Caroline off.â
Jude kept staring into Kirkâs eyes as he said, âCan I ask why you did that?â
Kirk was also looking at Jude, no longer avoiding him. He admitted it straightforwardly, saying, Of course. I did that because I like Caroline.â
At these words, Judeâs expression shifted drastically. He inhaled deeply and said, âYouâre finally admitting it.â
Kirk replied, âI have nothing to admit to.â
âBut sheâsâ¦â
â
In the front passenger seat, Eddy didnât notice that there was a disagreement going on in the back.
He turned his head to look at the older men and said with a smile, âDidnât I say it before? Caroline is great with the older generation.â
Î Jude looked at his thoughtless grandson and suddenly felt like he couldnât keep going. He lowered his voice and asked, âThen whatâs the situation with Ms. Dawson?â
âUncle Jude, Iâve already said that all she needs to do is what sheâs supposed to do as my wife.â
Jude whipped his head up to look at Kirk. âSo you mean that, to you, Ms. Dawson only helps to deal with your marriage problem?â
Kirk didnât keep looking at Jude. He answered, âYes.â
âBut youâre married!â
Though Judeâs words were simple, they carried a deeper meaning.
But Kirk didnât fall for the trap. He said blandly, âWe are married. But we can always get divorced.â
âYou want to marry.
someone else?â Jude was holding back his anger as he looked at Eddy up front.
âYes.â
âEven if sheâs already married?â
âYes.â
Jude gripped his walking stick tightly. âWhen did you start getting that desire?â
Kirk didnât answer immediately. After a moment of silence, he said, âI donât remember anymore.â
Eddy was totally confused as he listened to this conversation. He turned to look at the two curiously.
âUncle Kirk, Grandpa, what are you talking about? Why donât I understand any of it?â
Jude glanced at him for a second before turning to look out the window in a huff.
Kirk only gave Eddy a slight smile, not explaining anything at all.
The atmosphere in the car slowly became quite strange. The three of them remained this way until they arrived at Morrison Manor.
Kirk said, âUncle Jude, weâve arrived.â
Jude gripped his walking stick and remained silent for a moment. Then, he said to Eddy, âEddy, you get off first.â
Not understanding what Jude wanted to do, Eddy nodded. âAlright.â
After Eddy got out of the car, Jude angled himself toward Kirk and said, âKirk, you cannot be with Caroline!â
âUncle Jude, no one can interfere in my life.â Kirk leaned into the back of his seat, looking lazy.
Jude lifted his walking stick and tapped it lightly several times before he managed to control his churning rage.
âKirk, Caroline is speciál to me. Besides, she grew up with Eddy. Although she went overseas for a long time, she had always been with Eddy besides that.â
He continued, âAlthough she is married now and is away from Eddy, sheâs like a bird trapped in a golden cage. She craved freedom. Now that sheâs gotten out, sheâs drawn by the new world sheâs found.
âBut later, she will realize that staying in the cage and being cared for is a much more comfortable life.
âIn the end, she will fly back into the cage. After all, thatâs where she spent most of her life. Thatâs where itâs most homey.â
Kirkâs gaze darkened as he stayed quiet.
