Chapter 537

“Are you sure it’s fine?” Caroline nudged Kirk’s arm.

He smiled. “Yep,” he said.

“But that person’s been trying to call you for so long. Maybe it’s something urgent?”

“No.” Kirk’s tone was cool.

Caroline didn’t look away from him, though. Her gaze fell on Kirk’s pocket, where his phone was still ringing. “I’ll help you answer it,” she suggested.

Kirk raised his eyes to look at her in silence before passing her his phone. She took a look at the screen to find that it was someone calling from overseas. The caller was anonymous.

After answering the call, the person on the other end of the line started talking immediately. His voice was pleasant to the ear, yet he sounded like a badass person.

“You finally answered my call.”

“Hello? This is Kirk’s wife.”

The caller fell silent for a while before chuckling. “I see. Nice to meet you. So, you’re my bro’s wife.

His bro’s wife? Caroline turned to stare at Kirk in confusion.

Kirk had a brother? Why had she never met this brother of his before?

“Pleased to meet you.”

“Can you hand the phone to Kirk?” he asked.

Once again, Caroline turned to look at Kirk, albeit a bit hesitant this time. He nodded slightly and took the phone from her.

“What is it?” he asked curtly as he stared out the window, his brows knitted closely together.

Finn chortled. “I thought you wouldn’t answer my call.”

“What do you want to tell me?” Kirk demanded.

“Nothing, really. I just wanted to tell you that I’ve prepared a surprise for you. It’s on the way.”

Finn chortled. “I thought you wouldn’t answer my call.”

“What do you want to tell me?” Kirk demanded.

“Nothing, really. I just wanted to tell you that I’ve prepared a surprise for you. It’s on the way.”

Finn continued, “It’ll arrive in 20 minutes, and your men will open it up for you. What you’ll hear next is boom!”

Finn burst into laughter, and a vein on Kirk’s temple pulsed.

“What the hell are you going on about?” Kirk snapped.

“You took several business deals away from me. I had nothing to do, so I had no choice but to plan a surprise for you to entertain myself.”

Kirk glanced at the road ahead and ordered, “Stop.”

He hung up right after that. The look on his face was so awful that Caroline asked, “What happened?”

“It’s nothing.” He tried to comfort her with a smile, but to no avail.

“I can’t accompany you anymore. You have to go there alone. Take care.” That said, he opened the door and climbed out of the car.

His actions made Caroline worry for him. “You take care,” she said.

She couldn’t erase the ominous feeling in her gut after answering the call just now.

Kirk nodded, hailed a cab, and left shortly afterward, leaving Caroline staring in the direction in which he had left.

She couldn’t help but wonder aloud, “Jack, do you know that Kirk has a brother?”

Jack was about to answer when Caroline started mumbling to herself. “Hmm… How were you supposed to know this? Even I knew nothing about it.”

Afraid that things might go wrong, Jack went along with the flow and told her, “Yeah. How could I have known that he has a brother?”

He revved the engine, and they headed straight for their destination.

To be frank, he had caught snippets of information about Kirk’s brother. Rumor had it that Ivan had adopted him.

However, for some reasons unknown, he turned against the Morrison family and cut ties with them.

What was more, he had even founded his own company to go against them. Things had taken a turn for the worse after Kirk took over the company.

Soon, Jack and Caroline arrived in the northern suburbs. They both got out of the car and headed to a private room, Liam was already waiting for them when they entered the room. He looked more haggard than before.

When he saw Caroline, he rose from his seat to greet her. “Ms. Evans, you’re finally here.”

Caroline sat on the chair before him and said, “Sorry to keep you waiting.”
