Chapter 512
Bogus Billionaire
âDarling!â Kirk grabbed Carolineâs shoulders.
âLister to me. Iâm not Eddyâs second uncle.â
His words amused Caroline. She said, âIs that so? Kirk, I canât believe youâre still trying to fool me now.
Let me ask you. Is Daphne your other wife?â
Kirk didnât want to admit it, but she had undeniable evidence, so he could only nod.
âSince Daphne is Eddyâs second uncleâs wife, and sheâs your wife, doesnât that make you Eddyâs second uncle? I can still draw simple conclusions like this, you know.â
âNo, things arenât as simple as you imagine.â Kirk pinched the bridge of his nose.
âIâm really not Eddyâs second uncle.â
Caroline laughed again when she heard his words. She looked at him. âOkay, since you said youâre not his second uncle, explain why Daphne is your wife.â
Kirk let out a harsh breath. As he faced Carolineâs hostile gaze, he clenched his fists.
As if he had made a big decision, he said, âSince things have reached this point, I have no reason to hide this from you any longer.â
Caroline stared at Kirk, unphased. She wanted to find out what other lies he could come up with.
âRemember that I told you I was abroad to handle my companyâs affairs some time ago?â
Caroline raised an eyebrow. She somewhat remembered him telling her that. âI do. What about it?â
âActually, Eddyâs second uncle, SY Groupâs president, gave me this company!â
Caroline scoffed, unconvinced.
Kirk wasnât phased by her response at all. He continued, âDonât you feel strange about why I returned to Easton despite being born and raised abroad?â
Caroline straightened up. She couldnât resist asking, âWhy?â
âBecause Iâm from SY Group.â Kirk slowly let go of Carolineâs shoulders.
âBack then, SY Group wanted to build up a new market in Easton, but they couldnât just drop Kirk was telling the truth. SY Group sent some people to get a lay of the land before they could develop a new market in Easton.
âWhat does this have to do with the company you mentioned?â
âThis concerns Mr. Morrison Senior, Eddyâs grandfather.â
Kirk explained, âSome time ago, Mr. Morrison Senior had been nagging Eddyâs second uncle about marriage.
âSo he got annoyed and asked Daphne to pose as his wife to shut Mr. Morrison Senior up. To prevent the man from becoming suspicious, he had to use a marriage certificate from Macldo as proof.â
Carolineâs gaze was cold as she questioned, âDoesnât that just prove youâre SY Groupâs president?â
She had read that document. Kirkâs photo had been on it.
Kirk said, âNo. Although my picture was on that document, Iâm really not SY Groupâs president.
Well, forget it. Iâll just show you the contract.â
Caroline took the contract Kirk handed over, feeling confused.
There were two documents. One was a contract of Eddyâs second uncle handing over King Corporations, one of SY Groupâs branch companies, to Kirkâs father.
They had done it on the condition that Kirk and Daphne register themselves as spouses.
The other document was a nonâdisclosure agreement. Kirk and Ivan couldnât tell anyone this secret. Otherwise, they would have to pay a penalty of 200 million dollars.
Caroline was utterly confused. âWhat the hell is the meaning of this?â
Kirk swallowed nervously. He looked into Carolineâs eyes, a trace of stress swirling in his gaze.
âHe needed a fake marriage certificate as proof, but he couldnât actually register a marriage with Daphne. If he did, Daphne had the legal right to take away a part of his property after the divorce.
âSo he decided to get a subordinate to register the marriage on his behalf.â
He continued, âThen, using the real marriage certificate, he forged a believable, false certificate to fool Mr. Morrison Senior.â
âWhy did he choose you among the many subordinates he has?â
âBecause both of us are Eastonian, and we have the same last name. Itâs easier for him to modify the certificate like that.â
Caroline didnât say anything else.
Kirk was tense and anxious. He kept staring at Caroline.
This was the best explanation he had been able to come up with after an entire day. If Caroline didnât believe him, he was doomed.
