Chapter 1601
Mr. Kane Got Blacklisted
Trevor let out a sigh, âLook, he probably fooled you.
âWh-What do you mean?â Chrisâs wife thought her lie had been exposed, her voice trembling.
Trevor pulled out his phone and scrolled through the photo album before handing it over to her. âWhen Stella discovered that he embezzled money from the company, she considered he might have his reasons, so she took the trouble to check the flow of funds in his account. Turns out, most of his money went to this woman. He even spent two million dollars to buy her a property thatâs less than a kilometer away from your place.â
Chrisâs wife looked at the photo of the young and attractive lady and instinctively denied the allegation, âThis canât be true. Youâre making things up!â
Trevor remained calm, âAlmost all of his friends know about this woman. If you donât believe me, you can take her photo and ask around.â
The woman was still doubtful when her daughter suddenly spoke up, âThatâs Cassie.â
Chrisâs wife was taken aback, âWhat did you say?â
The little boy quickly covered his sisterâs mouth.
The womanâs heart sank. She suppressed her anger and asked in a low voice, âDo you two know her?â
The boy hesitated for a moment and whispered, âDad took us to Cassieâs place to play, but he told us not to tell you.â
The little girl chimed in, âCassieâs place is so much fun. Her cooking is even better than yours, Mom.
And sheâs prettier than you, too. Dad said he wants her to be our new mom.â
The womanâs face turned ashen. She staggered to her feet and started to stumble out. The two children ran after her, still unaware of what was happening, âMom, when is Dad coming back? I want him to take me to Cassieâs place to play.â
The womanâs finger trembled at the sound of that. She pushed her children away as she said, âGo away! Donât follow me! Find that woman if you want her to be your mom so bad!â
The children fell to the ground, crying. Their mother did not spare them a glance and left.
Darcieâs face darkened, âTrevor, did you have to say something like that in front of the children?â
Trevor looked at her calmly, âI didnât expect the children to have met the woman.â
âChrisâs actions are shameless, but you should at least leave him some dignity in front of the kids! Have you thought about what would happen to their family once his wife discovered he was cheating on her?
Why would you want to break up their marriage and push them to the point of no return?â
Trevorâs eyes grew cold, âHe embezzled company property to support his mistress. Why are you condemning me when heâs the one to blame? Darcie, youâve been in this business for so many years.
Why would you succumb to doing charity work?â
Darcie seethed with anger, âIâm the founder of The Velvet. Despite it being a charitable act, it holds significance to me.â
âWithout the Saun familyâs connections, how could you have built it up in such a short time?â Trevor said as he looked at her in disdain. âMoreover, Stella owns the store now.
Anything that goes on in there has nothing to do with you anymore.â
âYou-â Darcieâs eyes welled up with tears, her voice trembling uncontrollably. âWhat do you mean by that? Are you saying I married your father just for the reputation of the Saun family?â
Wenham asked Trevor to come and deal with Chrisâs family, not fan the flames with his own family.
After being silent for a while, Wenham quickly raised his voice to reprimand his son upon seeing the commotion,â Stop with all your nonsense. How dare you argue with your stepmother?â
No matter how rebellious Trevor was in the past, he always spoke with respect toward his elders. This was the first time he had ever gone head-to-head against Darcie. His recklessness surprised Wenham.
Ultimately, Wenham could only try to smooth things by saying, âDonât mind him, Darcie.
He mustâve been drinking before coming home.â
This light-hearted and nonchalant comment disappointed Darcie immensely.
She withdrew her hand and said hoarsely, âI know that all of you see me as an outsider. Being a stepmother is difficult enough. What a biological mother does, I have to do a hundred times more to prove my worth. Itâs just something I have to endure.â
Wenham stepped forward and comforted her. âWeâre all family, Darcie. Trevor didnât mean what he said. Please donât overthink it.â
Darcie pursed her lips and took two steps back to avoid Wenhamâs touch, âWould you still be this lenient if he had talked back to Freesia like this?â
