Chapter 1414
Mr. Kane Got Blacklisted
Vermont put on a fake smile. âYouâre too thoughtful. Itâs dangerous for a girl like you to come out so late at night.â
Felicity replied, âDonât worry, Stella dropped me off here. She went to send Keegan supper, too. Sheâll pick me up after sheâs done.â
Vermont was speechless. He gritted his teeth while continuing to fake his smile. âSheâs really helpful.â
Felicity said, âStella treated me really well. She purposely consulted a doctor before helping me make this soup.â She paused briefly before continuing, âShe said that it significantly affects Keegan. Youâve been having it for a week now. Do you feel anything?
âIâve been wanting to ask you about it, but youâd run off every time you finish it, and I donât get a chance to do that at all. Stella said that something should be happening after a week of drinking it. Otherwise, she suggests we go to the hospital for a comprehensive checkup.â
Vermont said inwardly, âYouâll see it happening with your naked eye if I didnât run off.â
âIâm talking to you.â Felicity nudged him.
Vermont had no choice but to lie, âIt kind of works, I guess. Iâd feel warmer after drinking it.â
âIs that all? Nothing else?â
Vermont shook his head. âNope.â
Felicity furrowed her brows, looking very concerned.
Vermont added, âAlternative medicine varies from person to person anyway. What works for others might not work for me.â
He intended to tell Felicity that the soup was not working and that she should stop making it for him.
However, she took it the wrong way as she nodded and said, âThat makes sense. Iâll get the doctorâs number from Stella later and take you there for a more accurate diagnosis.â
Vermont was at a loss for words.
Felicity was not done yet. She added, âThis soup is working since you said you feel warm after drinking it. Letâs not waste it. Iâll pour it out for you.â
Vermont did not say anything. He looked at the soup being offered to him. However, he had no choice but to go along with it.
After finishing the soup, Vermont handed the thermos jar back to her and said, âItâs getting very late.
You should go back now. Donât you have work tomorrow?â
âStella isnât here yet anyway. Thereâs no rush.â
She placed the thermos jar on the table and started looking around in his office.
Vermontâs office was not like Keeganâs, which only had books and files. There were a lot of figurines, toys, and puzzles in his office. Felicity scanned his office and saw many things unrelated to work.
She took a Rubikâs cube, sat on his office chair, and began playing with it.
Vermont looked at the time and thought to himself. âDid Stella go to deliver food, or is she going there to cook?
âIt has been so long. Why is she not here yet? Felicity will soon find out Iâm lying to her if she doesnât leave now.â
Then, he cleared his throat and said, âMiss bandit, you shouldnât wait for Stella anymore. Iâm sure that sheâs having a good time with Keegan now. God knows when sheâll come and pick you up. Iâll have my driver send you back.â
Felicity replied without even lifting her head. âStella said that sheâd come pick me up. She always keeps her word.â
Vermont was speechless.
âDo you want to wait downstairs then?â
Felicity paused and looked at him. âWhatâs wrong? Canât I stay in your office?â
Vermont pursed his lips. âI have work to do, but I canât shift my attention away from you if youâre here.â
However, Felicity was not that easy to fool.
She stood up, walked up to Vermont, and sized him up with her eyes squinted.
Vermont felt a shiver run down his spine under her gaze as he pretended to be calm and said, âWhat are you doing?â
âSomethingâs wrong with you!â Felicity said.
Vermont kept a poker face. âWhat is? Youâre imagining things.â
Felicity scoffed. âI brought you soup, and you pretended to be happy. But your smile sold you out.â
