Chapter 491
The Broken Warrior’s Daughter
Chapter 0491
As Lily closes the door, I immediately hear her sniffles and soft sobs. I clench my fists and go in search of Patrick. Iâm furious that they didnât throw her father in the cells or at least make sure he returned home.
I find him in his office. I walk in without knocking. He looks up and when he sees itâs me, he sits back in his chair, folding his hands together on his desk.
âClint? Something on your mind?â
I should sit down, but my temper wonât let me settle. âI took Lily for a run tonight to get her out after everything that happened.â I look up to see if heâs going to make some smart comment, but he remains quiet, watching me.
âHer father was laying in wait for us when we returned.â That got his attention. He sits up, leaning forward.
âWhere?â
âOutside the packhouse. Called her slut, ungrateful and basically blamed her for everything. Then he said something about it all being a misunderstanding and Lily will be moving back home when itâs figured out.â I turn to look at him, my anger flashing hot. âI thought you were going to punish him, not let him harass his daughter and lie about what is really going on.â
Patrick sighs. âHave a seat, Clint.â
âIâll stand.â
âIt wasnât a suggestion.â He says and stares me down until I sit. I may be stronger than he is, but heâs still my Alpha.
When I sit, he rubs his hands over his face. I can see that this entire situation is causing him stress. But thatâs his job as the Alpha. You get the good and the bad with leading a pack.
âI was not expecting Evelyn Raines to break down in my office and beg for leniency for her mate on her knees. I did it for her.â
Okay, that was unexpected. Iâd never met Lilyâs mom, but I assumed that she got her strength of character from someone, and since it obviously wasnât her father, I thought it would have been her mother. Apparently, Lily got her strength from herself.
âAnother reason our mate is incredible and perfect for us.â Donovan pipes in.

âSo, now what? He just gets to harass ver?â I ask, still forming from the confrontation.
âOf course not. Heâll be spending a night in the cells for that little stunt. Heâs also been bannað from leaving the pack lands, but Iâll give him an Alpha command to stay away from Lily without my express permission.â He wouldnât be able to refuse the Alpha command.
âWere you able to get her some clothes and things for school tomorrow?â Task.
âYes, they were left in her room. Her mother wanted to see her and thatâs when i realized that you must have taken her out.â
I look out the window behind Patrickâs desk. âShe looked so sad.
He nods, giving me a moment. âWas there anything else?â
âYes. I wanted to get your permission to train Lily and Andra away from the warriors. Especially now, with how her father treated her, I donât want her distracted.â
He looks at me intently long enough that anyone else would be squirming in their seat. But Iâm a Guardian, I donât squirm. I wait him out.
âI want a demonstration every other day of what sheâs learning. And Clint, Iâd better see progress quickly.â
I smirk at him. âI already knew youâd say that.â
When I leave his office, I go back to Lilyâs room. I put my ear to her door, and I can hear that sheâs still sniffling. As I turn to leave, I see Beta Calvin standing in his doorway, watching me with his arms crossed across his chest.
âClint?â He says, his eyebrows raised.
âI was just checking on her, Calvin. We had a runâin with her father earlier and I wanted to see if she was okay, but sheâs still crying.â I say quietly, looking at her closed door.
His arms drop and he steps closer to me, lowering his voice. âWhat kind of run- in?â He asks.
I tell him and his lips press together. âI was worried that Evelyn was more concerned about her mateâs punishment than he was. Iâm assuming you spoke to Patrick?â
I tell him my conversation with Alpha Patrick and he nods. âThe Alpha command will ensure that he leaves Lily alone, or at least that he doesnât speak to her

without Patrickâs consent. But Iâll keep my eye on her anyway.â
âThanks, Calvin.â I move to step around him when he starts chuckling.
âDonât thank me. The closer Iâm watching her, the harder it will be for you to get to her.â
