Chapter 34
The Alpha Claimed Me Deeply
(Auroraâs pov) âDid you get it?â I asked, my grip tightening around Lilyâs thigh to hold her steady. âUhmm, move a little to the leftâ¦â She drawled as she searches through the books. For a girl her size, she really packed some weight on her. My knees were this close to collapsing.
I huffed, fixing her on top of my shoulders as I shift around. I didnât want to end up throwing her, searing that if she tumbles and injures herself iâd have to pay the price. âMaybe itâs not there Lilyâ¦â I breathed out, my shoulders aching from holding her up for so long. Weâve been like this for a good ten minutes. I was surprised the alpha didnât storm in here as yet. âOh have a little faith Aurora. Weâll find it, just a little moreâ¦.â She whispers, arms reaching out to grasp at a book. Her fingers knocked over the book and it falls directly on my forehead. âOomph.â I grunt, blowing my pink tresses that messily scattered across my face. âOops. Sorry there Aurora.â Lily quickly apologized. âItâs fine. It didnât hurt.â I reassured, tightening my grip around her thighs as I nearly tripped from the same book that assaulted my forehead moments ago. âWoah.â Lily squealed, steadying herself by gripping onto the shelf. âSorry, lost my footing a little.
Are you okay?â I asked stiffly, fearing she got hurt. Lily snorted. âIâm fine Aurora, seriously calm down your heart. Itâs rather unsettling when weâre here alone. Kinda creeps me out actually.â
âSorry, I just donât want your brother to rip my throat out forâ¦â I trailed, remembering how h e didnât have to add much to damage Adrianâs throat.
Adrian was a wolf, with betaâs blood at that. Sheâd heal quickly from a brutal attack like that while I on the other hand would choke on my blood until I succumb to my death.
I winced.
âDid your heart rate just kick up a notch?â Lily sighed. I cringed. âSorry âFirst of all, stop saying sorry every time. You need to grow a backbone, especially with dealing with my brother. Trust me, killing you seems to be the last thing on his mind.â She grumbles cutting me off.
My mind seems to be rattled by her words as I try to make sense of them. But then she
suddenly makes a happy sound.â Here you are my love, Iâve been looking for you!â Huffing, she reaches out and grasps a huge book with an old looking olive green cover. She smiles down at me. Long hair curtaining around the shape of her face.â Hereâs the sucker. You can put me down now.â
i nodded, relieved that her weighit would be soon off of me. I gently help her down my shoulders, visibly sighing in relief when she lands on her feet safely.
Turning to me, she juts out her hand and nudges her head at the book. âHere you go,â she pushes it forward then stops. âWait,â
I looked at her confused, before she continues.â You should know Iâın only giving this to you because I trust you. Which I donât to just anyone. And somewhere deep down inside, Xavier trusts you too. Donât make us regret it Aurora,â She darts her eyes between my own, looking for any flicker of emotion that would give her a sign that I shouldnât be trusted. She finds none.
âI wonât. For what itâs worth, I keep my promises. And I promise you that I wonât make you regret trusting me,â Even though the words slipped out of my mouth, I couldnât help but feel scared of what would happen if they found out my secret. Was that considered breaking their trust?
She smiles and pushes the book into my hands. âNow go have a look at what youâre looking for. Iâm pretty sure that tingly crap is somewhere in that book. Now if youâll excuse me, Iâll go grab a book of my own to read.â
She turns around and starts to walk away but I called out for her.â Wait.â
She turns around and I looked at her nervously. I didnât want her far away from me in case her brother happens to burst through those doors at any second. Heâd not let me explain why I was here especially if he doesnât notice Lily first. Heâd think I came here on my own to learn the secrets of wolves.
Heâd be thrilled to discard me quickly.
She notices my unease and smiles reassuringly. âDonât worry Aurora. Iâll just be over here if you need me. Iâm not going to go too far.â She promises, pointing to an area where there are a few chairs around a table.
I nodded, still a little uneasy but donât word it out. I better start searching for what I came here for and quickly.
As Lily skimmed her way through the endless books, I decided to stay where I am and skim the big book she handed to me. Its olive green cover was very old and showed that it had been here for ages. There was no indication of what the book held in its knowledge apart from the golden art of a wolf sketched into it.
I opened the book, the dusty yellow pages greeting me. I coughed. It seems no one had bothered to dust it off. It mustâve been sitting here for God knows how long,
My eyes roll down the scribbles of letters, words and drown in them quickly.
The words looked like they were handwritten with a quill. The cursive was beautiful. I skimmed my finger down the rough paper touching the dried ink that had been written down the table of contents.
1. The Full Moonâ¦â¦â¦.. Page 1
2. An Alphaâ¦â¦â¦â¦â¦ page 22
3. A Betaâ¦â¦â¦â¦â¦â¦â¦ page 44
1 A Gammaâ¦â¦â¦â¦.. Page 69 5. An Omegaâ¦â¦â¦. page 88 6. Shiftingâ¦â¦â¦â¦â¦â¦. Page 107
7. The Mate Bondâ¦â¦â¦â¦. Page 288
My fingers stop on the last line, my heart quickening in joy as I find what Iâve been hoping the book had inside. I quickly search for page two hundred and eighty-eight. I didnât know why my fingers were so shaky when I finally set my gaze on those numbers. I bit into my lower lip and turned the page.
The words Mate Bond scribbled into huge words nearly set my heart astray. Suddenly I felt nervous to read it even though I knew I should. This was sacred knowledge that was only supposed to be shared among the wolf people only.
I had no place to even glimpse at the book much less touch it. But I couldnât find myself placing the book back on the top shelf, away from my sight, away from me.
But I needed to be selfish if I were to survive in this world. I had taken enough torturing, enough disgusted looks thrown my way to know that I would be my only savior. And to be a savior, I need to look out for myself. And that means I have to be selfish and put myself first.
So I took a deep breath and started reading.
Mates are two souls brought together by the moon goddess herself. Theyâll share a bond unbreakable by any circumstances. A bond that ties the two souls deeply until they are practically one.
In other words, mates are destined before even coming down to earth.
A werewolf has only one mate in his life and if the moon goddess sees fit, sheâd bless that wolf with a second one, only if the first is no more or had been rejected.
At the age of eighteen, it is more likely that mates will be drawn towards each other, whether itâs by pure coincidence or by searching for that other half. No matter how far apart, their souls will be drawn to look for the other half.
The only way a wolf recognizes their destined mate is by the strong addictive scent of their mate. Or by their beast roaring in their heads that theyâve finally found him or her.
There are other ways to know if theyâre mates. By a simple touch. The tingles that will rock you will have you melt into their arms. Or perhaps the beating of your heart like a drum as they are near. Another is the way you cannot simply stop thinking about them or would you be able to stop the sudden hunger to be claimed
I stopped reading, my face going ghostly white as the blood rushes out of my face.
I felt all those things with Alpha Xavier. The racing heart, the tingles. The feeling of hunger to have him touch me. To have him nearâ¦..
I swallowed heavily and forced myself to continue reading.
Mates are generally possessive of their destined mates, Male wolves precisely Alphaâs are those most likely to be more possessive and territorial. Itâs normal for them to feel very possessive and protective when they havenât marked their mates yet.
Mates typically are so protective of their other half that it shouldnât be surprising if they tendt o want to keep them to themselves until they are marked
âAurora!â Lily suddenly draws me away from the book in my grasp by her unsettling hushed alarmed voice. I snap my head to her, stiffening when she runs over to me with her eyes wide and gaze foggy âMy brother, â She whispered in alarm, reaching out for the book in my hand.â Heâs on his way here. I can sense him already,â She panicked, grabbing the book from my hand quickly.
I froze, my heart dropping into my stomach. Alpha Xavier was on his way over here?
I felt my blood run cold.
.
âWe must hurry up and put this book away before he gets here,â She urges, looking at me in alarm as I stood frozen.
Sensing her urgency seems to have snapped me out of whatever trance I had been in. I nodded quickly and still with a furiously beating heart, bend a little so she could fix herself on my shoulders.
I wince while straightening my back and looked up as she swiftly places the book back where it had been previously. âOkay, set me down quickly, heâs almost here.â She rushes out and I do just that.
She suddenly wraps her fingers around my wrist and tugs me forward. But stop suddenly.â Donât be afrai
The door is thrust open roughly and for such a huge door it looked to be easily opened by Xavier. His eyes are flickering with red as his gaze falls on me and Lily. I froze.
âBrother it was me who brought her here âKeep quiet Lily!â Xavier snarls, his eyes pinning his sister with a look of upset.
But for a girl her size and age, Lily stood her ground and jutted out her chin.â Donât you dare hurt her Xavier or I wonât forgive you. It was me who brought her here. She was bored staying i n the room, it was my duty to show her that around here isnât so bad with a brooding annoying Alpha like you.â
Xavierâs form grows oddly taller as he barks.â Your duty is to stay in your damn room Lily and not play host to a captive weâre not sure is an enemy!â
I flinched at the word enemy. Somehow coming from his mouth felt like he was throwing acid on my skin.
I didnât like the word. And I didnât like it coming from his mouth.
âSheâs not an enemy. And brother I think you of all people know that, donât you?â Lilyâs grip around my hand tightens as if reassuring me everything will be okay even though her brother was currently killing her ten times over with his glare.
An unknown look passes between the two siblings and Lily smiles in triumph a second later. Xavierâs eyes shift in irritation and he turns to me.â Go to my room Aurora and wait for me there.â He demands leaving no room for protests.
Lily gives my hand a slight squeeze as she turns toward me slightly.â It will be fine Aurora,â Turning to her brother, her eyes danced with an emotion I knew all too well. Arrogance.â Hurting you would be the last thing on my brotherâs mind. Isnât that right brother?â
I watch Xavierâs jaw tick at Lilyâs words and feel his frustration.â To the room Aurora!â He roars, angrier than he was moments ago.
I flinched but knew I should follow his demand if I were to ease the tension between the siblings. I didnât want him angry at Lily because of me. So I nodded quickly and told Lily goodbye before quickly walking towards the door. Xavierâs huge form gave little space to pass, and when I did, I brush against him by accident. I heard his sharp intake and swallowed as I fought the itch to touch him. My footsteps turn to a sprint as I race to get out of the furious Alphaâs presence.
