The tension in the air was thick as the group continued to move deeper into the house, navigating through the maze of rooms and creaky hallways. Lumine, despite herself, couldn't shake the feeling that Scaramouche was always close by. She could almost sense his presence before she saw him, a smirk playing on his lips whenever she glanced in his direction. He never seemed to stop pushing her buttons, and the worst part? She was starting to notice.

Scaramouche, for his part, had a plan in mind. It was clear to him that Lumine was playing hard to get, but he thrived on challenges. The more she resisted, the more it fueled his desire to get under her skin. The little glances, the teasing words, all of it was part of his calculated game. But tonight? Tonight was different. Tonight, he was going to make his final move.

As they entered the next room, a large, open space with windows that were covered in thick dust, Lumine felt a sharp tug on her arm. She turned to see Scaramouche standing there, his usual smirk in place.

"What's the matter, Lumine?" he asked with feigned innocence. "You seem a little... distracted."

Her heart skipped a beat. How does he always do this? she thought. How does he always know how to make me feel like this?

"I'm fine," she snapped, pulling her arm away from his grasp. She wasn’t going to let him see how flustered she was. She couldn't—not again.

Scaramouche followed her closely, his footsteps a constant echo behind her. He seemed to be waiting for something, or perhaps just enjoying the little game they were playing. It was hard to tell with him. But tonight, Scaramouche had decided to make things interesting.

He caught up with her quickly, moving so smoothly that she barely had time to react before he was standing right next to her. His voice was low, almost a whisper.

"You know," he began, "I don’t think I’ve seen you this... flustered before. It's kind of cute, you know?"

Lumine could feel her face heat up, her breath catching in her throat as she took a step away from him. "I’m not flustered," she said, her voice far too shaky to be convincing.

"Mm-hmm," Scaramouche murmured, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Keep telling yourself that."

Before Lumine could retort, Scaramouche did something unexpected. He reached out and gently brushed a strand of her hair behind her ear, his fingers grazing the soft skin of her neck in the process. It was a simple gesture, but it sent a shock of warmth through her body, making her heart race even faster.

Lumine stepped back quickly, her mind scrambling to keep her composure. She wasn’t prepared for this. She wasn’t prepared for him to get so close, to do something so... intimate.

"Scaramouche!" she exclaimed, her voice cracking. "What are you doing?"

Scaramouche leaned in, his lips hovering just above her ear, his breath warm against her skin. "Just making sure you’re not too distracted, Lumine. You’ve got this whole house to explore, but I think you’re more focused on me than anything else."

Lumine felt her pulse quicken. "I-I’m not," she stammered, but she could feel the heat rising to her cheeks. Her hands clenched at her sides, struggling to keep her composure in front of him. She hated how easily he could make her feel this way.

"Oh, I think you are," Scaramouche said, his voice low and teasing. "And I’m going to make sure you stay focused... on me."

Before Lumine could react, he stepped even closer, trapping her against the wall. His smirk deepened, and for the first time, Lumine saw something dark flicker in his eyes—a predatory gleam, like he was savoring every moment of this.

"You see, Lumine," he said, his voice a silk thread of seduction. "You’ve been playing hard to get for so long. I think it’s time you realize... you’re mine."

Lumine’s breath hitched. She wanted to push him away, to tell him to stop, but her body was frozen. It was like she was caught in his web, and the more she tried to escape, the more tangled she became.

Scaramouche tilted his head, his smirk widening as he watched her struggle. "It’s cute, really. You pretend you don’t want this. You pretend I don’t get to you, but deep down, I know the truth."

Her heart was pounding in her chest, the blood rushing to her face, making her feel dizzy. She could feel the weight of his gaze on her, the warmth of his presence pressing her against the wall.

"Scaramouche... stop," she whispered, her voice barely audible.

He leaned in closer, his lips brushing the side of her face, so close she could feel his breath tickling her skin. "What’s the matter, Lumine? You don’t want me this close?"

Lumine clenched her fists, her mind racing. No, I can’t... I can’t let him do this. She knew he was trying to fluster her, to make her feel powerless, and the worst part? It was working. She couldn’t stop herself from reacting, from feeling the flutter in her chest whenever he was near.

But this wasn’t just a game for Scaramouche. No, it never was. This was his final move.

Before Lumine could gather her thoughts, Scaramouche pulled back, his smile wide and knowing, as if he had already won. "I can tell you’re not as indifferent as you like to act. You want this, Lumine."

Her heart was still pounding in her chest, her thoughts swirling in a dizzying rush. She opened her mouth to say something—anything—but no words came out.

Scaramouche’s laughter rang in her ears, a soft chuckle that sent shivers down her spine. "Don’t worry, Lumine. You’ll come around eventually."

As he turned away and continued down the hallway, Lumine stood there for a moment, her mind reeling. The echo of his words lingered in the air, and for the first time, she wasn’t sure if she could keep denying the truth.

She was beginning to feel something for him.

Something she wasn’t ready to admit yet.

And Scaramouche? He knew it.

With a final, mocking glance over his shoulder, he walked ahead, leaving Lumine to wrestle with her thoughts, her heart, and the undeniable pull he had over her.

The game had only just begun.
