Aether, Hu Tao, Furina, Lumine, Scaramouche, and Heizou, members of the Ghost Hunters Guild, had dealt with their fair share of haunted houses and eerie occurrences, but this assignment was different. They were sent to an old, abandoned school with a sinister reputation: every person who entered the premises mysteriously disappeared.
"Looks like another day at the office," Heizou grinned, flicking on his flashlight as they approached the looming building. It looked like a decaying relic, its windows shattered and walls covered in overgrown vines.
Lumine shuddered, her twin brother Aether giving her a reassuring glance. "I donât know... this place doesnât feel right."
"Of course it doesnât feel right," Hu Tao chuckled, her voice filled with mischief. "Thatâs the fun part! Come on, letâs get this over with!" She marched ahead, waving her hands in exaggerated excitement.
Furina, ever the dramatic one, raised an eyebrow. "A school with a tragic backstory? Sounds like a perfect spot for mystery and chaos." Her smirk was almost devilish as she pulled out her notebook, already jotting down notes about the place.
Scaramouche was quieter, scanning the area with an expression of annoyance. "Iâm not here for your theatrics, Furina. Iâm here to do my job." But even he couldnât resist the slight glint of intrigue in his eyes as they all stepped inside. The creaking of the doors echoed as they entered, the smell of mildew and dust thick in the air.
As they wandered through the hallways, the group noticed the abandoned nature of the place. Broken lockers, old desks, and the faint echo of footsteps... or perhaps just the sound of their own.
"I feel like weâre in a horror movie," Heizou mused, his voice laced with amusement.
"Thatâs because we are," Hu Tao quipped, already bouncing around as she explored the rooms with childlike enthusiasm.
The atmosphere grew more unnerving as they reached the locker room. Furina paused, her eyes narrowing as she spotted something on the floor. Bloodied footsteps. "Uh... guys?" she called to the others, her voice slightly shaken. "Look at this."
The group followed her gaze, the blood-stained trail leading them toward a door on the far side of the room. "Guess we should check it out," Aether said, trying to keep his tone calm.
They stepped into the next areaâa dusty, forgotten pool area with old, waterlogged floaties still scattered around. The water was murky, reflecting nothing but decay.
"The footsteps lead here," Furina muttered, inspecting the area. "Looks like it continues into that shed."
Hu Tao immediately headed toward the shed and flung the door open, revealing an eerie sight. Inside was a ritual circle, with an odd key placed at its center. She grabbed it without hesitation.
"Do you think this is a good idea?" Aether asked, eyeing the key warily.
"Who cares? Itâs just a key," Hu Tao shrugged, twirling it in her fingers. "Letâs get back to the gym. Maybe itâll unlock something."
After some time wandering, they eventually found themselves back in the gym, the key now clutched tightly in Heizou's hand. "Letâs see what it opens."
They proceeded cautiously, entering the first classroom to their right. Lumine spotted another key sitting on a desk. "Itâs got to be important," she said, picking it up.
Before they could process the moment, the flickering lights overhead went out completely. The room plunged into darkness, and a chilling silence fell over them.
And then, as if from nowhere, they heard a strange noiseâa low, eerie sound. A figure in a white dress, with a pink hat, materialized at the far side of the room. Her face was obscured, but her unsettling presence radiated throughout the space.
The group froze. Furinaâs face turned pale, but she recovered quickly. "Close your eyes," she suggested, her voice trembling. "Just close them and itâll disappear."
They did as she said, and when they opened their eyes again, the figure was gone, leaving nothing but a lingering sense of dread.
"Well, that was creepy," Heizou remarked, though his voice lacked any real fear. "Letâs keep moving."
They made their way down the hallway, entering the music room. On the floor, they found a letterâa warning from someone named Joshua. "The key in the shed is a trap," it read. "It will lead you to a curse... just like what happened to me."
The air grew thick with tension as they descended into the basement. The floor was covered in moss, the walls damp with age. A door loomed at the far end of the room. When they opened it, they found themselves standing in a sewer, the foul smell overpowering.
As they walked, their flashlights flickered erratically. Suddenly, the figure in the white dress appeared again, sobbing eerily in the distance.
Hu Tao, of course, dashed forward, laughing. "I bet I can make her laugh!"
She bolted toward the figure, but as quickly as it had appeared, it vanished into thin air.
"Okay, this is getting ridiculous," Scaramouche muttered, clearly on edge. "This place is falling apart, and so am I."
But amidst the chaos, amidst the absurdity of it all, Lumine couldnât help but feel a strange pull toward Scaramouche. He was always so cold, so sharp-tongued, but there was something about how he stuck by her side, even when the world around them crumbled.
A feeling stirred within her, something different than fear. Something more... human.
"Come on, weâve got this," Aether said, his voice determined. "Whateverâs going on here, weâll figure it out."
And as the lights flickered once more, a quiet realization dawned on Lumine. They werenât just fighting for their lives anymoreâthey were fighting for each other.
