The elevator creaked and groaned as it descended, the dim light flickering above them. Everyone was catching their breath after narrowly escaping the biwa player, but the tension in the small space was palpable.
âSeriously, what were you thinking, wandering off on your own?â Scaramouche snapped, breaking the silence as he glared at Lumine.
Lumine shot him an annoyed look. âI was finding us a way out! Not my fault you were too busy being chased.â
âOh, how noble of you,â Scaramouche sneered. âExcept the whole âsplitting upâ thing almost got everyone killed. Again.â
âYouâre one to talk!â Lumine retorted, stepping closer. âIf you hadnât been so loud earlier, maybe the lady wouldnât have focused on you in the first place!â
âOh, so now itâs my fault?â Scaramouche scoffed, crossing his arms. âYouâre the one who canât seem to stay with the group without getting âlost.ââ
âLost?â Lumineâs voice rose. âI was trying to help while you were probably busy being scared out of your mind!â
âScared?!â Scaramoucheâs voice was dripping with sarcasm now. âPlease, the only thing scary here is your decision-making.â
âEnough!â Aether finally stepped in, placing himself between them. âBoth of you, calm down. We donât have time for this.â
Furina, leaning against the elevator wall with a dramatic sigh, muttered, âIf you two are done flirting, can we focus on not dying?â
The comment earned simultaneous, indignant responses.
âFlirting?!â Lumine and Scaramouche exclaimed, their faces flushing slightly.
Hu Tao, still grinning despite her earlier encounter with the biwa player, chuckled. âYou two are better entertainment than the ghosts.â
Heizou chimed in with a smirk. âI mean, sheâs not wrong.â
Lumine glared at them before turning back to Scaramouche. âThis isnât over,â she muttered, stepping back to lean against the wall.
âLooking forward to it,â Scaramouche replied smugly, earning another annoyed huff from her.
The elevator finally came to a halt, the doors creaking open to reveal another dark and ominous hallway.
âGreat,â Heizou said, peering out cautiously. âWhat fresh nightmare awaits us here?â
âHopefully one where these two donât kill each other,â Aether muttered under his breath as they stepped out, ready to face whatever horrors lay ahead.
