Chapter 12: The Villager's Ominous Warning

As the group ventured deeper into the forest, the dense canopy above allowed only slivers of moonlight to guide their path. The air grew cooler, and an unsettling silence enveloped them, broken only by the occasional rustle of leaves underfoot.

Emerging into a small clearing, they noticed an old villager standing by the remnants of a dilapidated shrine. His face bore a mix of worry and seriousness, deep lines etched into his weathered skin. Furina and Heizou exchanged glances before approaching him, the others following closely behind.

"I haven't seen you around here before," the villager said, his voice tinged with suspicion.

Heizou offered a reassuring smile. "We're explorers, investigating the area. Some might even call us ghost hunters."

The villager's eyes widened slightly. "Well, please be careful around here. My brother went to the city recently and hasn't come back since."

He glanced around nervously, lowering his voice. "I don't know how much longer I can stay here... She's probably watching us as I speak."

Lumine stepped forward, concern evident in her eyes. "Who's 'she'?"

The villager's gaze shifted to the ground. "If you see a lady playing a biwu, it's already too late."

The group exchanged puzzled looks.

"A biwu?" Scaramouche interjected, his tone incredulous. "It's pronounced 'biwa,' not 'biwu.' Seriously?! And who's this lady playing it?"

The villager remained silent, his expression unreadable. Without another word, he turned and walked away, disappearing into the shadows of the forest.

"Well, that was... informative," Hu Tao remarked, her voice laced with sarcasm.

Furina adjusted her camera, ensuring it captured the eerie ambiance. "A mysterious lady with a biwa? Sounds like the perfect setup for our next video."

Heizou rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "The biwa is a traditional Japanese instrument, often associated with storytelling and, in some legends, the supernatural."

Aether nodded. "I've heard tales of spirits and deities linked to the biwa. We should proceed with caution."

Lumine glanced in the direction the villager had gone. "Do you think he was warning us about the same lady we've encountered before?"

"Possibly," Scaramouche replied, his earlier irritation replaced by a more serious demeanor. "But until we have more information, we should stay alert and stick together."

With a collective nod, the group continued their journey, the weight of the villager's warning hanging heavily over them.

As they delved deeper into the forest, the haunting melody of a biwa began to echo through the trees, sending chills down their spines.

Unbeknownst to them, they were drawing closer to the heart of the mystery, where the line between the living and the spectral blurred, and the past's echoes threatened to ensnare them in a timeless tale of sorrow and vengeance.
