The phones is broke, the food is garbage

Lotta niggas is living with these circumstances

A year later

Thursday 29th November

"I brought you some food," Asia's inmate, Savannah announced as she strolled into the cell with two trays in her hand.

Savannah was a young black woman with hair so healthy and beautiful you had a take a second glance when you saw it. Her brown eyes glistened in the sunlight captivating your eyes into hers, a nose piercing ring gracing her face on the right side which her husband happily did himself.

Savannah stood at a solid 5'8 with long thick legs that loved to wrap around her husbands waist who loved to grab every area if possible, but he would laugh at her size 9 feet comparing it to mens.

Asia merely nodded her head as thanks and took the food from her hungrily diving into it that consisted of some white rice and 2 pieces of chicken with broccoli and corn on the cob. A strawberry flavoured jelly was also on the tray with the smallest scoop of ice cream placed next to it.

"Are you ever going to talk, if not to anyone else but at least to me I've been your cellmate for nearly a year now," Savannah hopefully nudged for Asia to talk, it's been nearly a year since she was convicted for murder and since then Asia hadn't muttered a word to anyone inside the prison.

Savannah attempted the best she could to try and help Asia with whatever she was dealing with but it was only so much she could do if Asia wasn't speaking.

Deshawn has Asia set up real nice in prison, he wanted to make it as comfortable as he could the best way he could but still that wasn't cutting it for Asia. She wanted to wake up in her own bed with her children on either side snuggled next to her.

Asia and Savannah shared a room so big that it could fit 2 double beds and still have more room. Deshawn had managed to get his connect to merge some rooms together for Asia to not feel crowded or overwhelmed with how small the cell rooms were and placed a roommate in there to keep her company. He installed a bathroom for them both that consisted of hot water, and some branded dove soap since that's what most prisons lacked these days.

The guards treated Asia like supremacy considering nearly all of them are on his and Kairos payroll. They asked Asia if she needed anything all she had to do was tell them but of course, she would never speak to them.

Asia kept to herself most times throughout the day, the only time she would step out of her cell was to eat and even that she barely did, Savannah would bring her food if she found Asia not eating that day.

"I guess we're just going to eat in silence again as usual," She muttered as she plopped down on her bed that was placed on the other end of the room.

"I miss my children," Asia finally mumbled, Savannah hoisted her head up so promptly from her food she almost got whiplash. She had to make sure she heard right because she would've never thought Asia would speak.

"I miss my little boy too, how many children do you have," She egged on Asia to talk more, she couldn't believe the way Asia spoke it was so angelic and sounded so fragile, she knew then and there Asia didn't belong in jail. She was so curious as to what could've happened to her to have her in this predicament that she was in now.

"I have twins, both girls," She smiled reminiscing about her babies, she couldn't wait to see them tomorrow during visitation. That was the only time she would speak or even crack a smile, was when she was with her children and her family, Robyn and Kamiya.

"How old are they," She wanted Asia to keep talking so she could feel more comfortable talking to her and maybe she wouldn't go back to not speaking again.

"They're 1, how old is your son,"

"He's turning 4 soon, so what are you in here for,"

"My ex-boyfriend set me up for murder," She shrugged her shoulders as if it wasn't no big deal but in reality, she wanted to jut cry every time she thought about it.

"Oh no, so why didn't you say anything, you could've told the police or anybody,"

"You don't know him as I do, the reason we live in a cell-like this is because of him he has connects, if I went to the police they would've told him," She thought of all the what if's she could've done but it still wouldn't change the fact that she never did them.

"How many years do you have,"

"15, I can't live in here for 15 years Savannah," She shook her head with tears bursting forth like water from a dam, spilling down her face.

"So what did your lawyer say,"

"My lawyer  was probably on his payroll as well, he told me to plead guilty because that was the best option," Since being in this jail she had a lot of tome on her hands and all she could do was think.

She now realised how her lawyer was so shit, it was because he was on Deshawn's payroll, that was the only explanation she could think of. She thought about how they only had the weapon in her and that's it, plus the phone witness, if she would've went to court she could've argued that there was no real motive, that Asia had no connection to the victim whatsoever, she didn't even know who the victim was in the first place.

A couple weeks ago she had asked Robyn to look into the her case again to see if there was any errors but since Robyn had just had her baby she was in mummy mode most of the time.

"I can tell my brother, he's a lawyer, a really good one might I add," Savannah offered, she saw the sincerity in Asia's eyes and the way she spoke and could tell that Asia was innocent. So Savannah wanted to do anything she could to help Asia get out of jail so she could be home to her kids.

Savannah's brother was a big time lawyer here, he was young yet he was so successful at what he does. Even though he's good at his job it still landed in Savannah going to jail for assault, but it was only because it was the judges daughter she had assaulted and we know how that goes.

"You would do that for me,"

"Of course you're my cell mate and hopefully after we're both out of here we can be friends,"

"Thank you, I know I haven't even spoken to you today but I appreciate you, Eventhough you thought you was only talking to a brick wall when speaking to me I actually was listening,"

"Well that's good to know," She laughed lightening up the mood.

"When my brother visits tomorrow I'll tell him a bout you just tell me something's to tell him then he'll contact you,"

"Thank you Sav, I appreciate it because I can't stay here I feel like I'm growing crazy with just me and my thoughts,"

"Oh you even know my name, don't mention it I like helping people,"

"You're so sweet, so what made you end up here,"

"Assault," She rolled her eyes just thinking about it, from Savannah's perspective it shouldn't even be called assault it should've been called self-defence because the girl cave at her first but of course because she was a judges daughter and she lied they didn't see it like that.

"How long you have left,"

"About 2 months left," She happily smile cant wait to get out and finally be with her son and husband.

"Aww I'm going to miss you when you go,"

"Girl you coming out about the same time as me once my brother deals with your case," Savannah had hope that her brother was good enough to be able to get Asia out of jail.

"You have so much hope, how," Asia wasn't even hopeful, she knew there was still a big percentage that she would be in jail.

"I trust my brother when he says he's one of the best,"

"Thank you, I don't know what I'd do without you," She ran to Savannah and engulfed her in a tight hug.

"Am I dreaming right now," Savannah joked as she wrapped her arms around Asia, never did Asia ever show emotion to her so to say she was surprised was an understatement.

"I'm sorry for being rude, I'm just not used to jail and I hope I won't have to,"

"No I understand, not everyone is able to adjust to things so easily, I just pray and know that better days are to come,"

"Inmate 26738 and inmate 25738 please bring your trays to me," The guard politely asked with his hands out ready to collect the plates that were not scrubbed of any food that was in there before.

"Thank you," Savannah spoke for the both of them with a smile on her face.

"So tell me about yourself, I don't even know your name, I mean there's some speculation going around that your name is Asia but," She trailed off wanting Asia to confirm her name.

"Yeah it's Asia,"

"Well Asia tell me about yourself since you know all about me,"

"I'm 23 years old, I lived in Revenua (made up) with my children and I was going to become a doctor but I didn't because I had my children by now I am just partners with some of my friends companies, I have 2 best friends who are more like sisters to me called Robyn and Kamiya," She compact her life into a few sentences.

"Revenua huh, you a lil rich rich gurl," Savannah gassed up Asia causing her to laugh at Savannah's dramatic self.

Revenua is a rich area where houses were 1 mile away from each other and each were surrounded by gates with a security team to guard them. Asia lives in a 4 bedroom house with 6 bathrooms, each bedroom having their own, Deshawn also had a theatre room built in for when the kids got older. Asia's whole house was kid proof, even down to the kitchen, each corner of the counters had a little hard plastic nob so when the children got older they wouldn't hurt themselves on it.

"I can't say I did it all by myself because my parents and my children's father were part of the reason I live in Revenua, what about you,"

"Well I am a photographer who lives in Rolling hills with my husband and child, I grew watts with my dad and I went to UCLA on a full ride scholarship for track, a lot of people said I would make it and I'm glad I proved them wrong," She reminisced back to all the people who told her she would never make it because of the place that she was from, the only people by her side were her father and her husband.

"Rolling hills huh, so you and your husband making bank as well," She mocked Savannah but was overall impressed on how accomplished she was now, Watts wasn't thee greatest neighbourhood and Asia knew a lot of stereotypes came from living there. So when she heard that she lives in Rolling hill she was proud and wished more people who lived from low-income homes would have the same mentality as Savannah in a sense of knowing that you don't have to follow the stereotypes.

"I mean I try, I'm just blessed to be where I am today,"

"So what was all the commotion that was happening out there,"

"Just some girls fighting as usual, nothing new," Savannah shrugged her shoulders, everyday someone else was fighting for stupid reasons as well. Once a girl had take another girls shower slippers to borrow and the girl in return got a broken rib cage and a broken tooth, some of these girls were in here for life so they didn't care what they did because their sentence couldn't get any worse.

"One of the reasons I don't go out there,"

"I don't want to go out there as well but who gone get our food,"

"You know one of the guards can get it for us right, just say the word and they do,"

"Your boyfriend must hold weight in here and these streets then," Savannah couldn't understand why only her and Asia had their own bathroom and their own bed plus a huge room.

"I mean yeah, but I wish he didn't," Everyday Asia worried whether Deshawn's work would come home to her and her children. That Karma would bite him in the ass whether it be now or ten years now karma was bound to come.

"I understand you, my brother used to be in the streets up until he finished college, everyday I would stay up late until he came home to know if he's safe,"

"Same, I never went to sleep until I got a phone call or even a text from him,"

"You guys didn't live together,"

"No, he said he wasn't ready plus it wasn't safe for us,"

"He's seems like really nice guy," She sarcastically stated become from what she heard she don't even know why Asia had stayed with him for so long.

"I mean we did have our good moments, but I'm definitely over him now he's my past and will remain just that," She truthfully answered because she was actually done with Deshawn and had no intention with getting back with in the near future.

"Well that's good to hear, because my brother is also single," She nodded in Asia's direction as she failed in an attempt to wink.

"I'm in jail," Asia thought she made the obvious grabbing at her orange jumpsuit in addition. A man was the last think she could think of right now, after her relationship with Deshawn she sort of gave up with ever finding a man who would want her since she has 2 kids already.

"I know that, when you out of jail of course,"

"I don't think so,"

"It can just be as friends, plus he need some because he need some advice other than what his homies give him,"

"I guess," She shrugged her shoulders knowing a man like Savannah's brother would want nothing to do with a jail girl like herself, so the thought of being his friend went straight out the window.

"I'm bout to go shower then go make my call to my husband," Savannah stated heading to where the bathroom was at the back of their room.

Asia smiled at Savannah and watched her leave grateful to have her in her room and as her roommate. She could tell that they were going to become good friends in the near future whether or not Asia was behind bars or not.
