The wedding celebrations had ended, and the palace had finally fallen silent. Rudra and Akshavi’s first night as husband and wife had begun.

The room was decorated with flowers and soft candlelight, giving it a romantic glow. Akshavi sat on the bed, adjusting her heavy bridal jewelry, while Rudra stood near the door, nervous.

“So… should I say something romantic, or do we just sit here awkwardly?” Rudra asked, scratching the back of his head.

Akshavi raised an eyebrow. “Romantic? From you? That would be interesting.”

Rudra chuckled. “Well, I am full of surprises.”

Before Akshavi could respond, there was a loud knock on the door.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Rudra frowned. “Who is now—”

Akshavi sighed. “I swear, if this is one of your drunk friends—”

But as soon as Rudra opened the door…

There stood Naksh Singhania.

His shirt was unbuttoned at the top, hair slightly messy, and his usual composed expression was replaced with frustration.

“I need whiskey,” Naksh announced, stepping inside as if he owned the place.

Rudra blinked. “what ?”

Naksh didn’t repeat himself. He walked straight inside, looking around the room.

Akshavi, still sitting on the bed, narrowed her eyes. “Are you serious right now you thinkwe have a bar here ?”

Naksh turned to Rudra. “i also want to you to come with me .”

Rudra groaned. “this is my wedding night! Naksh ”

Naksh gave him a blank look. “And? You think your night is more important than my thoughts?”

Naksh ignored her and turned back to Rudra. “Come with me. I need to talk.”

Rudra’s eyes widened in horror. “No,! No way! She will kill me if I leave now!”

Naksh frowned. “You’re scared of her?”

Rudra gulped and glanced at Akshavi, who was now watching with an amused expression. “Of course not!”

Akshavi smirked. “Good. Then stay where you are ohkey if you arenot scared .”

Rudra in fear " no baby i didn't mean that "

Naksh sighed and looked at Rudra again. “I didn’t expect you to be so weak.”

Rudra groaned. “Naksh, please! I just got married!”

Naksh folded his arms. “Fine. You are coming or not .”

Rudra rubbed his face in frustration. “ please! This is my wedding night! Why are you doing this to me?”

Naksh sighed. “Because something is bothering me.”

Akshavi and Rudra exchanged glances.

“Something?” rudra asked. " What?"

Naksh exhaled. “That girl…who was fighting.”

Rudra asked in confusion " Aarvika?"

Then, Akshavi smirked. “Oh ho wow Rudra? You are also a love guru from when ?”

Naksh shot her a glare. “Shut up.”

Rudra sighed. “naksh! , go sleep. You’re overthinking.”

Naksh shook his head. “No. I can’t figure out !"

Rudra groaned. “Can we not do this now?”

Naksh ignored him. “I need answers. From you ”

Akshavi clapped her hands. Taunted him  “Okay! Idea! Rudra, take your boss and help him solve his love mystery—outside this room and don't come .”

Rudra stared at her in horror. “What?! No! He’ll be fine on his own!”

Akshavi narrowed her eyes. “Rudra. Do you want to sleep on this bed tonight?”

Rudra gulped. “Of course.”

Akshavi smiled sweetly. “Then come inside .”

Naksh rolled eyes “Finally ! Someone is now Joru ka gulam.”

Rudra glared at him but didn’t argue.

Five minutes later…

After some time, Rudra was thrown out of his own room.

Rudra sighed. “This is the worst first night ever.”

Naksh smirked. “For you. I’m actually enjoying this.”

Rudra gave him a murderous look. “I swear to God, —”

But Naksh wasn’t listening anymore. His mind was elsewhere. and rudra was trying hard to go inside again .

on the other side of the city, Arvika sat alone in her room, lost in thought.

She had rushed home after the wedding, but her mind was restless. The sounds of celebration had faded, leaving only silence.

She stared at her phone, debating whether to call Navya or Rushali, but she knew they’d ask questions she didn’t have answers to.

Arvika groaned, rubbing her temples. “What is happening to me?”

She was thinking that what she was missing or what she was trying to relating

Secondly now she was thinking about Kartik she was now getting closer to him after the trip but the storm came after it only how she will tell him about her engagement.

She know how much he was trying hard to get her .Before she could think further, her phone buzzed.

She grabbed it quickly, hoping for a distraction. But when she saw the caller ID, her heart skipped a beat.

“Vardhan was calling him ”

Arvika hesitated.

The engagement was in next week She had agreed to it, yet something inside her felt… uneasy.

Taking a deep breath, she answered the call. “Hello?”

“Finally, you picked up.” Vardhan’s voice was smooth, confident. “Were you avoiding me, Arvika?”

She said directly “Of course ! Why you are calling me late night ”

"That was harsh reply.” He didn’t sound convinced. “I was hoping we could meet before the engagement. To talk.”

Arvika blinked. “Talk about what?”

“About us.”

She swallowed. “I—”

Before she could respond, she heard a knock on her bedroom door.

Her younger brother, Arav, peeked in. “Didi, Dad is calling you.”

Arvika sighed. “Okay, coming.”

She turned back to the phone. "I can't talk to you know going bye ”

“I’ll be waiting.”

As soon as she hung up, she let out a deep breath.

Something about Vardhan’s tone she was just bounded with him which she doesn’t want .

As Arvika walked downstairs, she noticed an unusual silence in the house. Her father, sat on the sofa with a serious expression, her mother beside him. Arav stood near the staircase, looking nervous.

Her heart skipped a beat. Something was wrong.

“You called me, ?” she asked cautiously.

Shailesh ji looked at her, his gaze unreadable. “Yes, sit.”

Arvika sat down slowly. The atmosphere felt heavy.

“I received a call today,” shailesh ji started, “from the vardha family .”

Arvika stiffened. “Okay… and?”

Her mother glanced at her father before speaking. “They want to prepone your engagement.”

Arvika’s breath caught. “What?”

“They want the engagement in just five days .” Shailesh ji said firmly. “And we have agreed.”

Five days?

Arvika’s mind spun. Why so soon? They had planned for next week, so why the sudden rush?

“But… why?” she asked, trying to keep her voice steady.

Sadhvi replied " It was already going to be next week last days it just they are saying in starting in five days it will be next week only "

“Vardhan is returning to Delhi earlier than expected,” her father answered. “He has urgent business his father want him there .”

Something felt off. Urgent business? Or was there another reason?

Her mother smiled, patting her hand. “It’s good, isn’t it? You’ll be engaged to such a big family sooner.”

Arvika run towards her room carring tears in her eyes . Five days. She wasn’t ready.

She wanted time—to think, to process.

And she had no idea what storm was coming her way.

Next day of the college campus did nothing to calm the storm raging inside Arvika. She stood at the end of library, clutching the strap of her bag tightly. Today felt different—heavier. And she knew why.

Kartik was standing a few feet away, laughing with his friends, completely unaware of how her heart was sinking with every passing second. She took a deep breath, gathering the courage to step forward. Because this was time where she thought she should tell now !

Just then, as if sensing her presence, Kartik turned around. His smile faltered for a split second before he masked it with his usual playful smirk.

Kartik (grinning): "Look who’s here! all serious and nervous. What’s up? Got a secret mission?"

Arvika tried to smile, but it didn't reach her eyes. She hesitated before speaking.

Arvika (softly): "Kartik, I need to talk to you."

Kartik raised an eyebrow at her tone. Without a word, he signaled his friends to leave and then crossed his arms, waiting.

Kartik (teasing): "Okay, what is it? You look like you’re about to drop a bomb on me."

She let out a shaky breath. A bomb. That’s exactly what it was going to feel like.

Arvika (hesitantly): "I... I’m getting engaged kartik...."

For a second, Kartik didn’t react. It was as if the words hadn’t fully registered in his mind. His playful smile remained frozen, his eyes staring into hers.

Then, slowly, he blinked.

Kartik (flatly): "sorry ? Please repeat i think i heard wrong ."

Now aarvika heartbeat was getting faster " y..yes Kartik..I am getting engaged " Kartik smile faded in second.

That single word held too much—shock, disbelief, and something else she couldn't decipher.

A painful silence stretched between them. Arvika lowered her gaze, unable to meet his eyes anymore.

Kartik let out a soft chuckle—a forced one.

Kartik (mockingly): "Wow. I mean… congratulations, I guess?"

She looked up at him, her eyes pleading.

Arvika repliedin guilty ): "Kartik, I wanted to tell you myself. I didn’t want you to hear it from someone else."

Kartik (bitterly): "Oh, so That I got the heartbreak package directly from you instead of someone else?"

Her lips trembled.

Arvika (softly): "It’s not like that…"

Kartik let out a dry laugh and ran a hand through his hair, his frustration evident.

Kartik (shaking his head): "You know what’s funny, Arvika? I always knew I wasn't the one for you. But I still kept hoping—just a little—that maybe one day, you'd look at me the way I looked at you."

Her chest ached at his words. His eyes were clearly telling how much he is hurt now.

She wanted to say something, to make it better, but what could she say? The truth was, she had never thought about them that way, but she had cared for him. He had always been there for her whether she wants or not.

Kartik (softly): "Tell me something, Arvika… was I ever even close? Did I ever mean anything to you?"

Her throat tightened.

Arvika (voice breaking): "Of course, you did, Kartik! You are important to me!"

Kartik (smiling sadly): "Yeah, but not enough, right?"

A single tear slipped down her cheek. Kartik stared at it for a moment before looking away, his jaw clenching.

Kartik (whispering): "It’s funny how love works. Kisi ko bina kuch kiye vo insaan inti asani se mil jata hai jiske liye dusra mannatien maang raha hota hai ."

Her heart shattered at his words.

Arvika (pleading): "Kartik, please don’t say that. I never wanted to hurt you."

He let out a shaky sigh and forced a smile.

Kartik (softly): "And yet, here we are indirectly you did ."

Silence.

For the first time, she saw him struggling to keep his emotions in check. He had always been the easy-going one, the one who never took things seriously. But now, he looked like a man who had just lost something he never truly had.

After a moment, Kartik took a step back.

Kartik (whispering, half-smiling with tears in his eyes ): "You know… tum humesha mere samne  thi ..par fir bhi mere pass nhi thi ..tum kabhi meri thi hi nhi aarvika .... "

Arvika squeezed her eyes shut, trying to hold back her tears. "Kartik .. I.. cared for you .. I have no option " she step forward to touch him for making him calm.

Kartik (a tear fell from his eyes ): "I’ll be fine, Arvika. Don’t worry. After all, I’m used to losing the things I want the most."

Aarvika tears was now not in control " I..I love you Kartik " Kartik looked at her in shock " yes I love you now i have feelings for you "

Kartik stepped forwards and cupped her face and kissed her forehead and replied with forced smile "it's too late aarvika"

His smile faded with his last sentence

" Mera Pyaar adhura ho gya .. par mere liye pura hai .. tum kisi or ki ho jaogi ab .. par mera dil tumhare liye hi rahega ....(he smiled while his tears were falling  )" so miss aarvika ? Good bye ...be happy always  "

And with that, he turned around and walked away, leaving her standing there with an unbearable weight on her chest.

She watched him disappear into the crowd, her vision blurred with tears.

She had expected this conversation to be painful, but not this painful. Again she had lost the person whom she started to like and wanted to be with him .

Because sometimes, the hardest thing to accept is knowing you were someone’s almost—but never their forever.
