"I think I just bankrupted myself."
"Haha, squandered your inheritance already?"
"No."
"Sorry, couldn't resist. So, how have you bankrupted yourself?"
"Well, you know how it's London Fashion Week? Well, I went to the Julien Macdonald show and I think I want to buy at least three of his designs. "
"Only three? Surely that's a good day."
"Oh, no, just wait. I then went to the Marchesa viewing and well, things went down hill from there. I think I bought one of everything from the collection!"
"One of everything?"
"Daniel, you don't understand!"
"No, I don't."
"They were just all so... gorgeous!"
"They're clothes, Sophie."
"How dare you!"
"Were they really that nice?"
"Definitely."
"And how much did it set you back?"
"A lot."
"A lot?"
"A lot, a lot."
"That much, huh?"
"God, I feel sick."
"Serves you right."
"C'mon, be a little more supportive, will you?"
"No, I'm good thanks. I couldn't care less about any of this."
"Blasphemous! You better start caring before Paris. I swear if you turn up there with this attitude, I'll put you on the first Eurostar out of there!"
"I think I can muster up a little enthusiasm for your mother's show, if only because I want to impress her."
"Impress her? Why?"
"Because she's your mum."
"Still don't see why you need to impress her, though. Just be yourself and she'll like you."
"Are you sure?"
"It's the accent. If you speak with an upper class English accent then my mother will literally fall at you feet and fawn all over you."
"For real?"
"It's a Mr Darcy thing. Plus, why do you think she married my father?"
"She married your father because of his accent?"
"No, she married him for love and money, probably."
"Whatever. What are you doing now?"
"I'm at the office with my new assistant, Kizzy, going over polaroids from today."
"You're working? But it's almost ten pm, Sophie."
"I know, but I still have work to do. I need to write the commentaries about each show and choose the best looks from each show for the website."
"Can't that wait until tomorrow?"
"Not for me, no. I'm almost done anyway. Kizzy's being rather helpful and I have Deacon and Henley here with their illustrations, so I won't be here much longer."
"Why do you have illustrators?"
"Well, I like to have my eye on the designs as they come down the runway, scrutinizing the style, the cut and the overall look. That means that I'm dissecting the clothes instead of taking them in which is why I have an assistant take polaroid photos of each look. Deacon and Henley draw illustrations of designs they think I'd like so when it comes to writing up my commentaries, I have beautiful drawing in front of me, which I then frame and send to the designers with my compliments on a great show."
"You do that?"
"Yes. Not everyone does, but I'm a major suck up with these designers."
"You suck up to them?"
"Well, not really. Most of them know who my parents are so they suck up to me. Especially the London Fashion Week designers. In Paris, they don't give a shit who I am. I mean, Karl Lagerfeld wouldn't dream of sending me a fruit basket on my birthday."
"And who is Karl Lagerfeld?"
"You're joking aren't you?"
"Do I sound like I'm joking?"
"Oh, sweetheart, this is... not to worry, I'll have Charlotte and Emma teach you all you need to know on the train on the way over. I can't have you being my escort and not have you know who Lagerfeld is."
"I'm your escort?"
"Well, you can always be Charlotte's escort if you want."
"No, I prefer you."
"Oh, honey, that's so sweet of you."
"Whatever. So, are you done bankrupting yourself?"
"God, no! Today was just the beginning. I dropped a pretty penny yesterday after Charlotte Olympia's show. Tomorrow is going to be hard. Temperley London is showing, Topshop Unique, Vivienne Westwood Red Label, Mulberry, Mary Katrantzou, and, of course, McQueen!"
"Sounds like an expensive day."
"Erdem and Burberry on Monday. Tuesday is looking promising, though."
"Haha, so you might need that inheritance sooner rather than later, then."
"I'm not sure there'll be enough money in the pot for everything I want. Milan and Paris are still to come, remember."
"And you thought spending a grand on shoes was going to make you starve for a month."
"I'm like that girl from Confessions of a Shopaholic. I can't control myself."
"Is that a TV show?"
"What? No! It's a book. And a movie."
"Sounds like a chick thing."
"Oh, it totally is."
"Explains why I don't know about it."
"Yeah, yeah, you're a man, I get it."
"I'm a man?! Gosh, here I was thinking I was a leprechaun."
"I'm not going to dignify that with a response."
"Suit yourself. Right, I'm going. I'm hosting a poker night and the guys are waving at me frantically."
"You're hosting a poker night?"
"Yes- Just a minute, guys. I'm on the phone with Sophie-"
"Hold up, your friends know about me?"
>
"-Guys, shut up!-"
"Well, tell the guys 'hi' and don't let me keep you from your game any longer."
>
"-Michael, deal the cards, will you?- Sophie, I'm going now. These arseholes are eavesdropping."
"Haha, cool. I need to de-distract myself from work anyway."
"I have no idea what that meant, but ok."
"It means I'm going back to work."
"Ok, I'll speak to you tomorrow."
>
"Um, good night, Daniel's friends? And good night to Daniel, too."
"Night, Soph."
>
"-Fletch? Fuck off.-"
