"Hello?"
"..."
"You there, Soph?"
"That depends."
"On?"
"Are you going to talk in song titles?"
"Not tonight, no."
"You sure?"
"I'm sure."
"I don't trust you."
"Honestly."
"That's a song title."
"Coincidence."
"Mhm."
"I promise you, Soph, I won't mention any song titles tonight."
"..."
"Cross my heart and hope to die."
"Pinky promise?"
"Yeah, that, too."
"... Fine."
"So, I take it you didn't like the whole song thing last night."
"Not particularly."
"Weren't you even slightly amused?"
"No."
"Impressed?"
"No."
"Hm... were you pissed off?"
"Yes."
"What if we did it with movie titles?"
"..."
"Or we could just have an adult conversation using real words and leave pop culture out of it."
"Yes, let's try that."
"Ok."
"..."
"..."
"..."
"So... how was work?"
"It was good. How was work with you?"
"Good."
"..."
"..."
"..."
"What if I just slipped in a few song titles?"
"No."
"But-"
"You do that, and I'll hang up."
"Fine."
"..."
"How was your Game of Thrones party?"
"It was good."
"..."
"..."
"What about one movie title?"
"No."
"But-"
"Jesus Christ. Fine. One movie title."
"Ok."
"..."
"..."
"I'm waiting."
"I'm trying to think of a film. Anyway, the conversation needs to flow first."
"Look, Daniel, I'm really not in the mood for any of this?"
"Are you ok?"
"Yeah, I'm fine."
"No, you're not. You sound... tired."
"..."
"Why are you tired?"
"Bad day at work."
"You just said that it was good."
"I lied."
"Sophie... what's going on?"
"..."
"Babe, I can't make you feel better if I don't know what's wrong."
"I, uh..."
"Yeah?"
"..."
"..."
"I'm just having a really shitty day, that's all."
"Really?"
"Stayed up too late for Game of Thrones, couldn't sleep much after and to top it all off, today is Monday."
"You sure that's what's really wrong with you?"
"I'm sure."
"I'm not convinced."
"..."
"Sophie, please, tell me what's wrong."
"I went to the doctor today."
"For?"
"Check-ups and tests."
"What do you need them for?"
"It was a fertility doctor."
"Fertility doctor?"
"I needed to see what the possibility of us having children is."
"No, Sophie-"
"Yes, Daniel. You're you now and you'll need a male heir fo be you after you. I know you've talked about adoption and what not, but that's not what you want. I know you, Daniel. I know you will want a child with your blood-"
"Sophie Evangeline Delaney, let me be clear on this, ok? I do not care about any of that. None of it. I only want and need you. Stop thinking otherwise."
"That's great and all-"
"Sophie!"
"If you would let me finish."
"..."
"The ultrasound scans show that, internally, everything looks fine. Blood tests will be back in the next few days to see what my hormone balances are like. They wanted to... actually, no, that's an overshare. You don't need to know that."
"Tell me, Soph."
"They wanted to put dye up... there, and then do an x-ray."
"Um... Oh! Haha, they did?"
"Not funny, Daniel."
"Kinda is. And, did they?"
"Did they hell! Scans and blood tests are enough for me."
"Why didn't you discuss any of this with me?"
"Becuase I didn't want to get anyone's hopes up. If the blood tests come back and show that there's something wrong, I didn't want you to be devastated."
"Sophie-"
"Don't. If you say that it's not important, I'll get angry and then we'll fight and that'll be horrible, so please, don't."
"..."
"Thank you."
"You're welcome."
"So, where's you movie reference, then? I was hoping you'd have slipped it in somewhere."
"Not in the mood."
"Daniel, come on, I know you've got one on the tip of your tongue."
"..."
"..."
"I actually don't."
"Maybe tomorrow night instead."
"Deal."
"..."
"I love you, Sophie. Don't ever think that I don't or that I'll love you any less for anything. I fell in love with you, not with the fact that we might ever have kids. As long as I have you, I could not care less about anything else."
"Jesus, Daniel, are you trying to make me a blubbering wreck?!"
"It's still the truth, though."
"Ok, that's it. I have to hang up now. I'm about to start crying and that is not something that either looks good or sounds good."
"I don't mind."
"But I do. So... good night, Daniel."
"Night, sweetheart."
"..."
"P.S. I love you."
"Haha, there's the movie title!"
"I love you, Sophie."
"I love you, too, Daniel"
