Thanks to sghaziaa for pointing out to me that I didn't add any translations to what Sophie's mother was saying in French in the Rocky update from yesterday! Basically, Camille Clément is the fifth board member for the Courtenay Foundation (as explained in this update!) And she wasn't a huge fan of Daniel. In fact, she called him a dickhead. So, yeah. Really sorry that I forgot to add the English translations!
Now, let's get to tonight's unedited update! Sarah xx
~*~*~
"Is everything ok?"
"Yes. Shouldn't it be?"
"Well, it's getting late and you didn't all so I was, you know..."
"Worried?"
"No, not worried. Just, you know..."
"Concerned?"
"Wondering if things were ok. That's all."
"Everything's fine. I've been with my grandmother today and I was late leaving. I literally got through the door about thirty minutes ago and had a quick shower, which I was half way through when you called."
"You better not be naked."
"I'm not. I have a towel strategically wrapped around my hips."
"Good. I find it weird when people are talking on the phone and they're naked."
"What?"
"Never mind. I'm just being weird, that's all."
"Haha, ok. Well, I learnt a lot today."
"Yeah?"
"Well, not a lot, but enough."
"About?"
"This stuff you and my grandmother have been plotting. So, it turns out that my grandmother is the head of the Board of Trustees, Samuel and I are there as interested parties, Phillip is taking on all the legalities, and then e have your mother. Sophie, why is you mother on teh Board of Trustee?"
"Oh, didn't Connie tell you?"
"No. She told me to ask you. So, here I am. Asking you."
"Connie wanted someone in the fashion industry to be on the board because we're dealing with a lot of vintage, one of a kind fashion pieces. I suggested my mother, and Connie agreed."
"Right, but what I don't get is this- why couldn't you be the industry insider?"
"I bet Connie didn't tell you that bit either, huh?"
"Again, she told me to ask you."
"Ok, so here's the thing. Your grandmother named me as her replacement on the Board."
"She's replacing herself already?"
"No. It's for when... she's no longer able to be a trustee."
"When she dies, you mean?"
"I was trying to find a nice way of saying that, but, yes. When that happens, I'll inherit her seat on the Board."
"You know there's a full Board meeting scheduled for next week, right?"
"I heard."
"Your mother will be there."
"I suppose she will be, yeah."
"She called me a dickhead last night."
"I know."
"She hates me."
"No, she doesn't."
"Does she usually call people she lies 'dickheads' then?"
"No"
"Then you agree- she hates me?"
"She doesn't hate you. Any more."
"Any more?! Ah ha! So she did hate me."
"I cleared the air now, so you'll be fine."
"Oh, God. She's going to kill me."
"She's not going to kill you, Daniel. Jesus, get a grip, will you?"
"Get a grip? Sophie, really?!"
"If it's any consolation, she pretty much hates me right now, too."
"Why, what did you to piss her off?"
"I did something really stupid."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah. I said something to someone and then that someone said something back, and then it all went to shit because I never told that someone that the something that I said was true which is why things went a little, or a long way, south. Now she's angry with me."
"You lost me after the seventh word of that."
"She's not angry with you, is what I'm trying to say."
"I still don't believe you."
"Well, you're just gonna have to."
"Ok. So, what are you doing now?"
"Another dress fitting."
"For the Met Gala or for Emma's wedding?"
"Emma's wedding this time. I've lost a little bit of weight so the seamstress has to pull the dress in a little."
"A little?"
"An inch. Or four."
"Four?! Why the hell did you lost that much weight?"
"Heartbreak diet."
"Oh."
"Yeah."
"But you're taking care of yourself, right?"
"Trying to. Jasmine makes sure I eat during the day but it's hard because I'm always on the move. Then at night, it's a little tricky to cook when your kitchen is packed full of boxes."
"You could go out to eat."
"I could, but once I get home, I usually just fall asleep after talking to you."
"This isn't healthy, Sophie."
"Tell me about it. I can't wait until I'm back in London! There was this great Portuguese restaurant down the road from me and it was amazing! God, I miss it!"
"Not that long to go until you're back."
"I know."
"You've already done a month in New York."
"Time flies when you're having too much fun and you forget to eat and all you do is work and sleep."
"Still, only what? Five more months until you're permanently back here."
"Maybe, yeah."
"What do you mean, maybe? Are you planning on staying longer?"
"God no! I like New York, but I prefer the chilled out vibe of London and the laissez faire attitude of Paris too much."
"Thank God. For a second, I thought you were about to say that you'd be in New York indefinitely."
"Nope. Plus, I have stuff I need to arrange for Connie."
"Right about that, too. What the hell are you both plotting now?! She kept going on and on and on about someone named Charles and something about a venue."
"Oh, that? It's, you know-"
"Don't you dare say 'stuff.'"
"Stuff."
"Sophie, tell me."
"You'll just have to wait and see. I've been sworn to secrecy by Connie. I can't tell you anything. It's a need-to-know kind of thing."
"Well, I think I need to know."
"No, you just want to know. That's completely different."
"Sophie-"
"Wouldn't you rather go and finish the shower that I so rudely interrupted? Yeah, I think that's a much better idea. Plus, I have things to do, like stand still and not let Mireya stab me with pins."
"You're ignoring the subject at hand."
"Observant, Mr Whitaker. So, I'll see you soon, baboon?"
"I suppose so. In a while, crocodile."
"Good night, Daniel."
"Bye, Sophie."
"Um, Daniel?"
"Yeah?"
"..."
"..."
"..."
"What is it, Sophie?"
"Nothing. Never mind, it can wait. Sleep tight, Daniel."

A/N
Well, I think last night's update went rather well. No one complained, so I take it that it was ok.
Any guesses what Sophie might have wanted to tell Daniel at the end of this chapter? If someone guesses right, I'll dedicate the next update to them!
