"Hello?" Pt. 11,369 words~7 min read

Video of the song mentioned in this chapter is here. It's called Les Voyages en Train.

It's French, and it's gorgeous (the meaning of the song.) I'll try to translate it tonight and I'll post it tomorrow. It fits Sophie, I think, so I had to mention it at some point.

Sarah, xx

p.s. Before anyone starts to think that anything will happen between Sophie and the ice hockey player, Brogan- NOTHING IS GOING TO HAPPEN! #DANPHIE4ALWAYS

Oh, and this is unedited! Sorry.

"How did it go with the badger?"

"And you call me weird. The badger?"

"The ice hockey player?"

"Oh, Brogan. Yeah, he's a nice guy. Really intimidating to look at but he was lovely. He's given me some tickets to go see the game tonight and I'm weirdly looking forward to it."

"You're going to see an ice hockey game? It was only yesterday that you knew nothing about it, now you're going to watch?"

"I've evolved since yesterday. Brogan showed me some clips of him playing and it looks brutal. People slamming other people into the side of the rink, jabbing each other with their sticks, enforcers going to... enforce? I think ice hockey could totally be my favourite sport now."

"Because it's brutal?"

"That, and the fact that it's really quick."

"What a strange woman you are. Did you ask the badger if he was gay?"

"Brogan. And yes, I did ask."

"What was the response?"

"He's straight. And single."

"Not sure how those details should be of any importance to you."

"They're not."

"Are you sure? You sounded rather excited about the fact that he's straight and single."

"We had a bet going at the office, that's all. I was the only one to put cash on the fact that he's hetro and unattached. The girls around here now owe me a life time supply of Starbucks! Well, not life time, but until I leave, anyway."

"Ah, well in that case, the people at your office were stupid to come in between you and your coffee."

"I know! Idiots."

"Have you cleared up the misunderstanding about you having a husband and a daughter? Which, by the way, escalated quickly from the previous day when I had been called your boyfriend."

"The girls obviously thought you deserved an upgrade. But, yeah, I think I set them straight."

"So what am I to you now?"

"What do you mean?"

"If you told them that I'm not your husband or your boyfriend, what did you tell them I was?"

"I, uh... all I said was that you and I aren't married. And that I don't have a daughter."

"So... what does that mean?"

"Typically, it means I'm not married and I don't have a daughter."

"And?"

"And what?"

"I'm not sure if this is deliberate or not right now. Soph, what am I to you?"

"You're my Danphie. What am I to you?"

"Everything."

"Well, that's implied in Danphie. Dan and Phie. Two identities, put them together and you get Danphie. You complete me."

"Now you're just quoting films to me."

"'I have crossed oceans of time to find you.'"

"Not sure what movie that is from, but I'm pretty sure you crossed oceans and time zones to get away from me."

"It was from Dracula with the amazing Gary Oldman."

"Ah, never seen it."

"Missing out, man."

"Pretty sure I'm not...woman."

"You know that doesn't sound as cool, right?"

"I am aware but I just don't care."

"You are the shittiest rapper in the word, Daniel."

"I wasn't trying to rap."

"Ok, you're the shittiest poet in the world, then."

"Ah, please, I can totally win you over with my poetry."

"I doubt that."

"Hold on... wait a second."

"..."

"..."

"..."

"..."

"Daniel-"

"Ok, here it is. Excuse the pronunciation."

"Pronunciation?"

"It's in French."

"Oh, this should be good!"

"Hey, don't be rude."

"Sorry, please continue."

"You can't laugh."

"I won't. Out loud, at least. I'll laugh on the inside."

"Ok. Je crois que les histoires d'amour c'est comme les voyages en train-"

"Hold on a second! Who have you been talking to?"

"What do you mean?"

"Now is not the time to be reciting Justin Bieber lyrics! Hugo? Is he there? I know he is!"

"Busted."

"I can't believe he told you about that song. I hate him."

"I have no idea what the lyrics mean, though."

"Well... just, never recite those words to me again."

"You hate it that much?"

"I like it that much!"

"So, I can't recite it because you like it?"

"Exactly."

"You know that does not make sense."

"Either way, whether it makes sense or not, don't do it."

"Any other songs I can't sing for you?"

"Nope, just that one."

"Any particular reason that the song is a no-go with you?"

"There's this one part of the song that means a lot to me, that's all."

"Which one? It's not like I know what the words mean."

"Not spilling to you, Whitaker."

"I can just ask Hugo. I'm sure he'll tell me."

"He won't."

"He might."

"I meant, he can't."

"Why can't he?"

"Because he doesn't know which verse it is."

"I thought he knew everything about you."

"Not everything. Just a lot."

"But not this?"

"Some things are best if you're the only one who knows about it."

"Shame. I can keep a secret, you know."

"Daniel, I am not telling you."

"Fine."

"Fine?"

"You'll tell me one day."

"I won't."

"You will."

"How are you so sure?"

"Because I'm Danphie."

"What if this isn't a Danphie kind of thing?"

"Everything about you and I is a Danphie thing."

"..."

"I can wait for you to tell me."

"You'll be waiting until your death bed."

"It's just a song, Soph."

"How dare you?! Just a song?! That's it. This is over."

"Haha, c'mon Sophie."

"Good bye, Daniel."

"Ok, Soph. We'll pick this up tomorrow."

"In your dreams, Daniel."

"You're always in my dreams."

"Smooth."

"Swoon. I'll catch you."

"Now who is stealing lines from movies?"

"Haha, me."

"Ok, the part in the song basically talks about how a great love makes you change your behaviour and early in your relationship you have to find your place, whether this is going to be a first class or a second love story. It sounds a lot better in French."

"Wait, did you seriously just tell me which part of the song you love the most?"

"It sounds better in French, I promise."

"Yeah, but... not even Hugo knows about this."

"Well, it's a Danphie thing."

"Danphie for life, huh?"

"For life."

"..."

"..."

"Do you need to go? I can hear you tapping away on your computer in the background."

"Huh? Oh, yeah, sorry. I was just proof reading... that's wrong."

"I'll let you go then."

"No, it's ok, Daniel, I can multi task."

"No you can't."

"I'm a woman, of course I can."

"You let your toast burn because you had to make a cup of tea."

"That was one time! I hate that you and Hugo are now friends. That bitch will spill all my secrets."

"Why do you think I'm mates with him?"

"In that case, I should text Elias more."

"More? I didn't know that you did text him. Socially, that is."

"I don't. But I will start. Tomorrow. Or never."

"I like the last option."

"I bet. Anyway, can I take you up on that offer now?"

"What offer?"

"I need to go back to work, so..."

"Right, say no more. I'll leave you to it. Alfred needs to go for his daily walk. I was thinking of taking him to my grandmother's house this weekend. That sounds like a good plan, right?"

"I'm sure Connie will love him. After all, I chose him and Connie loves me. Love me, love my dog."

"Our dog. Right, off you go, Cinderella."

"Cinderella?"

"Yeah, back to work."

"Isn't that more of Seven Dwarfs thing? Hi-ho, hi-ho, it's off to work we go."

"And which dwarf would you be?"

"Happy, obviously."

"Ah, yes. How could I have missed that?!"

"Daniel?"

"Yes?"

"Go away."

"Enjoy the ice hockey. Later, alligator."

"Will do. In a while, crocodile."
