"The Dark Stranger"

"You're awfully quiet..." Eddie says on the ride home.
I am snapped out of my brooding. "Excuse me?" I turn to look at my friend who is driving us home. "I was a little... preoccupied."
"Mhmm..." she purse her lips and gives me one of those pointed look as if that would explain everything. "I said; you're awfully quiet..."
"Yeah..."
Silence engulfs the car again and I try to ignore the worried glances she cast my way. Oh God, It is just as it was before my little holiday. I turn and look out the side window.
"Are you okay?"
I turn back and notice the worried look she is sporting. It looks honest enough.
"Was it the guy out on the patio?" she ask. "What did he do to you?"
Oh... she's talking about Damian...
"You mean hot guy?" I feign up the required attitude. "No he was all talk," I sigh and turn once again to look out the window while I wonder how she would react if I told her about vampires. "I can introduce him if you want, he has the look." I smile and realize this is actually a good way to distract me. "But what would Kevin say?" Now I am the one giving her the pointy look.
We both start to snicker. "I was worried that I lost you there again girl." Eddie is using her big-sister tone of voice and the acquired stern look that comes with that.
"Oh... you're not getting rid of me that easy..." I turn away again, pleased with my ability to calm her down so I can retreat to my own sanctuary.
Who is the mystery guy?
Could he be the Vincent everybody is talking about? Eddie and the others from work knew about him, and Damian was relieved that he was gone. He seems to be handy to have around and with that look I will not object.
"It's been a long day," Eddie says and somehow I manage to change my expression on the little time it takes for me to turn my face towards her.
"Yeah, I'm a little out of it, being cut loose for a week and a half," I give her a wry smile.
She snickers. "A lot of partying back home?" She arches one inquisitive eyebrow in company with a playful ragging making us both laugh.
"And headache..." I shrug my brows and roll my eyes in a feign resignation. "I met Damian there, and he is the kind of guy you should really stay away from; you and me both."
"Territorial?"
"No, he's a jerk!"
"Yeah, well a fine jerk."
"And he knows it too."
"Yeah he looks like that kind of guy," Eddie laughs. "But I wouldn't object to a little slap and tickle with that one..." her laugh change into a glib grin.
"Step down, girl. You don't want him." I can hear the sharp tone in my own voice and I cannot emphasize this enough. "I'm telling you..." With a heavy sigh, I resume my thorough investigation of the houses we pass on our way to my house.
"So... you tapped that?" her tone is accusatory.
"No!" I claim fervent. "I didn't even kiss the guy until he just throwed himself at me." By now my rambling is unleashed and simply pour out of me. "He just wrrr... and I just whoa..." I start to wave my hands about, grimaces and the whole kit. "Who was I to know? I mean it's not like they are real or anything, and now he start to follow me around like some freaking stalker."
"Whoa there girl, you better calm down! I am not following. He's stalking you?"
I turn towards her with wide panicked eyes. Oops...what did I say?
"You've got a stalker on your back and Vincent has just gone awol?"
I have no comments, because I have no idea what to tell her, but she is just rolling up to my house and pull over. "It could be a coincidence that he showed up here tonight." I shrug and smile. "I'll just go and call Vince."
Eddie narrows her eyes and glare at me.
"So, see you tomorrow." I hurry to get out of the car and give her one last cheery smile and a wave before I briskly walk to my house and head inside. As soon as the door is closed I lean heavy against it.
Oh sweet Jesus, what have I said?
With a sigh I lean forward and cradle my arms around my head as I slide down along the doorblade and end up sitting on the floor. What is happening in my life?
First of all, I really need to contact this Vince-guy, he seems to hold some major clues in this mystery, I think. Secondly, I have to get hold of the darkhaired dream guy from earlier. I roll my eyes in bliss before I get on my feet, walk upstairs and turn the tap on in the shower. It takes a little time before it heats up and I slowly remove my clothes and step into the steamy glass cubicle.
While the hot water is streaming down my body, my mind wander once again to this Vince-character. I am bemused by the fact that everybody seem to know him when I have no memory at all. Mostly am I puzzled by the confusing matter that everybody seems to expect me to know him.
I sigh as I lather my hair and rinse it. "Oh Vincent..."
'Yes Samira.'
I flinch and look through the clear glass of my shower. The words were so clear that I could have sworn the man was standing beside me. "Vincent?" I try again in a muted tone.
'Yes, Sam. Do you want me to come over?' The same dark husky voice is now filled with suppressed laughter.
Once again, I clear mist off the glasspanel to look for a man in my house. This is crazy!
I turn the water off and sweep the towel around me. Carefully I look around as I step out of the small shower-cabin. Internally I roll my eyes at my own irrational behavior and grab another towel to dry my hair. I pad around in my house and hum to some melody that has been stuck in my head, while I dry myself, pull a tanktop and a pair of shorts on and wrap myself in my luscious bathrobe.
I walk downstairs to grab a glass of water before I hit the sack. In one last try I have to see if I'm delusional. "Vincent?" With my breath held, I listen for the expectant answer but nothing happens.
In an exhale I shake my head and roll my eyes.
There is a tap on the door.
I flinch and furrow my brows, but carefully pad to the door. Who can it be in this late hour; it must be Eddie who has forgotten something. With a quirky smile I open the door, but it is not Eddie.
"You called." The drop dead gorgeous guy is standing on my porch with a playful smirk on his face.
My mouth falls open. "How... Who?"
He is clearly amused by my reaction. "You call and I come..."
"Vincent?"
With my feet frozen to the hardware floor and with my mouth mimicking a goldfish on land, I stand there, feeling overwhelmed.
"So... what did you want me, Samira?" He walks in through my front door and I stagger surprised backwards. With the heel of his shoe he kicks my door shut before he tenderly hold my face in his hands. "I know what I want to do."
I look into his handsome face and do nothing while he leans in and kiss me. My head starts to spin instantly and unreal things seem to happen. Images flash before my inner sight as I wrap my arms around the muscular torso while memories fill my mind.
I remember the feeling the first time I lay my eyes on him and our struggle to build a home together. The image of him in an old monk-robe makes me smile into his mouth and our kiss gets an extra amount of emotional fuel and deepens.
Suddenly there is a poof of energy being released and through my lashes I note a vibrant change of light surrounding us.
"I couldn't wait any longer," he mumbled against my lips.
"It took you long enough."
He starts to chuckle and his dark Lapis Lazuli colored eyes beam at me. "You were the one who wanted to be kept in the dark."
I pucker my brows while my eyes never leave his. Memories of meeting Esme fills me and I remember my statement that I'd rather be kept in the dark. I've definitely been in the dark. "Yes, I did..." My words are slowly being drawled out. "But I was lost without you."
He wraps his arms around me again and pulls me to him hard. "I know baby, I know."
The loss I have been through for weeks is now completely evaporated, and a passion that craves all of our attention is taking hold of us. Swiftly, Vincent lifts me in his arms like a not so blushing bride and head up the stairs to my bedroom where we undress each other without the tiniest bit of hesitation or modesty.
It is not only the immediate hunger for each other that is urging us on, but the need to be reunited, to be one.
Lovemaking is a powerful way of putting every ordeal behind us, nothing matters except him and me and the pleasuring connection we share. The thing in the back of my conscience that have been nagging me for a while has evaporated as soon as Vincent kissed me and the jasmine scent that now surround us in bed feels like home.
Although I was totally beat when Eddie dropped me off, I still lie awake in Vincent's arms long after the earth has shook and we rest in post-orgastic bliss.
Silently I go through everything that has confused me over these last days, or weeks, and now I seem to know the answer to everything.
Vincent's chest is vibrating with a soft chuckle. "Yes my love, you have all the answers, but perhaps a little nap would help getting you through tomorrow's workday?"
Oh right, the mind-reading thing!
"Sorry, I forgot about that." I mumble drowsy.
'Don't worry about it' flows through my head in Vincent's voice and a smile graces my face before darkness engulf me into dream-land.

Next morning I wake up, still intertwined with Vincent and my body is not interested in getting out of bed and getting to work; it has other ideas.
Vincent snickers. "I'll still be here when you get back." He kisses my temple. "Nothing out of ordinary is going to happen. I'm just going to kick the crap out of Damian for approaching you last night."
"Approaching me? He bit me!" I yelp, and the calm morning is ruined. "In Phoenix... I was at a party with Nick and snaggletooth bit me!"
Vincent's eyes darken instantly. "He failed to mention that part," he presses out through clenched teeth.
I snuggle close to Vincent again, not sure if it is to lessen his distress or mine. "He said I resisted his compulsion, what does that mean?"
He takes a deep breath, possibly to calm down, but it is not working. "Some kind of mind control... Not every vampire can do it, but Damian is really good at it. He couldn't compel you?"
"I snapped out of it."
Vincent raises his brows in a impressed gesture. "Good. Now breakfast and work," he orders me. "Get up so I can see that delectable body of yours," he teases with his eyes twinkling again.
I narrow my eyes, but oblige him with an extra pivot to show off my naked body as I get out of bed. His facial expression is reward enough.
When my makeup is done and I'm dressed for work, the smell of coffee is already spreading throughout the house. With wrinkled forehead I walk into the kitchen where Vincent is preparing breakfast for me. "Wow, it smells amazing."
He smiles towards me. "I know."
I laugh. "Where you always this cocky?" I give him a piercing look, but crack up into a snicker.
"I had to keep up with you, angel."
"Oh... so it's gonna be like this now. My fault?"
Vincent chuckle, slide his arms around my waist and pull me close. "Not your fault sweetie, it is because of you and I thank you for that." He slides one of his hands into my hair and the grip on my neck sends tingles along my spine. "What a life you gave me!" He crash his lips against mine, ending the playful bickering.
My head is spinning when he brusquely end the kiss. "Now; breakfast and then work. Somebody has to earn us a living," he jokes and I lean my head back in a boisterous laughter.
"A kept man?"
He wiggles his brows and gestures towards the table for me to take a seat. "I'm not intimidated by a powerful woman," he says as he pours coffee and place a plate with egg and bacon in front of me. "I'm still married to you."
I laugh, trying hard not to spill the coffee. "I'm just girl working in a bakery."
"No, you're not."
My jaw drop and I press my brows together in bemusement. His smiling feature is contagious and soon I smile with him. Why is it so easy to do exactly what he does? I start to laugh and finish my breakfast. With the toothbrush in my mouth I rush to fetch the last few things and rush into work in the last minute.
Eddie gives me a harsh glare, but soon brighten up in a wicked smile and all I do is return it. Even if the day is busy with hundred things to do, time simply fly by and before I realize it, it is time to head home again.
I am anxious to see Vincent again and his door opens the minute I get out of my car. Without his gestures or call, I walk over to his house and am greeted with a warm kiss.
"Welcome home," he smile and warms my soul.
"I can't remember last time I was homesick like this."
"I don't blame you," he smiles and lead me into the kitchen where dinner is ready. "And I have longed for you as well. How was your day?"
I laugh. "It was amazingly short. How was your?"
"I met Damian."
"Oh, right. How was your meeting with snaggletooth?"
"Snaggletooth?" Vincent laughs. "He got a few bruises, but he heals to darn quickly."
"Really?" I realize that I don't know much about vampires. "Vampires are still fiction to me."
"There are scientific research, science that claims that it is allergy to the sun and a medical defect within the blood," he explain as he serve food and as we eat I am mesmerized by his words.
"I've never imagined it to be other than fiction."
He snickers. "There are a lot of things that people write off as fiction." There is a wry smile on his face. "What if they heard about you and me?"
My eyebrows fly high up in surprise. "What?"
"Haven't you asked yourself what I am... or what you are?"
